It surprised many observers, clients and creditors that it was not done sooner, Big Bear Choppers having stopped activity in November 2011. On Friday May 4, 2012 Big Bear Choppers filed for voluntary chapter 7 bankruptcy in California Central Bankruptcy Court (Case number 6:12-bk-21113) . David Philipson of Law Office of David Philipson in Big Bear Lake, California represents BBC. Judge Wayne E. Johnson is in charge of the bankruptcy case.
More than 325 creditors are listed. It includes clients who ordered and paid in part or in full motorcycles they never received, a wide range of well known part vendors of the industry and magazines in which Big Bear Choppers used to advertise. Mona Alsop wife of BBC owner Kevin Alsop is listed among the creditors. Alsomentioned is Simon Scott from PT Ragehard Choppers who is the owner of the company now trying to produce Big Bear motorcycles using Kevin Alsop as a free-lance designer. Full list of BBC’s creditors after the jump.

It’s a lot of creditors. It looks liket BBC, I guess during at least during 2 years, was living not paying its bills and just charging clients for services and bikes they were not able to build. Where is the legal limit between bad management and fraud. Kevin & Mona Alsop are listed as creditors! Are they asking for non-paid wages??? They must be kidding.
Any idea of the total $ amount due to all these creditors?
is it any wonder. these panzy ass bikes they build have no soul and no value. 100% of the people I know who own something like this wish they would have never bought it and/or cant sell it for what the drivetrain would cost.
I met the Alsops one time. In 5 minutes, just by observing their attitude, arrogance, I knew that i would never do business with them. 100% fake. Sorry for all those listed as creditors.
Shady business, sucks for all the individuals that have been screwed by these snake oil salesmen.
Must add to a few millions!
So this is how it works- they appears before the trustee in BK court, the trustee looks at him and his wife and asks “are you Kevin, are you Mona?”, they both nod their heads yes, and all debts are dismissed. End of story. It will take them about 2-5 minutes to dismiss the better part of a decade of fraud.
No doubt they will go back into business doing the same thing again and people will fall for it all over again. Except this time they will have the support of some government program that will decide they are honest citizens in need of tax payer money to rebuild their lost business due to poor economic times. There will be pictures of Obama shaking their hand and appearances on Oprah congratulating them on their “never say die” American attitude, and they will be poster children for the new “Small American Business Revival Plan. ”
What happened to America? I believe we are all to blame.
It’s really not their fault. Why should they do it the hard honest way when the system would just punish them in regulations and taxes. Instead they were smart- they looked at the system and realized it is far easier to take every liberty that is freely given by the system and exploit it. Very shrewd business people.
I am suprised that it took as long as it did to file this maybe they were waiting for all the proverbial shes to drop! We all know for a fact they are trying to do it all over again jost now with a different name and address Ragehard Choppers I would hope that everyone who fell into the trap keep after them, and I hope any future potential suckers I mean customers steer so far clear of this scam. I would just hope that everyone learns from this fleecing.
Keep up the good work Cyril
Just because they filed for bankruptcy doesn’t mean they’ll get the protection.
If I were someone who was lost in this mess, I would hire a lawyer who would fight to protect my interests. It’s a shame to have to go this route, but a necessity if you want to have your rights protected.
My condolences to all involved. May justice prevail and the Alsop’s get what they deserve.
Agree with Will. It seems that BBC was operating since a long time, taking deposits knowing too well that they would not be able to deliver, during this time maybe paying themselves with the money received, not paying their bills, not starting any building. If it’s the case, IT’S FRAUD and any client could sue personally the Alsops, bankruptcy or not.
Ragehard will not sell 1 bike with the Alsops fingerprints on it, even abroad, even in Australia where I know many bikers read Cyril.
Looks like they haven’t paid anybody for a long time… marketing, parts, dept of revenue, financial institutions etc… Whoa, that’s the way of running a company. And all they have to do is tell a judge they don’t have the money and it all goes away. Welcome to America I guess.
For me their bikes have always been Big Bullshit Choppers. Happy that they don’t produce them anymore.
Kevin & Mona. Never underestimate Karma.
Should be more like 1222 creditors, the 325 listed (minus Kevin, Mona and Simon Scott) and adding in the 900 owners that could not get the neck weld recall done on their bikes!
I recall seeing one of their pickup trucks going down the 210 fwy back around 2008. It must of had 75 brand new BDL primary’s in the bed. I’m shocked their not on the list.
Maybe BDL was smart and required cash.
Good comments by all. My only concern is where does one by a sizeable (I’m a tall American like many of us), reliable soft tail chopper these days with bling? It seems the chrome and steal forests are becoming extinct. Now you can get your plastic/composite ride with gas-o-matic cush rear-end protector, stereo sound, GPS and heated grips in any trim paint color you want as long as it is mostly black. Anyone have a good recommendation on a source for a quality basic chopper? Or have I just become a fossil?
Thanks!
don’t see hair club for women on the list , looks like she gets to keep the weave ………
I hope all those left financially fucked get some recompense, sadly, in these situations that is usually only several cents in the dollar. I hope to Christ there is a large truck with ‘Alsop’ written all over the front end, crushed by the wheels of the scumbag karma B-double, what a shame !!! Interested to note an absence of comment from Doc Robinson at this point given the last post on these wankers . . . .
In need of chopper call elite metal designs
Simon Scott of Ragehard Choppers is supposed to go to Sturgis to show (with Kevin & Mona Alsop by his side?) his new BBC models. Please, don’t stop by his display, or go to him (to them) to say what you think.
Wow, I mean, not surprized about them going out but, the list, wow.
Funny that you want to douche all over the bikes of others as if you’re some kind of hardcore… right after you ask where you can BUY yourself some “cool.”
Now quit screwing around and get cover sheets on the TPS reports.
What is it P.T.Barnum said about a sucker being born every minute? Hopefully Karma is a self serving vindictive evil bitch who takes no prisoners. Kind of like my ex……..
In Need- there are still a few of us building bikes, in many different styles. I personally ride one of my own baggers but I think most builders are still offering Chopper and Bobber style bikes.
It’s great to see that both Kevin and Mona were named as creditors…must have been the money they pulled out of their pockets, bilked from those last few “would be” customers.
Let it be known, they are operating alive and well , getting forward controls, etc. that are being run through the chrome shop we use. Damn shame
Whole US states are among the stiffed individuals on BBC’c list of creditors. How many governmental agencies do you know that are willing to float you a loan while you go on a karmic assfucking spree? I attempted to do business in Mona’s adopted home town of Big Bear, CA, in 2008. Because my venture was motorcycle-related, I thought it would be appropriate to ask BBC for their blessing. The cuntish vibe Kevin’s big-haired bitch gave me and my associates was palpable and reprehensible. We took our business plan and $10,000 in fees and charitable donations to Mountain High Resort in neighboring Wrightwood, CA, and never looked back. I think BBC style bikes and the small-dicked tough guys who own them are a joke. Enough with the macho pterodacty-theme bike styling, for Christ’s sake. instead of pining for the poor souls who got raped by BBC, everyone who comments on Cyril’s blog should initiate a smear campaign on social media against deadbeats Keith and Mona Alsop. Let’s make it impossible for these fuckbags to show their face on US soil. If US bankruptcy courts let them walk, they should be forced to do so, straight back to Australia. None of the great Aussies I’m friends with would likely let these shitbirds commit the same crimes against humanity twice. Or in the words of Metallica, Kill ‘me All!
Well said Brother!!!!
I bought and built an 06 DA kit from BBC. My buddy and I cleaned up the frame and made this bike a one off custom, in my eyes. Its been a great bike and I ride the shit out of it.
That said, I’ve never been happy with the shit these people have done concerning the recall.
Funny, they must have paid custom chrome , tucker rocky, drag specialties and all the big people so they will be able to continue under a different name . I heard they are even doing their annual run. How fkd up is that.?
@ Doug, I hadn’t heard that they were gonna try and do their annual ride agian this year, now that is totally F’d up!
They need to change the name of the run from “Ride the Mountian” over to “Highway to Hell”!!
i met micah mc.clusky back in november last year. beutifull shop ,and beutifull personel. i hope that they didnt owe you much mate. and, i hope that some or many creditors get back at least something. its always a bad situation bankrupcy. my thoughts to all of you over there ! tony.
Bye bye Big Bear Faggots. We are starting to get back to the real riders of motorcycles.
Thank God.
Wow. So many legit companies getting burned by these Alsop dirtbags. And I see on their Facebook page that Mona Alsop chatting away trying to salvage their reputation or something.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Big-Bear-Choppers/242784980558
Pay your bills Alsops.
How’s the BBC i EU???
I see Doc Robinson’s blowing Kevin again in the comments on the article…

We will all be there to say hi to kev,Mona at sturgis we all have been wanting to talk to them face to face. All of us deserve a good answer on wy thay had to hert our biker family if thay were in so much trouble why did they not ask for help.but no they would rather steal from us the us citicen
I hope that people who have been screwed by BBC will at least put a call into or send a claim and a letter to the trustee in the bankruptcy filing by BBC and encourage them to investigate kevin and mona for fraud. How does it work that an “alleged” creditor, Simon Scott could buy assets including the name, the trademarks, the intellectual property, equipment, etc and kevin and mona are continuing on with their business as usual, manufacturing big bear chopper models, planning their ride the mountain event, keeping their BBC website and facebook? WTF?
Kevin Alsop is a lying, cheating crook in my opinion.I sold two of my bikes to finance my dream bike (Bear Bones) after visiting B.B.C. in late October. On Nov. 14th I wired $10,000 of my hard earned $ for a deposit on my build, A week later the E- Mails, phone calls ended, My money gone now with Kevin hiding behind bankrupcy.I never recieved a phone call from Kevin as he stated in this article.Justice will be served one way or another,Watch yor back Kevin, As you know, I am not the only one you screwed. For anyone out there wanting to do business with, RAGE HARD DON’T !!!!!!
There’s a glimmer of chance Kevin may weasel out of this thing which is ridiculous to think about. Because RageHard bought the rights 6 months before a BK (even though everybody knew it was coming 9 months ago), he can legally buy those assets AND bring on Bonnie & Clyde as “consultants” with no repercussion to either side.
From a financial liability standpoint, the screwed may remain screwed, but from the fraud standpoint…don’t think the Alsops will be as lucky.
Just a side note after reading Doug’s comment up there.
If they did in fact pay anybody in the way of vendors before filing their BK, there is a statute of limitations in which other people may sue the vendors who actually got paid for their goods. It’s a “preferrential payment” case wherein the Alsops picked who they’d pay to continue to use their services, whilst others got screwed.
How do I know this you ask….good ol’ CCI’s BK allowed the same suit against me by their “group” because I actually got paid for my $50K of parts they took, sold, never returned, and in just 2 short years, approximately 3 hours before their statute of limitations was up, they filed suit against me for preferrential payment…legal extortion basically.
May as well use it to your advantage if it helps. Good luck to all the screwed…I hope your good karma is seeing their bad karma come full circle.
Really now….
Some backwoods bucks need to break it off in both their asses. Fuck dropping the bar of soap.
Boss Hawg
This one will make you sick…
You’ll need to be on Facebook to see it
http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10150983057965559&set=a.10150983057795559.455552.242784980558&type=1&theater
Supreme Team…
What can I say.
There just has to be fraud somewhere lying within.
Boss Hawg
Cannot tell you how much it bothers me what they’ve done. We went through similar crap with the previous owner here (funny that he used to kiss Kevin’s ass at one point). Jeff looooooooved the guy…just ask him! LOL.
We’re still licking our wounds, so I can certainly feel for these guys who’ve lost, especially because they have absolutely nothing to show for it, whilst those two sucker punch them yet again and set up shop with Rage Hard. There is DEFINITELY fraud going on there…especially with the BK. These guys just need to step it up and jump into the BK hearings so that they are heard and stand a chance of recuperating something.
I cannot possibly fathom that big rig being an assett purchased in the Rage Hard deal, and if it were, let’s just say at $100K, that money goes to the fund….not into the Alsop’s pockets. No question this is a “continuation company” and the BK courts should see that…then Rage Hard would be responsible for the BBC stuff as well….pretty good chance it will come full circle.
Oh well…I’m off to provide great customer service, return phone calls, and NOT steal from customers.
Well Mona posted on FB that they got their BBC tractor trailer back and swung by the new manufacturing plant before they take it for the new wrap. WTF?
”Alsop said. “Nobody’s in business except for us.”
Guess this implies Vince (Nobody) Doll @ Redneck Engineering and Jeff Nicklus @ Desperado Motorcycles along with a host of others have closed their doors. What some self-proclaimed BS.
Happy Fathers Day!
Boss Hawg
Interesting story about the bankruptcy. However with all these creditors, how is it that the BBC Facebook page was just updated just this last Saturday?
Check it out for yourself.
6-28-2012
I just went ot Big Bear Choppers website to see if it was still up and running and I noticed that it has recently been updated with scrolling photos of each bike which it never did previously – Why would they update and modify their website if they were closed up and no longer offering bikes to the public – - They are now advertising sales on their appearal – If you sent money would you get your new BBC shirt in the mail – I think not!!!
I have a 2003 Big Bear Chopper. It’s in one of their Customer Builds Galleries.Their is maybe 25 bikes and you scroll threw and mine’s #23 or 24.The color is Blk Cherry and has the long forks.I had a couple of problem’s with it at first 1,500$ worth and it was mechanics stupidity.Other than that I love the bike.I will have it till the day I die.I went so far as to name it Lol (peggacis).I hate what they have done to the name of the company. They didn’t stop to think that all the people who own a Big Bear bike will also feel the effect from their theft. When people gather around my bike after I park it at the beach. When they ask what kind it is and I tell them it’s a Big Bear Chopper.I can hear them now saying (Arent they the one’s who took those ordere’s for bike’s and never delivere’d?)
Sounds like things haven’t changed much from BBC to Ragehard.
Ragehard gave former BBC equipment to a partner, went into a 50/50 agreement and then tried to repo it.
The lawyer they used for their BK is a crook and great at hiding thing. If you check the BK filing you will see that Kevin and Mona paid thenselves about $100K in back wages right befor the filing. Somehow their lawyer David Philipson ended up with the original building that BBC started in and is now running his office out of it. They had government funds to build the new location and other loans from the City of Big Bear that never got repaid so taxpayes got screwed.
Mona used to go around town like she was Queen tossing around money to the local merchants so they would like here. Kevin and Mona thought they were big fish in a little pond. I feel sorry for all the people the screwed over with the help of their lawyer.
