After scaring me (and all of us) by telling me last October that he was too busy, too tired to continue organizing the event, Willie reconsidered and after receiving some sponsorship from Iron Horse Magazine, he will welcome again his friends of the industry at the 2011 Daytona edition of his Chopper Time Show this Thursday March 10th, from 11 am to 4 pm.
A bike show? I always qualified the event as a Happening, a kind of Biker Art Performance where there is no boundary between the artists (the builders showing their bikes) and the audience (bikers) and all the usual suspects of the motorcycle industry (press, opinion leaders). Like in all Happenings, key elements are planned (show starts at 11 am, $2 beer, girls, bands, trophy awards at 4 pm), but with a lot of interactions between the audience and the art work (the custom bikes), making spectators , in a sense, part of the art of motorcycling. Yes, the show is as much the public as are the custom bikes and it’s the reason why people will continue to visit the Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Bike Show both during Daytona Bike Week and Biketoberfest. For the newbies, address is 825 South Vonge Street (US1) in Ormond Beach. (pictures copyright Cyril Huze)
