Exclusive. The Cannonball Endurance Run Will Have a 2012 Edition.

I was just informed by organizer Lonnie Isam Jr. that after the huge success of the 2010 Cannonball Endurance Run, the now famous coast to coast ride on vintage motorcycles will have a new edition in 2012, from  September 7 to 21. This time the run through the great wide open will be reserved to motorcycles produced in the twenties. The rapid decline of the motorcycle industry during last century’s late teens was followed by an era of prosperity known as the “Roaring Twenties”. Only three factories remained in the United States as motorcycle design advanced considerably. The competition between the” Big Three” defined motorcycling for over a decade. The 2012 Cannonball Endurance Run aims to revive this rivalry in 2012 but will welcome all makes and models of motorcycles built before 1930. Collectors and restorers from around the world be ready to use again your machines for the purpose they were originally intended for…

On September 7, 2012, 50 riders will start a two-week journey across the United States on motorcycles built before 1930.  This time riders will take the more scenic route to the north, New York to San Francisco. While planning a relatively direct route, organizers also made sure to take in some of the best scenery our country has to offer. A quick look at the new route includes a dozen national parks, and forests, the great lakes, the Mississippi river, the plains, the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, the Rockies, the high desert, Shasta, the Avenue of the Giants, Pacific Coast Highway, and the Golden Gate Bridge to name a few. It will include visits to four nationally recognized motorcycle museums. Another very ambitious ride to say the least, averaging around 300 miles per day… Please use this Contact Page if you would like to join the 2012 Cannonball and put your antique motorcycle from the twenties to the ultimate test.

Lonnie has great endurance and passion for wanting to do this again!
Even though I saw much of the last Cannonball behind a windshield, it was inspiring to see the bikes and the talent of the guys that keep them running.

Great News. Cyril, I loved to follow this event in 2010 your blog. What about some live reports in your website, like you did in Sturgis with a camera.

COOL!! If I can possibly help anyone out when they travel through the Sioux Falls, SD area I’m here for them. I can provide a full shop, fabrication/repair, or replacement [maybe, I don’t got a whole lotta pre-30 parts layin’ around, probably can order ’em though], rest/sleeping facilities [maybe even throw a burger on the barbie for ’em]. I would like to be a part of it somehow. Freebird Custom Motorcycles LLC 704 S. Cleveland Ave. Sioux Falls, SD 57103 605-359-2876 HIGH HO HIPPO!!!
