Dave Cook New Custom Norton

Have you thought about the pressure under which is a custom motorcycle builder who just won in 2009 the title of AMD World Champion Of Bike Building, then get an order from a client to build a new daily ride with a very reasonable budget, a custom to compete the following year in the same Championship Of bike Building? In Sturgis, impossible not to recognize Dave’s new creation. A quality, because beyond skills, a strong personality style is what clients are deciding when choosing their new custom builder.

For this new project, Dave Cook and his client Ron Bautista agreed to use a 1975 Norton Commando 850 cc has the donor for engine and transmission, both kept stock after some rebuilding. All other components are one-off, in house fabricated, in the “Cook’s “As Faithful To The Past As Possible” pure style, but keeping in mind that the bike had to remain practical for daily commute. I particularly like the engine architecture when fitted with these plated Mikuni carburetors and the fact that it is rolling on a pair of 21″ spoke wheels equipped with perimeter discs. All other details to be discovered just by looking at the pictures. This Norton finished 8th in the extremely competitive and wild Freestyle Class of the 2010 World Championship. An exceptional achievement for an every day custom Norton 850 cc. Cook Customs. (photography H. Roesler, F. Sander)

I dunno about this one. I want to like it but there is just too much going on esthetically for me. It seems busy just for busy’s sake.

I always look forward to going to the Chicago bike show and being able to look over Dave’s work close up. He has a real eye for just nailing the look of his bikes. Took lots of pics of the Norton bike as well as his award winning bike from last year as well as his other creations. Lots of inspiration for a fledgling builder. Thanks Dave.
