Metzeler 21″ Front Tire Stage 2 Upgrade For Late Harley-Davidson FL Series Models

Metzeler Motorcycle Tire has added an all-new Stage 2 upgrade option 120/70B21 for newer model Harley-Davidson FL series bikes as replacements for the stock-sized ME880 tires suggested.

These new options – based on the popular Metzeler ME880 tire – fill the fenders of nine Harley-davidson models, among them the Road King, Electra Glide Classic, Ultra Classic, Street and Road Glides.

The stock front fender must be replaced with an aftermarket fender for compatibility. “Metzeler’s heritage includes offering its consumers the best performing – and best looking tire available for their rides,” said Chris Wall, Director of Marketing for Metzeler Tire. “The Stage 2 mod is easy to fit, only requires a few modifications and the improvement in ride and look is phenomenal.”

The new Metzeler Stage 2 upgrade will require modification or replacement of your motorcycle wheels, fenders, wheel spacers, and the purchase of other small products to achieve the look and ride desired.

Remember that physical dimensions of tires are critical. Adequate clearance of fenders, swing arm, etc. must be maintained. Increasing tire size may require an increase in rim width. Rotate the wheel and inspect closely for sufficient clearance prior to road operation. Metzeler demands that a minimum of 1/4 of a inch is the minimum side of tire to fender, fork, or bike clearance be maintained. A minimum of 1/2-inch clearance must be maintained tire diameter to the underside of the fender and or swingarm. Metzeler Motorcycle Tire.

Why do you have to change the front fender??? We have installed 21″ wheels on several baggers none of which required changing the fender..

It’s possible as you wrote to not change anything, but I think the reason Metzeler is mentioning this is to keep the stock clearance…and maybe to protect themselves from lawsuits (expansion of tire, rocks, etc) Just guessing..

Had a small rock roll between the fender and tire…it was not a good experience. The fender ended up looking like a ball nose hammer beat the hell out of it and chipped the paint as it rolled until it had enough clearance to drop out…so i will be taking it back to the harley dealer to get a fender with more clearance for the 21″ wheel that should have been done when they up graded the bike with the oversized wheels. This happend to my brand new 2012 Street Glide..
