Energica, An Italian Manufacturer Of High-Performance Electric Motorcycles, Ready To Unveil The First “Old-School” Electric Bike. At the January 9 to 12 Las Vegas CES, Energica is set to unveil its new 3rd production model called the “Eva EsseEsse9”, supposedly the first “production old school” electric motorcycle. Energica Motor Company S.p.A. is the first Italian manufacturer of high-performing electric motorcycles. Energica motorcycles are already on sale through authorized importers around United States and Europe. Energica is managed by woman CEO Livia Cevolini whose engineering experience includes time spent in the Ferrari Formula 1 engineering racing pits.
Rotal Enfield December Sales Up 16%. December 2017 international exports and domestic sales in India were 66,968 units, compared to 57,398 motorcycles sold worldwide in December 2016, a 16% increase. In this fiscal year so far (April – December 2017) Royal Enfield has sold 593,450 motorcycles – a 21 % increase on the same period in 2016’s 488,262 units. Domestic sales increased by 21 per cent, from 477,688 to 579,462 units, while exports increased by 32 per cent, from 10,574 in April – December 2016, to 13,988 units in the same period last year. Two new Real Enfield 650cc parallel twins (the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650) are due to go on sale in Europe in April 2018 then in the US.
Taiwan To Phase Out Gas-Powered Motorcycles. Facing great air pollution pressure, Taiwan aims to phase out gas-powered motorcycles by 2035 and gas-powered cars by 2040.. With a population of some 23 million, Taiwan is home to about 14 million motorcycles, the highest density of motorcycles in the world. A recent survey showed that nearly 60 percent of motorcycle users in Taiwan were willing to shift to electric.

I want to see this “old school” electric bike or rather; their version of it. Can an electric bike be old school? Being Italian I must assume they mean old school Euro style; not American style. It seems to me the engine itself is a big part of what makes an old school bike old school. Did I use the phrase “old school” enough in this paragraph? 🙂

Well, HD needs a sport tourer too, or even a water cooled tourer. But the Pan American highway suggests a dual purpose bike. It’ll be interesting HD needs to do something, they’re comfortable to ride but a 800+ lb air cooled V-Twin bagger is begging to overheat no matter how big the engine is.
I wonder where all that electricity to recharge all those motorcycle and car batteries is going to come from in Taiwan.
