S&S Cycle Stealth Air Cleaner. Let’s Get The Record Straight About Legality In California.

27046In a recent email communication to its clients and media, S&S Cycle stated something in a way that could be taken wrong, and in some cases, it has been. So S&S wants to set the record straight.

“On February 18th of this year, we sent out an email with a title “No Longer Breaking The Law!” The intent of this email was to let everyone know that under Executive Order D-355-11 of the California Air Resources Board (CARB), our S&S Stealth Air Cleaner was now legal to be used on certain highway motorcycles in California. The specific applications being Harley-Davidson® motorcycles equipped with a Delphi® fuel injection system, this includes some 2001 and all 2002 and later EFI big twin models and all 2007 and later Sportster® models.

In the original email we were not saying anyone was necessarily breaking the law, we were trying to say that they could now install the S&S Stealth Air Cleaner without doing so. The fact of the matter is that we go out of our way to inform customers that only the products indicated as emissions compliant in our catalog are legal for use in street applications.

S&S is well known for selling racing products, but we have also been selling emissions compliant proven performance products for the street for many years. Over the years, it has taken a significant investment in the form of time, manpower, and equipment to be able to develop these products, and to have them approved by the various regulating bodies around the world. S&S offers EPA, CARB, and TÜV compliant products ranging from air cleaner kits to complete engines. In addition, our engines have been used by a number of custom manufacturers to build CARB, EPA, and EU (European Union) compliant vehicles.

A poor choice of words on our part? Yes. Everybody makes mistakes, but now, we want to set the record straight.” S&S Cycle.

Well, I like 99.9% of the people got the pun the first time, Understood the ad, and moved on. It’s a sad day when a Stand up company like S&S now feels the pinch of what could be considered political correctness for lack of a better term.

Even an ounce of common sense these days is becoming a rare and hard to find attribute with society.

I am in that 99%, Steve, and I thought it was worth a grin. But, there is a mean-spirited minority always looking for an opportunity to create a problem where really, there is none.

Maybe companies need to quit bending to the laws of Kalifornia. Just don’t sell there. If the people want said items, maybe that will motivate them to get rid of the problem politicians and agencies like the CARB.
I have always said, there is not a single problem with Kalifornia that couldn’t be fixed with a raise in the level of the ocean!!!

Jim, reality is, no one wants to get out of the California market. California probably buys more custom motorcycle parts than the entire Mid-West combined
