S&S Cycle Project Dragon. A 143” Drag Strip Bagger.

The new T143 S&S Cycle engine cradled in a stock bagger frame with the addition of only high performance very special parts. The Dragon is 90 lbs lighter that the Harley stock configuration and is getting ready for the drag strip.

Will the beast be ridden at the drag in Sturgis. Demo ride?

Never too much juice for baggers…’bout time…

  5. 5 Sharkey Feb 16th, 2015 at 2:39 am

Put it in a Dyna chassis, then it can be totally stripped…still packing bags and fairing
    Raising the bar for sure

Just like the namesake – approach all of this carefully or you will burn more than just your fingers.

Firstly – when ‘pinks’ are up for grabs then it becomes like fishing, suddenly the hands (noting the size) mover further and further apart, each time the same story gets told.

I hear quite a bit more than the monster motor, eg work done to the frame, super-light (very expensive and possibly too fragile for a fully loaded bagger) wheels, special exhaust, revised drive (front to back), mega brakes, etc.

I could be wrong – but is the motor on the Dragon now a solid mount (I would be keen to ask)?

All said, or not, how much of this will Mr/Ms Average do?

Sure, it is a dedicated strip machine, the bags are just there for promo purposes for a specific target market. Else having all that stuff hanging from the side, on a strip, is like a stripper stripping down to a polyotter…

So the 143 is intended to sledgehammer up gargantuan baggers – eg a fully laden Electra Glide carrying two biological bits of Americana of equal magnitude – the entire equation around 1500 pounds.

That is a serious number, under some serious 143ci torque, inducing some serious loads, in some seriously awkward ways (torsional and direct). You WILL need work done to the frame (despite the ’09 frame already being a vast improvement) or you are looking for trouble. Rather decline the invite if you are a passenger of a half-backed ram-the-motor-in-in-the-shed-my-dear effort…

Said it before: S&S must offer a complete package – new frame or work done to the frame, complete new drive (front to back), new brakes and new suspension (front and back) – all in one plastic bag, plus a voucher for an authorized workshop, to tie it all up. Then you have a F16 and not a V8 in a lawnmower.

The Road-Toad (ie Road Glide) is the model to give the BRUTAL-BAGGER treatment. The frame mounted fairing makes it a contended for 150mph plus cruising (my kind of thrill).

I am not averse to any of the above – I like it. Do this kind of work, any day, before spending all your children’s college money on a freaking cartoon character with a 45″ front wheel (or whatever the latest record is).

As for as wedging the 143 into a Dyna – HELL YES! BUT..,

    – Not the current frame. The 143 will pull it like a contortionist.

    – Make a revised frame for the Dyna based on the post ’09 frame. That is essentially how the FXR came about (a lineage to a touring frame).

    – Or put the 143 in a decent aftermarket FXR frame. But please make it an attractive- and aesthetically cohesive effort – not something that just looks shed-build (like 99% of the faux FXR’s out there).

Apologies for hogging (pun intended) the comments section with my verbose post – just a topic I am particularly passionate about.

Thanks for the dissertation Sig. For me, it can be summed up as simply saying,”Cleanup, aisle 5″.

Good points Sigfreed. It was only 3-5 years ago that more than one sportbike OEM surpassed the 160 hp threshold. Those bikes have evolved over decades to handle that kind of power in the chassis, suspension, & brakes, so it would be wise to do an end-to-end look at your Bagger if deciding to go with the 143 motor.

    A exercise in product advertising

    Didn’t the Japanese “green-guys” just put out a 200HP production bike…?
Those sorta numbers in a useable package would probably indicate that Raw HP Game is a loose – loose proposition that’ll only end up head-on into some government contrived regulatory wall.

Besides, how big could the market for such things be?
Gotta agree with Rodent on this one….. the business case here must be in the Advertising.

Happy to say I’ve already got a client wanting to use this powerplant in one of his baggers *Rubbing hands together* THIS should be interesting 🙂

have one in a 2013 FLHX, we still have the rev limiter at 4, and the tire pumped up to 40 psi,
I still can not get the smile off my face. this is a race motor, I know that, and I am prepaired to replace all the stuff this thing breaks, and will enjoy every second. I already have the new Baker compensator, and trap door on its way, and in talks with RB racing about their chain conversion.
Boyz this is not for the average Joe wanting to tour north America, and I believe S&S have stated this time and again.
You over thinkers can suck it. These motors are the shizit, S&S have out done them selves.

    Whoo-Wee !!!
    Saw it at the Expo
Was blown away before I saw it,
still blown away after I saw it !!!!
Lord, what I wouldn’t give to twist the throttle on this thing just once !!!!
    Premiere performance, just say S & S !!!!

    @ nicker

Actually, that would be a new 300HP production bike that the green guys just released.

Well my Chris Rivas 107 with NOS put outs more HP and TQ than this 143. My set up is on the rich side so plenty safe. His 124 put out 160`s HP and 160`s TQ at the wheel on pump gas. This 143 is not as bad as you think it is. Have Chris build you a motor, his 143 with a turbo is over 270 HP at the wheel on a Dyna.
