A total of 800 Lebanese Harley-Davidson owners convinced the company to open a full service dealership in Beirut, Lebanon. As a matter of fact, Harley opened a 1st showroom 70 years ago with lots of up and downs due to political conflicts and war. Marwan Tarraf, the new dealership owner made a 2.5 million investment, and is now able to offer the same services as any other dealerships and will also organize events and tours in a country renowned for its dramatic scenery and wonderful climate. The Harley-Davidson Beirut Lebanon Showroom is located in Kantari, Michel Chiha Street.

Wow, how times can change… I would have expected to see a Harley dealership on Mars bfore seeing one in Beruit.
I use to travel to Lebanon on monkey-business.
Lebanon is more like Hawaii/Las Vegas than European. Mangoes, papayas, pineapples, star-fruit, the sweetest honey-dew melons. Hashish smoke drifts from Taxicabs. Laid-back place for the most part.
The country is known for it’s cedar trees, but I didn’t see any. Lebanon sits at the end of the Med., so west swells in the Atlantic move across the sea and produce ride-able waves in front of the King George V hotel across the street from the beach. Excellent beaches. No heavy Muslim prayer-fests loudspeakers to scare you 4 times a day.
The roads are asphalt in excellent condition. There are ranges of mountains inland from the coast to ride around in. No terrorist threat.
I was given a map from an Australian traveler that directed me to area of Balbeek (Bal-Beck), found on your left, as you travel eastward to Damascus. My friend said, “Once you go over a set of railroad tracks, start looking for the first left-hand dirt road. They’ll be several large adobes with tin roofs in the distance. Park your car and wait, someone will come out from the buildings to meet you.
Sure enough, here comes an old Mercedes SEL packed with jallaba (robed) gentlemen carrying Colt 45. Cal. pistols. Nice people – Welcomed me to follow them to one of the adobes. Inside it was vacant except for a huge floor carpet, another couple of guys drinking mint tea and (4) bright-new square 5 litre cans, with 6” wide pop-lids, filled with golden hash pollen. My host said, “Stick your hand into the pollen and squeeze”. Doing so turned a handfull of pollen into Red-Leb hashish right in front of my eyes.
End of story. Would really like to go back and M/C tour with my friends.

The new Harley Davidson dealership in Beirut Lebanon is under protest.
Several picketers outside the new business claims this will cause financial hardship to their own dealerships, resale values will plummet in the used Camel business.

I just received an H-D®, H2, 6V battery for my Panhead from V-Twin®

Bets are, the Lebanese are riding India made Harleys®.
Receiving this H-D® battery has proven to me that H-D® is like a “huge daddy long-legs spider” over the world. Just like the clothing industry spider. You will find exacting quality-made items where raw materials and deep labor markets exist. (Clothing industry being more transient).
Everybody in the world benefits. I’m sticking with Harley-Davidson® and riding in their slipstream. 🙂
Sam, they don’t eat pig ? LOL Who said Lebanon was a Muslim country ? There president is as Christian as it gets. Beirut is one of the most gorgeous cities in the world – so don’t let the movies sterotype portray it other wise.
You will be shocked at what this town has to offer from nightlife (rated number one club of the year for 2009 – aka SkyBar) Gourmet super markets and there own vineyards such as Cahteux Ksara and Kefraya.
Lebanon is a country of as much as 19 backgrounds and religions. An assortment of christians,muslims,druze and even jews. It isn’t a hardliner country per se on the contrary.
So why Mars before Beirut ? I don’t get it 🙂
