Harley-Davidson Celebrates Women Riders In Milwaukee May 22-23rd

In terms of number of participants, this May weekend event in Milwaukee will probably be the largest women riders rally in the world. A lot of group rides, demo rides, artist exhibitions, fashion shows, live band performances are planned, but the most interesting activities may be those specifically aimed at women not yet riders.

For example the opportunity to straddle a running stationary motorcycle, shift a couple of gears, and get a small feel of what it is to handle a bike on the road. All activities are exclusively for women, but at downtown partying time this rule will not apply. Single guys may love this special weekend organized by the Milwaukee factory and will benefit when part of these women will hit the road on their own motorcycles. More info at Harley Women Riders.

Could the MOCO get any more desperate? The abandoned their core of male buyers by building fuel vaccinating, coal plant temperature operating, electronic nightmares, after forgetting “classic” never goes out of style. Now the coup de grâce is going from potato to tomato . . .

And trying to attract 51% of the worlds population to buy or ride your products is seen as desperate in what way? Seems a pretty sensible business practice to me. The Japanese and European bike makers have been doing it for years, perhaps why their sales aren’t as bad as HD’s are now.

Yeah, HD are traitors? because they recognize women as people? give me a break. Besides, there is nothing in the HD lineup specifically aimed at women. Not one single bike, nor has there ever been. They are all designed by men and for men with HD hoping that the odd one will appeal to a woman too because it happens to have a low seat height.

Perhaps that is why HD are struggling to attract women riders, or could it be some men who think women riders are to be objectified and treated as lesser. Any woman who appears on this blog receives comments about her looks, I can’t remember a guys pic getting even a single comment.

Woman are getting into riding more and more, One of the fastest growing segments I believe, But the rice rocket and jap cruiser dealers and club culture is a darned sight more accepting and geared toward women than the current Big Twin culture.

It’s all about the ride. I for one welcome all women bikers and motorcycle babes… Nothing about being desperate for HD. You go Ladies.
