Arlen Ness Million Dollar Ride

It will happen in Spearfish during the Sturgis Bike Rally. Arlen Ness and about 20 well known builders will gather to raise money for the Shriner’s Transportation Division, in Rapid City. Arlen Ness, in partnership with Maverick Publishing and Black Hills Choppers, will hold the "Million Dollar Ride" on Tuesday, Aug. 7. Black Hills Choppers owner and Maverick Publishing president Dave Withrow announced that the custom bike builders will unveil brand-new creations at the event. The ride will leave Black Hills Choppers at noon with registration starting at 9 a.m. At $20 a rider, Withrow said the group’s goal is to raise between $15,000 to $20,000 for the local Shriners. The Shriner’s Transportation Division provides free transportation and motel accommodations for parents who must take their children to the Shriner’s Hospital in Minneapolis, where children are treated for a variety of health conditions

Million Dollar? Huh? Is this a poke in the ribs for the organizers of the million man march or am I missing something?

Shaun. I think you got it right. Great sense of humor in this blog.

I heard this was because a bunch of builders built incredible rides for a bike show that had a Million Dollar purse, winner take all. The show got cancelled so the builders all got together and decided to do there own thing. And now it is actually also going to be a charity run for the Shriners. I will be in Sturgis and I will make this run.

I don’t like that thing Arlen Ness is sitting on!!!! It looks like something George Jetson would ride. I am for raising all the money possible for the Shriner’s. Somebody needs to let Arlen know that Harley Davidson makes a special Shriner’s bike!!!!!!! I think Arlen can easily afford one!!!

That “thing” Arlen is sitting on is a jet powered bike. It SHOULD look like something from the Jetsons! 🙂
(truth be told though, it is ugly…)

Actually, it looks like one of those old Mad magazine Spy vs Spy characters………:-)

    A Jet motor…?!!!

To me, it’s a lot cooler than the predictable stuff OCC puts out. But that’s just my humble opinion.

I think it’s great that some of the 15 builders who actually built motorcycles for the Heritage’s million dollar bike build-off have finally gotten somewhere to show them off to the industry. I think it’s a great cause and something people need to do out in Sturgis. Some of those builders are pretty neat to hang with, and yes there are some farout motorcycles out there. George Jetson bikes are really around the corner. (We can’t all ride pans, shovels and evo’s forever!) Easy Rider and Biker Magazine would like to keep all of us there with them old school things. But kind of like westinghouse in the early 1900’s, they knew we needed refrigerators instead of ice boxes. Damn, we got cell phones and microwaves too. Arlen has always been ahead of his time. Hope the rest of those builders built what it is that I know they are capable of, it will make for one hell of show……Big Dummy Dave
