Never seen a 1 block drag race before.

And why is it I get the distinct feeling the entire thing was staged , with a pre-detemined outcome favoring the Harley rider ?

Harley’s … love em or hate em ….. there is no way on Gods Little Blue Planet ANY Harley chopper of that vintage ( or any other ) is gonna get within ten yards of keeping up with a CBR1000 . And I don’t even like CBR1000’s ( or any ‘ Rice Rocket ‘ for that matter )

    So to coin a phrase from a current TV series ;

When it comes to this Truth or Myth video – Busted 8)

It is the first 60′ that makes Hildo the MAN!

  4. 4 Michael Jun 1st, 2012 at 9:12 am

Zo verdomd Nederlandse! [pun intended :)]

  5. 5 Seven Jun 1st, 2012 at 9:49 am

Surprised by the outcome…. Had the race been longer I think he would have lost.
I love my Harley but not sure this is accurate.

I did love the guy on the chopper though… That’s a biker with some balls!

Way Cool! Granted the CBR rider was not aggressive at all. BUT the torque on that chopper was a bit higher than 70’s. peace

They should switch bikes and try it again.

  8. 8 ROCKSTAR Jun 1st, 2012 at 10:40 am

Dildo is headed to the top of the MotoGP podium… haha

  9. 9 Aloha-Terry Jun 1st, 2012 at 11:00 am

I really don’t know what to say…except this will encourage Harley guys to toally embarrass themselves when in the real world they run into a well polited 1000cc or 1400cc Japanese Bike and then wonder what is WRONG with THEIR bike.
This might be fun to watch in real life….

title says honda but didn’t i hear him say it was a yamaha?

  11. 11 Jeff Nicklus Jun 1st, 2012 at 1:05 pm

Not a chance that was real but it sure as hell was fun to watch!

Have to love kick-start rat bikes, brings back a lot of memories!

Totally believeable. First things you have to learn when drag racing with a sportbike is ignore the starts and don’t take short distance sucker bets. You’re gonna see a big twin’s tail light every time you both launch correctly, but his headlamp will be in your mirror by the time you finish the ¼ mile every time. Best I ever did on my Valkyrie was a 12.30 at 104, and I still saw the Road King’s tail at first. Any race depends on the details-guaranteed my old F-150 can beat the new ‘vette in a ¼mile if I get to pick the course 😉

no matter the conditions of the race or his opponent, that old(er) dude still has good reaction time and he’s got the HD motor tweaked pretty well.

  15. 15 Jeff Nicklus Jun 1st, 2012 at 3:40 pm

Watch when Hildo puts the bike in gear …. looks like the shifter is about to fall off. I love it!

    Over & Out,

    Jeff

Cyril should do a feature on Hildo’s Jap bike burning rat bike on the blog.

  17. 17 bshirk Jun 1st, 2012 at 9:09 pm

Hildo said it was a Yamasuki & I beleive him. HaHa

  18. 18 Rick Lossner Jun 2nd, 2012 at 6:45 am

Holdout has a great hole shot and Ricky just embarrassed every crotch rocket owner. Lol. Entertaining

  19. 19 Magic Butt Jun 2nd, 2012 at 10:25 am

Jap bike rider can’t launch to save his life. Any weekend bracket racer woulda kicked his ass. Also is it just me or does the Harley sound like it’s running on alchohol? No problem with that, video is not great quality anyways. The old guy does know how to ride too but this was all determined by the kid’s lousy technique. Revs weren’t even CLOSE to being where they should have been at the get-go

  20. 20 Aaron Jun 2nd, 2012 at 10:42 am

I agree with the short distance. Consider:
    1. The CBR probably didn’t even make peak torque until close to the end of the race.
    2. The CBRs advantage is that it’ll rev much higher. So if it were a longer race where the HD had to shift a couple times, it would have lost a ton of ground after each shift because the CBR would stay in the lower gear for longer and keep more torque to the rear wheel because of gear reduction.

  21. 21 Knucklehead Jun 2nd, 2012 at 2:01 pm

Was it me , were the fork tubes on the HD welded?

  22. 22 Robert Filla Jun 2nd, 2012 at 7:03 pm

Hole shot by the Harley will win that matchup anytime….

  23. 23 chris Jun 3rd, 2012 at 4:55 am

Its really simple. All harleys make a ton of torque. Torque is what gets you going from a standstill not HP.

Harleys will almost always beat other 4cyl bikes off the line but ONLY up to a certain distance/speed and then the 4cyl will over take and leave the Harley standing unless its a modern highly tuned Harley then it might be a different story.

i’ve owned both types multiple times in the last 20 yrs and those results (over a short distance) don’t surprise me one bit. Everyone saying its staged…. i guarantee you could do this yourself and get roughly similar results.

  24. 24 chris Jun 3rd, 2012 at 4:58 am

Knucklehead…. It did look like the forks were welded .

Didnt they call those ‘widow makers’ back in the day. Fairly certain they’re banned in most countries due their failure rate and ensuing carnage.

  25. 25 Zipper Jun 3rd, 2012 at 7:00 am

No way will a stock Harley stay with any rice burner and if you modify the Harley it may run with them for a while but will blow up in the end. In a parking lot race the Harleys are hard to beat because of huge low end torque. I have fun in the city frequently with kids that can’t put all that power to the ground on their 180 mph bikes. I usually ride my mud covered 883 that will only do a 100 mph if you throw it off a building. ..Z (PS I’m older than Hildo)

  26. 26 aaronxs400 Jun 3rd, 2012 at 9:25 am

Torque? Really? If you took a hayabusa dragbike (and i mean slick and bar dragbike) with stock HP and TQ numbers, and put it up against a harley dragbike that had less HP but more TQ, i guarantee the hayabusa will out 60ft the harley. When both bikes are launching at an RPM that is OUT OF THEIR TQ curve…it doesnt really matter. How do I know this? Ive raced both. in very similiar chassis setups.

  27. 27 Zipper Jun 3rd, 2012 at 6:03 pm

AAxs400, you the man. Obviously you know what you are doing.”But anyway” Hildo is one cool dude. ..Z

  28. 28 Eric Maurer Jun 3rd, 2012 at 8:24 pm

the S&S patch on the chopper dudes race leathers should be a dead give away. The “old” (he’s not that old) dude knows what he’s doing. The sucker bet is such a short race, torque wins out every time in the sixt foot), the sportbike guy was not a pro rider by any means…. total novice with a big ego.

Hildo’s bike was built to look like a pile of horsehit, but I bet that motor gets the fack outta its own way. Total wringer bike.

Love it! And just like “The Devil’s Ride” docudrama…. this too is probably fake.

  32. 32 Branner Jun 5th, 2012 at 2:05 pm

Agree on Hildo’s bike being a ringer bike, anyone else notice the reverse shift pattern when he first pulled away? First was up.

  33. 33 Blackmax Jun 6th, 2012 at 5:52 pm

    Unbeliveable !!!!
    But I am impressed!
