The Swiss town of Basel is located where the Swiss, French and German borders meet. The city is a multi-cultural pocket-size metropolis with 40 Museums in a small geographical area. Basel’s residents are crazy about art and maybe there is no better place in western Europe to organize an event blending traditional and motorcycle art. It was the reasoning of 3 guys (Vinz, Mario and Lukas) when they created the inaugural event in 2015. So successful that artists, motorcycle builders and visitors asked for more in 2016 and with next year’s Art & Wheels event already in preparation probably in a much bigger location.
For Americans, just imagine the juxtaposition of 3 different events. A motorcycle related art gallery, a custom motorcycle exhibition and a bike show competition. A kind of “Tropical Tattoo” happening blending with a Michael Lichter’s Art Of The Motorcycle exhibition wrapped with parties for a great weekend of fun and friendship between all artists and visitors.
More than 100 old school type motorcycles were exhibited at Art & Wheels Basel, including those of prominent custom builders like Paul Cox (Paul Cox Industries) and Chris Richardson (L.A. Speed Shop) representing the USA, Uwe Ehinger (Ehinger Kraftrad) for Germany and Andy Niemi (Flying Choppers) for Finland, Mc Sands (Mc Sands Motor Shop) for Switzerland, just to name a few.
