Sportster. Not only one of the hottest selling new models from Harley-Davidson, but also one of the most sought-after used bikes, especially by generation X & Y looking for an affordable base to build their dream bike. And often, they would like to turn this very respectable model into an even more classic bike via what I call a “retro upgrade” kicker kit. Possible, thanks to Pat Patterson from Led Sled Customs, offering a complete bolt-on Kit he designed to work with all 1991-2003 5-speed Sportsters.
American made, it features an Andrews main shaft and smooth kicking roller bearings. It takes a couple of hours to install and I guarantee that it will turn your average Sportster into a conversation piece. Watch below the video instructions , order a kit, grab your tool box, install and see your Sportster friends turn green with envy… LED Customs.
Very cool.
I’ve seen it in action and it is awesome, led sled makes great stuff and they are great guys
I like it!
Very cool and practical kit. I’ve been following this for a while now through Chopcult and it seems that it was worth the wait. The kicker has saved my ass on alot of the older bikes I’ve owned over the years and I’d love to get one of these for my ’94 sporty, but I’d like to try one out first to see how it feels before spending the dough.
I grew up with a kicker and got off them about 2000-ish.. Would love to run kickers again but your pipe options get so limited
I have known Pat for years…great guy. Stand up businessman and this kicker works! Glad to see there are still folks out there being innovative!
Why Not? Nice mod for those that want it.
PATS THE SHIT
nice peice of work pat, thats sets you apart… technical for a shop to manufacture, yet bolt on with some knowledge for the garage mechanic.
very cool!
Kick start sportsters were the only option in the early years.
More than once the kicker would fall through leaving what was known as a sportster knee. The big joke in the 60’s “all sportster riders start kickin the rest of us will be out after we here running motorcycles.
Enjoy.
hmm , nice kit but tighten the trapdoor bolts with an air inpact wrench ??!!
PAT & HIS CREW ARE GREAT GUYS. I’VE BEEN DEALING WITH THEM FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR, MOSTLY FENDERS. GREAT STUFF, I WOULD LOVE TO USE ONE OF THESE KICKER KITS & IF A FUTURE BUILD CALLS FOR ONE, SO BE IT. GREAT WORK GUYS…..
Gotta say, looks like a good unit. And always better to have a kicker at least for a back-up or drop the starter for weight savings or cool factor. My old ass just looks for a kicker for a back-up now, … bad back, right knee is f#*ked and just getting older. Glad to see this one and hope it goes over well for the Led Sled Crew. Good product.
Later, and thanks again Cyril.
Neato! peace
Yep, as long as the rachet holds up. I seen a guy actually puke from the pain of “Sportster Knee” when the kicker slipped for about the fourth time. I wuz ridin’ to Sturgis one time on one of my old, rigid bikes, hangin’ at a gas stop out in the middle of knowhere, ‘an this yuppie “biker’ asked me what my kicker pedal was for! YEEZE!!! I shoulda SHOT him! I said “It’s fer startin’ it!” I thought about marketing “a leather “Thumb Chap” to protect these clowns when they fire up their scooters! Yuk-Yuk!!! Wiz
product also sold by japanese or taiwanese manufacturers 🙁
there is a vid onthe tube showing the same product ….but NOT the SAME Shape and Building :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBPDX-3cPF8&feature=player_embedded
watch out closer the shape of the cover ….
( can’t stop thinkin’ …” Who was the first ? …who copyed the other ??? )
anyway : i con’t care coz this is really a GOOD idéa / GOOD product 🙂
once upon the time : so bad the MoCo don’t think about it earlyer ????, coz this is really a simple thing to do for theyr engineers !
I have it on good authority that Pat uses some Baker gears and that there was some guidance from the folks over there too. Screw the Chinese copies. Pat is the real deal made in Ohio!
We had no guidance from Baker and do not use Baker gears. We machine our custom gears in-house.. on our property. Please note.. we have no issue with Baker. We also use Andrews main shafts. We did sell two kits to Japan during our ‘pre-sale’ and as you have it.. a similar product seemed to be introduced within several weeks after shipping.
We do now engrave our logo on every cover that goes out the door to ensure that people are getting our quality and expertise with the product.
We are also 100% confident that we were the first company to invent and manufacture a working and reliable EVO Sportster Kicker Kit for 5-speed Sportsters.
Thank you to everyone for your support. Look forward to many more innovative Sportster parts in the future.
Pat Patterson
I love it, but in looking at it, I can’t use it with a 2 1/2 inch offset sprocket. I imagine I could space out the unit, but then the main shaft wouldn’t be long enough, and the unit would look like crap sticking out like that.
A shame-my girl bike will just have to remain electric start…
Japanese shop Crazy Horse made it in the last year already…

Very good idea – would love to use this on my next Sportster.. as I have always felt that a kicker makes you part of the bike.. start you bugger!! etc (especially on my old Bonnevilles)
However I’m reminded of the kicker only Sportster with magneto that my friend had years ago
If you kept him talking while he started the bike he would forget to retard the ignition and would go flying over the pub wall!! for some strange reason he used to have a limp…
