Background. Over the winter, Wink Eller & his beautiful wife Dee built a new Land Speed Racing bike. While dialing the bike at the SCTA’s El Mirage May 14-15 event Wink ran 173 mph. While returning to the pits after this run, Wink was in a 15MPH accident & badly injured his left leg. Wink & Dee went to Bonneville Speed Week to race & to be the Broken Spoke Saloon Jay Allen’s crew chief. Wink was unable to shift his own bike because his leg injury, but he tried. Wink & Jay switched bikes & Wink was able to shift Jays bike and run 192 mph+ but was unable to back it up because of wind. Jay set 2 records at Bonneville Speed Week on his own bike. Wink & Jay then went to the BUB Speed Trials where Jay set 3 records. Wink reconfigured his bike & rode it to a 169.557MPH record. During a wind storm, Wink jumped to grab a blowing awning & cut his leg on his motorcycles stand. With a 3” gash in his already badly injured left leg, Wink sewed it up with a needle & pink thread browed from a fellow racer wife. Pink is his wife Dee’s favorite color so he thought she would be happy with pink thread. Wink took the thread, needle, pliers, & a pocket knife, went into Jay’s motor coach & stitched up the gash in his leg. Here is the video. Warning: some may find diificult to watch it.

Ouch!
America 2011. No health insurance! Is USA the new 3rd world?
Soon Mr Eller is going to be more famous for his surgery skills than for his land speed records.
There is no medical support/assistance in Bonneville?
Very painful to watch. This guy has big balls.
I meet Wink a few years back he was a friend of mines Gene Koch and Wink told us a store of the first time on the salt flats he said he sun burned his balls with the sun coming out off the sand.
Wink is wild and a bit crazy so I could see him doing his own body repairs.
A very nice guy.
One tough man. Wink, you got it all. Love and respect…….Larry R.
Crazy Wink.
Must have skin like leather, can’t believe what it took to push that needle through!!!!
Wink you are a mad man!
WINK YOU ROCK !!! JUST LIKE ANY OLD BIKER ,FIX IT AND TRY IT AGAIN …
Ouch! Atleast we know hes a true man!
Now thats HOW you do it !!!
That’s awesome! I want to hear the audio! Wink is the real deal!
I put about five stitches in my palm a couple years ago. I ran the needle and my wife tied the knots, I know had a couple choice words.
Oh and the funny thing, I used pink thread too.
See you on the salt again soon Wink!
Dedication must be admired.
Hope you set another world record, Wink!
Boss Hawg

your the man
ho! maaaaan!!!

Way to go Wink……hope it all turned out OK.

Proof that our current health plan is working just fine ( I am being sarcastic Rush Limbaugh)
I wouldn’t expect anything less from Wink !
bean’re et al,
I have sown myself up a couple of times and I have health insurance ….. sometimes you just can’t waste the time to go to the hospital. Further, If health insurance is so important to Wink (or anyone else for that matter) maybe he should spend less money on a trip to the Salt Flats and take the money saved and buy health insurance with it……just a thought. Nah, that doesn’t work, that would be way too responsible and everyone knows the government owes us all our free heath care….well actually it isn’t free because tax payers like me have to pay for it, but what the hell!
FYI: 4lb test monofilament fishing line works better than thread, easier to sterilize with some alcohol also! I never leave home without it!
Over & Out,
Jeff
Hmmmm, 4lb test……
How about a bottle of Super Glue?
Don’t need any type-a needle.
Just be careful to keep from gluing your fingers to your leg.
It’s harder to ride that way…….. 🙂
