Rubber Burning All Over Sturgis Bike Week

Motorcycle burnouts are almost as old as motorcycles.  Done free standing or in continuous loop circles, they are always loud and crowd pleasing events. And this year being the 70th Anniversary of the Black Hills Rally, a lot of the celebration is done with a lot of burned tires and smoke filling the air…Some do it for a living, for example Nick Lee And His World Burnout Tour, others only during burnout competitions organized by different brands during big rallies. and many as individual entertainment for themselves and a couple of friends. Not doing it but enjoying melted rubber until the rear tire blows? First stop by at the Monkey Rock where motorcycle thrill show entertainer and undisputed Burnout King Nick Lee will every day and almost all day long! be smoking up the place and shredding tires. See also his 2 million dollars collection of equipment which includes a 1000 hp Indy style barstool, drag bikes, twin Harley-Davidson burnout bikes and custom choppers, etc.
Another place is the “Baker Smoke-Down Show-Down” on Monday August 9th at the Broken Spoke County Line. Baker Drivetrain is the original Burnout Drag Competition running now for its 3rd year. Witness the chaos as 12  of your favorite builders go head to head in a drag style burnout competition. The pandemonium will continue on Friday August 13th when 8 Baker fans will compete against a special guest with a chance to win prizes. Broken Spoke Chief entertainment Officer Jay Allen said no entry fee and no cover….
Also at the Broken Spoke County Line, do you want to see 500 motorcycles burning out at the same time, a world record? On Thursday, August 12th at 7:30pm, during an event sponsored by S&S Cycle, 500 lucky individuals will line up their motorcycles to become part of history and create a one-off burnout that could probably be seen from the far reaches of space. Of course, safety is the number one priority and The Broken Spoke will bring in concrete jersey barriers for contestants to pull up to. Each and every rider will receive a number and a corresponding certificate for their participation in this one of a kind experience. They will also receive a raffle ticket for their chance to take home a shiny brand new S&S motor. This is the only way to get your shot at the motorcycle history books and a killer prize from America’s premier horsepower provider, so don’t miss out! Be at the Broken Spoke Campground on Thursday, August 12th between Noon and 3:00 p.m. to sign up.
And guess what? Even the Hamsters started last year doing their own unofficial burnout, just between themselves. And no, I will not give you the address of this one. Just follow the smoke west of Sturgis…(2 top pictures courtesy Eric Lee)
