One more wheel design in the line up. Roland Sands is launching the Turbo forged wheel mixing both modern and hot rod style in the same donut. Lightening pockets are more than just an eye-catching detail, they are also a way to remove mass from the rim, therefore increasing performance. Offered in both chrome and PM trademarked Contrast Cut finish, matching components (discs, pulleys and sprockets) are also available in a variety of sizes to fit most any Harley-Davidson and custom applications. This billet wheel was created by the VP of Design, Roland Sands. Roland is now working for PM? When did that happen?
Roland Sands is the son of Perry Sands, founder and President of Performance Machine, now retired after selling part of the company to the MAG group. Roland is the nephew of Ted Sands, actual marketing Director of PM. Roland Sands Design has always been part of PM, and located at same address. Roland Sands build bikes using PM parts and designing some new ones for them and under the name RSD. Lucky Roland Sands builds bikes without having to find clients. These bikes are the display and advertising budget of PM and his. The bikes travel the show tour on the PM display where they are offered for sale.
So, Roland Sands has merit as a designer, but no commercial merit since he is guaranteed to build bikes almost as much as he wants?.
All custom builders do the same. If they have the money, no client or don’t want one to be free on a project, they build bikes just for their own publicity. Selling custom parts & reputation. Then they try to sell these bikes. Roland Sands has more money and freedom than all other custom builders to do what he wants. That’s it.
I am a loyal supporter of PM but these wheels are my least favorite PM/RSD design yet.
The sick wheel design, always loved stuff coming out of PM and RSD.
Good to more about Roland and his dad.
Regardless of how much money Roland Sands has to play with it is great to see he has some great creativity regarding designing some really cool bike stuff, it is a credit to him.
Im sure we would all like to have a family business where you could experiment with different things with no cost to yourself. What a joy that would be.
PM & RSD stuff rock 🙂
