The SSR Harley Breakout. When A 2014 Harley CVO Is Not Exclusive Enough For You. .

SSR1SSR3SSR4SSR2The 2014 Harley-Davidson® CVO™ Breakout® motorcycle is a beautiful Softail® model that combines the power of the Twin Cam 110B™ engine with a high level of custom chrome-plated detailing and dazzling finish rarely offered on a production motorcycle. It is currently offered in a choice of 3 exclusive paint schemes for the price of $26,900. But guess what? Some for who money is not an issue complain to their Harley dealer that too many (?) can be seen in big rallies, that a Harley CVO (Custom Vehicle Operation) is still not as exclusive as they would like.

It doesn’t mean that high-end buyers are all rushing to the best independent pro-custom builders to order their own built-from-the-ground-up custom bike. They don’t want a show bike, they don’t care about their bike featured in magazines  or winning giant trophies in bike show competitions. They just want a genuine Harley-Davidson, its brand image, the reliability and of course the H-D warranty, but in a very individualized package to show the street who they are…

SSR5SSR6When Gilles Stiwinski, the young owner of official French Harley dealer “Milwaukee Twin” met a client asking him if he would customize a brand new CVO model, he wondered. Is there a niche market fulfilling this type of requests from clients who always have the money to satisfy all their wants? He shared his thoughts with long time friend and well-known pro-builder Betrand Dubet from Odyseey Motorcycles. Both concluded that the solution was not to try to restyle a brand new Harley CVO taken from the show floor by adding more chrome, badges and redoing already beautiful factory produced custom paint jobs. Result could be extremely tacky, the exact opposite of what true upscale clients wish, ultimate class without being too flashy. It’s the way the custom Harley SSR (for Super Sport Roadster) Harley Breakout was born, one of only ten that will ever being offered to a very exclusive clientele. Bonneville Salts Are Now A Lake. Speed Week Canceled.

bonneville0bonneville00bonneville1bonneville1bisHeavy rain on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday turned the Bonneville Salts into a lake. After postponing the tech inspection of the 530+ motorcycles transported from all over the world to attempt land speed records, the SCTA  was obliged to cancel the 2014 event. The right decision, but very sad news for all racers who worked so hard on their machines to participate to the 2014 Bonneville edition marking the 100th anniversary of racing on the Salt Flats. Hot Rods and cars will probably be in line at an extended “World Finals” in October, while motorcycles will have a chance to be back on the Salts at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials August 23rd to 28th. With nothing else to do many teams teams did photo shoots at the “beach” on the access road to the racing tracks. Motographer Horst Roesler is on location and did a few shots for me. The stunning beauty of Bonneville, even under water.

Harley-Davidson 10-Spoke Impeller Wheel Design For 2009-Later Harley-Davidson Touring Motorcycles

Impeller-Custom-WheelA polished and chromed version of the 10-spoke Harley-Davidson Original Equipment cast aluminum wheel, these custom Impeller wheels (P/N 43300338 17-inch Front, P/N 40900348 16-inch Rear; $649.95 each) maintain factory fit and stance Harley-Davidson Touring models.

Harley says that these wheels have undergone hundreds of hours of real-world testing to meet the highest standards of performance and durability. Installation requires the separate purchase of a model-specific Wheel Installation Kit, sprocket hardware and brake rotor-specific hardware. It may also require separate purchase of model-specific tires to fit the new wheels. (These wheels do not fit Trike and 2012-later CVO™ models)

Ness Big Shot 2 Fuel Tuner

bigshotInstalling a new exhaust or upgrading your bike air cleaner always requires a re-adjustment of your fuel system.

It used to be that you had to play with screws and jets to find the optimal fuel power curve.

Several systems are now available to let you add or subtract fuel from your bike fuel injection system. Arlen Ness proposes a a plug and play tuner that doesn’t require a computer or a dyno run and working and at the touch of a button. The system reads and gives you what are your bike exact fuel needs. Joke Of The Week

cyril-huze-joke44It was the biker’s first time visiting Dr Putz for a colonoscopy. He went into his office for his first rectal exam. His new blond nurse, Evelyn, took him to an examining room. She told him to get undressed and have a seat until the doctor could see him . She said that he would only be a few minutes. After putting on the gown that she gave him , he sat down.

While waiting he observed there were three items on a stand next to the exam table: A tube of K-Y jelly, A rubber glove and a beer. When Dr. Putz finally came in he said,  “Look Doc”, I’m a little confused This is my first exam. I know what the    K-Y  Jelly is for, And I know what the glove is for. But can you tell me what the   BEER  is for?”

At that, Doctor Putz became noticeably outraged and stormed over to the door. He flung the door open and yelled to his new blonde nurse, “Damn it, Evelyn  !!! I said a  BUTT LIGHT!”

Antique Motorcycles Set To Race At the 74th Sturgis Rally On Tuesday August 5, 2014

20th-Century-Racing-Board-Track-ClassPappy Hoel Half Mile Classic’s Harley vs. Indian vintage motorcycle races will be held at the Sturgis Fairgrounds during the 2014 rally. These antique race bikes may look small and similar to the bicycles you rode as a kid, but they can reach speeds in excess of 70 mph on a half mile track without brakes, clutches or transmissions. All it takes is a simple push to start their engines and they are off. Admission to the AMA sanctioned race is only $15!

Watching these primitive machines really brings back the bygone mechanical era, where Harley and Indian would duke it out every race at the old wooden tracks. Just seeing them run today on a track is a spectacle in itself. Most bikes like these are held in museums, only to be viewed from a distance. After the races, fans are invited to come down to meet the 20th Century Racing antique motorcycle racers for autographed posters and see their antiquated board track racing motorcycles up close. Indian Motorcycle Just Introduced The 2015 Indian Scout

ScoutblackIn Sturgis at 9 pm local time this Saturday August 2nd, after a few words of introduction by Polaris CEO Scott Wine and Vice Presidentt Of Motorcycles Steve Menneto, the 2015 Indian Scout was unveiled to a select gathering of the press, VIPs and celebrities. The new Scout is a contemporary yet classic interpretation of  one of motorcycling’s most famous and coveted bikes. With a starting US MSRP of $10,999 and a DNA that will appeal to riders of multiple skill sets and abilities. It has a smaller size, more agile stance to attract smaller riders, youngsters, female riders, or first-time riders who might be intimidated by a full-size Indian. It is an approach that competitor Harley-Davidson has taken with the Sportster and the Street.

ScoutredThis is the first truly new Indian Scout in more than 70 years and marks the return of the legendary bikes that conquered the infamous “Wall of Death” and carried the legendary “Indian Wrecking Crew” motorcycle race team to multiple victories. Technology and designs derived from Scout models played a significant role for Allied Forces in World War II and a 1920 Indian Scout earned the title of the “world’s fastest Indian” as proven by Burt Munro in 1967.

IndianScout1Weighing in at a wet weight of 558 pounds – lightest in its class – the 2015 Indian Scout was derived from a clean sheet design, creating a potent and precise middle-weight cruiser that carries forward the spirit of innovation that made it one of the most storied bikes of all time. Boasting advanced technologies, design and engineering innovations, it offers a breakthrough chassis design featuring a lightweight and rigid cast aluminum frame coupled with a low 25.3-inch seat height for exceptional comfort, balance and maneuverability. Powered by an all-new and proprietary liquid-cooled, 69 cubic inch, 100 HP V-twin engine, the 2015 Indian Scout is powerful yet approachable. Its low seat height, low center of gravity, maneuverability and lightweight and compact design makes the Scout appealing to riders of all sizes and experience levels while the high horsepower and superior handling make it a bike that will thrill even the most experienced riders.

“Over the course of 30 years of countless innovations, racing wins, world records and industry firsts, the Scout has earned its reputation as a versatile, multifaceted bike that appeals to just about every rider and every riding style, with superior handling, balance, performance and craftsmanship,” said Steve Menneto, VP of Motorcycles for Polaris Industries. “Our designers and engineers have taken that heritage and those characteristics and fused it into the 2015 Indian Scout, and we think just about everyone who rides this incredible bike is going to feel like it was built just for them.” Continue reading ‘Indian Motorcycle Just Introduced The 2015 Indian Scout’

Indian Motorcycle To Unveil Tonight In Sturgis Its 5th Model

theoneIndianIn 2013, Polaris revived the Indian brand with the introduction of 3 Chief Models, 2 Cruisers – The Classic and The Vintage – and 1 Bagger – the Chieftain. This week, it added a 4th model, a new luxury Tourer named the Roadmaster. And tonight in Sturgis Indian Motorcycle is going to unveil to journalists a 5th model. The suspense is going on…

IndianlineupAt a conference call after the 2014 Polaris 2nd quarter earnings report, CEO Scott Wine stated that he strongly believes that sales of motorcycles (Indian & Victory brands) is going to continue to accelerate in the second half of the year. By 2018 the goal is to achieve at least 1 billion in motorcycle sales, up to only 100 million in 2009. “We’re a little less than halfway there,” said Steve Menneto, Polaris’ Vice President Of Motorcycles. So, tonight we are going to know a little more about the new bid by Polaris to challenge market leader Harley-Davidson. Will this 5th model be the one you expect? Stay tuned for a reveal right here in my website.

Harley-Davidson Is Recalling Some Dyna Low Rider Models

FXDLHarley recalls include 3300 Dyna FXDL Low Riders models because engine vibration can turn the switches from “on” to “accessory.” The recall covers motorcycles from the 2014 ½ model year. If the motorcycles have been modified to rev higher than 5,600 RPMs, an engine mount bracket can vibrate excessively, causing the problem.

If the switch goes to “accessory,” the engine can shut off while being driven and potentially cause a crash. The company said there have been no crashes or injuries reported from the problem. Continue reading ‘Harley-Davidson Is Recalling Some Dyna Low Rider Models’
