The MilwaukeeEight 10&” and 114” V-Twin Engines are equipping the 2017 Touring line. For sure, they are stronger, offer a crisper throttle response and truer, cleaner sound. Four valves per cylinder, single chain-driven cam, dual spark plugs, counterbalanced and rubber-mounted. Below, 2 videos introductions about the engine itself and its styling.
• More Power – Larger displacement, 4-valve heads and higher compression ratio produce 10% more torque
• Quicker Acceleration – 2-3 bike lengths faster from 0-60 mph; 1-2 bike lengths faster from 60-80 mph in top gear
• Heat Management – Improved rider and passenger comfort, thanks to reduced heat absorption, increased heat rejection and redesigned exhaust system
• Improved Fit – Thanks to a narrow primary and optimized air cleaner shape
• Reduced Vibration – New internal single counter-balancer, provides a smoother, more refined feel at idle
• Richer Exhaust Note – Less mechanical powertrain noise allows more iconic V-Twin rumble due to lighter valves, optimized cover designs and driveline improvements
• Lower Idle Speed – Creates a better sound and less heat
• Improved Charging – 50% more output to meet increased touring accessory needs

they all should be 114″ motors. but then H-D could not charge you a are and a leg for making them 114 and a motor that may keep up with the other American made bikes.
What did they do to solve the push rod angle problem that comes along with single cam, pushrod engines? What did they do to solve the cam chain adjuster problem? Are the pushrods beefier to deal with the extra force necessary to move the extra valve and spring per rocker? How about they actually talk about the motor in detail instead of just the marketing hype.
Chain drive primary!!! What a JOKE. Still way…………………. behind Polaris Technology
Yep….It all looks and sounds good, BUT I will test ride when they come around at a rally. More importantly wait a year to see what problems need correcting.
BOSS HAWG
I wouldn’t be shopping for a Harley if I wanted the cheapest bike available, nor if I was looking for the all the latest technology. Many other brands fufill those wants. I ride a Harley simply because it’s a Harley and has many characteristics that appeal to ME.
J.Speed is Spot On! Many Questions, to Resolve!
BUT,did they improve the drive side bearings and compensator and cam tensioners in primairy and cam drive ?????
@Tom; I think we all know, that S&S, JIMS. well maybe NOT JIMS, they are in Bed with H-D, will find the Chinks in the Armour? I hope it’s NOT, an EVO, with Twin Cam Lipstick? We also need to come up with a Nickname; V8, 8V, Twin Boobs, Twin Bumps, 4 Sparky’s, Sparky 4, 48, Oh, that’s taken, ???
Yamaha did this with the Road Star 15 years ago. Its a great motor, hopefully HD might have one now too.
113 years in business and the oil filter is still on top of the motor???? lol
NOBHEAD?
“Visual Dynanacism?” It LOOKS powerful? Harley, you guys are so out of touch. We want substance over style. I do at any rate. I’ll stick to my Indian, my Triumph, hell, even my Royal Enfield.
Hey Siggy, you get my vote!
A name… New-Volution. Hee hee heee!
Say what you will, but they will sell plenty.
When Triumph first tried 2-valves on a push-rod (a Weslake design) it wasn’t without its problems. Racers reported improvement in mid-range torque but too much flex at higher rpm.

Forehead……………………………………?
I’m gonna enjoy my 2 103 TC bikes for little awhile longer, but 2020 maybe the time to upgrade the bagger to M8. I’m liking what I see and hope it works out well.
If it’s anything close to what Yamaha did with their Stratoliner/Roadliner motor, this should be a winner!!!
When Triumph came out with the TSS 8 valve head with higher compression I rode one.
Bit faster up top but way more gruntier through the midrange, which is where 80% of riding is done.
looking forward to a ride !!
I vote Harley Bubblehead
Wish they would have put out an audio of just the motor running – idling @ 850 rpm plus blips.
Also would like real numbers on hp and tq , not % and bike lengths.
Saw a couple being unloaded this week, the paint was beautiful.
You know I will be taking a test ride. It’s the new motor.
Hang on!
Exciting! Been waiting for a new engine for a while. Kinda figured it’d be soon.
A1-Cycles, I’m w/you about that oil filter. I could careless if the dang thing ran on steam as long as they’d have moved that friggin’ oil filter!
If memory serves me…..I believe Indian had a 8 valve V-Twin motor in 1913 0r 1914. So nothing new here….move along. 🙂
Over & Out,
Jeff
Back in 1999, H-D was telling us, the 2 cam motor was the BEST Thing since , sliced bread? Now, it;s “Back to the Future”, with a New Knucklehead, an 80 year old design, with a couple of extra valves per cylinder?
I subscribe to a dozen M/C mags! Sometime in the last 10 years, I read a Believable story about AMF, as much as we Hate them, they saved HARLEY. They had Deep Pockets, did a lot of R&D, came up with the EVO. They were also working on an Overhead Cam Motor, similar to the Victory. But, when the H-D 13 made the Midnight Deadline, to buy H-D back, there was NO money left, to set up a New production line to produce the Overhead Cam motor. It was much easier to put New Heads on the Shovelhead, PRESTO, New Evo Motor! Thank you, AMF, for my 2 Evo’s!
PS, Is that Overhead Cam Motor in the Museum? Didn’t think so?
4 valve heads where originally owned by Quantum Motor Cycles in 2000 or 2001 great idea but they like other motor companies did not make it very long.
Fathead? Bulgehead? Bumpyhead?
WOW, Harley makin’ everybody shake in their boots and crap their pants, calm down boys it’s just a motorcycle
4 valve heads for Evos were first designed by the Late (Great) Jim Feuling. And they performed great, Bolt on 100 Rwhp.
2 bike lengths ahead of what an AMF Shovel?
80hp and 96 tq is what heard one bike dynoed at with the 107
the 2nd plug is a bugger to get that
the potential on these motors should be unreal
SYF well said
Nice incremental improvement HD 🙂
Overdue and underwhelming.
Lots of Democrats voicing their negative opinions LOL!!!!
James,
There was a Weslake 750 cylinder and 8-vale head kit available for Triumph motors long before the factory offered a version of that product as OEM… Out in the shop i have a copy of the sales literature, but a collapsed book shelf is between me ant it… 🙁
Both version of the product looked identical. Probably why the inherent design problems were never really resolved.

This motorvcan be sold in Europe, unlike most Victory’s……..
Yeah all those are great features but with all that heavy tooling investment the motor still has a cam chain with that cheap shoe adjuster WTF?
A submission for the new nickname: EVO8.
Here is another: Quadhead.
Come to think of it, they both suck.
Never mind.
Would like to know the difference, if any, in useable torque range rpm- I have never attempted to post a 0-60 time and likely never will- a 2 bike length finish in a quarter mile is insignificant to me- just want to know what to expect in everyday riding- is the power band wider? Can I ride at 55 mph in 6th gear?
Don’t care if someone thinks the air cleaner is drag-racing influenced or the engine is “spilling out of the frame”- that seems to be marketing rhetoric used when there is nothing of substance to talk about- hope this engine really is terrific- time will tell. So far, not hearing anything that would make me hurry to buy new technology based only on WFO statistics.
All this hype and excitement from Harley and the new motor doesn’t even come with gear drive?
Thanks but no thanks!!!
Got my 107 and getting ready for a ride. Very happy with it.
I vote bubblehead. It just fits and stuck right away with me.
Let’s get this nickname nailed down here people!
Those were a couple of the most worthless videos ever.
Please tell me HD didn’t make a drag inspired air cleaner cover, sculpt the rocker boxes, make the motor look like an atheletes back, add nearly the same head flow with more moving parts but failed to address the very well known obvious problems that needed fixing!!!! I can tell you what didn’t need any fixing at all…pretty much everything they pointed out in those videos!! The adds appear to have been produced for buyers of Motorclothes more than motorcycles. My IQ is over 60 so i was not sold after watching the videos that pretty much said “we’ve done nothing but change the looks and grabbed a couple CI, enjoy!”
All you Harley haters are something else. I have a 1993 and a 1998 Harley. Both still run great. One has over 100,000 miles with no major engine work ever performed on it. How many other motorcycle brands could make that claim?
Just traded my 2013 Ultra CVO for a 2017 Ultra Limited Low with the Milwaukee 8. Put 700 miles on it this weekend. I’ve been riding for 50 years and this is the best Harley I’ve ever ridden, by far. Engine is great, suspension is excellent (no more dive when braking), lowered stance is amazing. I’m 5’8″ with a 30″ inseam and can now stand flat footed on the bike in low quarter shoes. I was about ready to give up riding at 65. I’ll be riding this bike for many more years. It’s a home run!
