Lowell Anderson New Director Of Brands at Tucker Rocky | Biker’s Choice.

Tucker Rocky | Biker’s Choice is pleased to announce the addition of Lowell Anderson as Director of Brands. Anderson comes to the company with an extensive background in the powersports industry.

“I’m very excited to be part of the Tucker Rocky | Biker’s Choice family,” says Anderson. “As Director of Brands, I am looking forward to working with our brand team members to create a compelling assortment of products that is both profitable and desirable to our customers.”

Anderson previously worked as Director of Brands with J&P Cycles, responsible for the assortment, design and development of products for their private label brands, making him the perfect fit for his new role at Tucker Rocky | Biker’s Choice. He also led their merchandising team as well as assisted with the company’s creative marketing and branding efforts.

Prior to his position with J&P Cycles, Anderson worked as a senior manager for KTM North America, helping to create the KTM Hard Equipment product line. He also worked for Cycra Racing as the Director of Brands, creating their accessory line and an inventory management system.

Anderson is a motorcycle enthusiast who has raced both road bikes and dirt bikes. He continues to race dirt bikes as well as building metric bobbers in his spare time.

The All-New 2018 Bonneville Speedmaster. Cruiser Awesomeness.

It was unveiled last Tuesday, and after the huge success of the Triumph Bobber launched one year ago – the fastest selling model in Triumph 115-year history – one could wonder if Triumph would be able to create another hit in such a short time. And the company didn’t disappoint, offering a Cruiser with brutally beautiful lines inspired by the brand 50”s and 60’s iconic models. What many people call pure Classic English Styling.

Yes, the Speedmaster is as shiny as the Bobber is dark, and borrows the same twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 1200cc 270-degree-crank, Bonneville T120 engine in the same rigid looking chassis and swingarm. It provide 25% more power and an amazing 42% more torque than previous Speedmaster and America models. Gas tank is typical Bonneville shape, but in an almost 1-gallon larger capacity to 3.3 gallons for an average cruising range of 176 miles, claims Triumph.

Like the Bobber Black, the Speedmaster rolls on fat 16” front and rear wire-spoke wheels slowed by Brembo brakes. But suspension was tuned with 41 mm front forks and a rear suspension optimized for a passenger weight with a dual-rate main spring and a top-out spring. ABS, traction control, riding modes (rain and road), ride-by-wire, and torque-assist clutch all come standard as with the Bobber model. But the Speedmaster features a standard cruise control.

Triumph announced not less than 130 genuine after-market parts to fit the Speedmaster. For touring, it can be dressed with a windscreen and larger bags . And for purists, fitted with a solo seat kit and some blackout parts to emphasize the bike retro DNA.

Offering good OOMPH in a vintage relax style, it looks to me like the Triumph Speedmaster, as a modern classic, could become a serious competitor of a couple of new 2018 Harley Softails and of the Polaris Indian Scout. But its price is not set yet….The bike will be in dealerships early 2018.

Joke Of The Week

The Smiths were unable to conceive children and decided to use a surrogate father to start a family. On the day the proxy father was due to arrive, Mr Smith, kissed his wife goodbye and said ‘Well, I am off now, the man should be here soon’. Half an hour later, just by chance, a door to door baby photographer happened to ring the doorbell hoping to make a sale. ‘Good Morning ma’am, he said, I’ve come to …….

‘Oh no need to explain’ Mrs Smith cut in’, embarrassed, ‘I’ve been expecting you’. ‘Have you really’ said the photographer. ‘Well, that is good…did you know that babies are my speciality’‘Well, that is what my husband and I hoped…please come in and have a seat’.

After a moment, she asked, blushingly…’well…where do we start’? ‘Leave everything to me, I usually try two in the bathtub, one on the couch, and perhaps, a couple on the bed. Sometimes the living room floor is fun…you can really spread out there’. ‘The bathtub…the couch, the bedroom and the living room floor…no wonder it didn’t work for Harry and me’

‘Well ma’am, none of us can guarantee a good one every time, but, if we try various several different positions, and I shoot from six or seven angles. I am sure you will be pleased with the result’. ‘My…that’s a lot’ gasped Mrs Smith. ‘Ma’am, in my line of work a man has to take his time…I’d rather be in and out in five minutes, but I am sure you would be disappointed with that’. ‘Don’t I know it’ said Mrs Smith quietly. Harley-Davidson Is Trying to Cultivate Millennials While Catering To Loyalists. Seeking A New Generation Of riders Via Digital And Mobile

This story first appeared in the Oct. 2, 2017, issue of Adweek magazine

Ever wanted to hop on a Harley-Davidson Iron 883 motorcycle and weave through gridlocked Manhattan streets? How about hitting the expanse of historic Route 66 while feeling your tires on the asphalt and the wind against your skin? Turns out you can—at least virtually.
Those scenarios are just two of the many available to players of the upcoming Ubisoft video game The Crew 2, an open-road racing adventure set to debut in March 2018. The game is one of the unconventional ways that Harley-Davidson, a 114-year-old legacy brand, is reaching out to millennials and women as it looks to broaden its consumer base beyond its core baby boomers.

The Crew 2 is “gender agnostic,” and like its hit predecessor, The Crew—which has amassed 12 million players—is expected to appeal to young male and female gamers and potentially anyone with a passion for motor sports, said Stephane Jankowski, producer at Ubisoft’s Ivory Tower Studio, which created the franchise.

“We used a lot of feedback from the community in developing the new game,” Jankowski said. “We’ve taken a sandbox approach where players can create their own stories and ask themselves, ‘What do I want to do today?’”

That tactic could help expand the global player pool for Ubisoft and increase the exposure and age range for Harley, which plans to integrate more models into the game’s upgrades next year. And since the franchise earned a PG-13 rating for its first installment, on par with Disney’s live-action flicks, it provides a kid-friendly antidote to the hyper-violent Grand Theft Autos of the world. (The Crew 2 hasn’t been rated yet.)

Many children, by the time they’re 8 or 9 years old, have had “a motorcycle moment,” according to Harley’s research, meaning that they’ve been exposed to riding through someone they know or via a piece of pop culture and want to experience it for themselves, said Heather Malenshek, the brand’s vp, global marketing.

“This is a no-risk environment for them to try out riding and have fun with it,” she said of The Crew 2, which offers a realistic virtual jaunt with no road rash. “And it links to our long-term goals of planting the seed with kids and young adults who can become the next generation of riders.” Continue reading ‘Harley-Davidson Is Trying to Cultivate Millennials While Catering To Loyalists. 1979 BMW R80 Boardracer

Can Boardracer genes be uncovered in any bike from any brand from any period? I guess yes if you use the services of a great custom builder. For this 1979 BMW R80 named “Skyway” the styling master is Jeremy Hutch from Santa Monica, California shop Hutchbilt. This project started as an average custom tweak but Jeremy could not stand the idea of producing another custom BMW. Instead, he went for a California racing style, forgetting on purpose the bike German DNA.

Front suspension was improved swapping it for one borrowed from a Yamaha R6. Almost all the bike wiring and cables are run internally inside the frame and bars. It’s true for the throttle and clutch cable systems and the micro switches from Motogadget The brake lever has been eliminated thanks to the fabrication of a custom one-foot front/rear brake system. For a more aggressive look rectangular exhaust tips were CNC machined. And for a very unique appearance this old school BMW received a Mexican blanket-style paint job… Hutchbilt

Eleanor. Dyna Nostalgia.

A little bit more than one month ago, as Harley-Davidson’s 2018 Softail-only line-up was announced, all Dyna models disappeared. Many Harley fans and custom builders were outraged when they learn that the Dyna, considered the the pure beloved descendant of the FXR, would no more be available to purchase, ride and customize. During these last 10 years I have featured quite a few FXD’s, most turned into high performance bikes with the road-gobbling power of a rubber-mounted big Twin engine and the sporty suspension of twin rear shocks. So, I guess this feature is for all nostalgic fans of the elastomer engine mounts Dyna.

Eleanor was displayed for the 1st time beginning of September during the 20th edition of European Bike Week in Faaker See, Austria. A killer build by NCT Motorcycles showing one more time that the Dyna is a superb, if not always easy, platform to turn a Harley into an aggressive, low slung and ready to race bike. Of course, the job got started with a complete strip down, then with a heavy rear frame modification by fabricator Manuel Tilke to redefine the Dyna sportive stance. Engine kept its stock internals but was overhauled to 96 “ or 1584 cc. Continue reading ‘Eleanor. Dyna Nostalgia.’

Annual V-Twin Expo By Easyriders Is Cancelled

With a first edition in February 2000 in Cincinnati, the V-Twin Expo by Esyriders was an annual trade show dedicated and reserved to all professionals of the V-Twin industry. Held at the Duke Energy Center, vendors were showing their new aftermarket parts and accessories to opinion leaders, journalists, distributors and motorcycle dealers while many seminars were held on the topics of the day.

When the big economic recession hit In 2008 the trade show began to struggle with each year less vendors participating and less dealers visiting it. Manufacturers tight marketing budgets, expensive exhibitor booths and cheap competition from internet letting vendors announce and explain their new products all year long accelerated the demise of the V-Twin Expo by Easyriders, one of the Assets of Paisano Publications LLC. Since April, owner of Paisano Joe Teresi is looking for a buyer of  all the Group assets, including magazines Easyriders, In The Wind, Road Iron, Wrench, Tattoo and Easyriders outdoor events.

Joke Of The Week

Hi, Honey!  Before you return from your business trip overseas, I thought I’d better let you know about the little  accident I had with our F-150 pickup truck yesterday when I turned into the driveway. Fortunately it wasn’t too bad and I didn’t get hurt, so please don’t worry about me.

I was coming home and when I turned into the driveway I accidentally pushed down on the accelerator instead of the brake, while I was talking on my cell phone. The garage door is slightly bent but fortunately, the truck came to a halt when it bumped into your new Ferrari. Thankfully, it missed our bikes.

I am really sorry, but I know that you will forgive me.  You know how much I love you and care for you, my sweetheart. Your loving wife, Doris.

P.S:  Your girlfriend phoned. She is pregnant…

On November 14, Live Online Public Auction Of The Late John Parham’s Barn Finds

The family of John Parham, founder of J&P Cycles and the President of the Board of Directors of the non-profit National Motorcycle Museum, has hired Liquid Asset Partners to hold an auction of Parham’s “barn finds” – personal property that’s never been shown in the National Motorcycle Museum. Motorcycles, Cars, Parts and Historical Artifacts will be auctioned off in a live and online auction on November 14.

John Parham created an amazing legacy with the creation of J&P Cycles and his direction of the National Motorcycle Museum. Along the way, John nearly filled a couple of “back barns” with motorcycles, bicycles, parts, gas pumps, cars and more barn find buys that never made it into the already full National Motorcycle Museum.

“We’ve been hired to help empty the ‘back barns’ so the Parham family can focus their energy on running the Museum,” said Bill Melvin, owner of Liquid Asset Partners. “Though none of the sale items are Museum property, Jill Parham will be donating 20% of the net proceeds of the sale to the National Motorcycle Museum.”

The live auction will take place on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in Anamosa, Iowa. The lot list will be available in early October. Online bidding will be available through Proxibid at Liquid Asset Partners. 10% Buyer’s Premium onsite. 13% Buyers Premium online.

Liquid Asset Partners will be welcoming other consignments. Please call 616-719-5917 for consignment information.

Tyler Malinky From Lowbrow Customs Recaptures Land Speed Record

Tyler Malinky, founder and CEO of Lowbrow Customs, has successfully reclaimed a land speed record on his 1955 Triumph motorcycle. Starting his land speed racing career in 2010, he has set record speeds in five different classes, including the A-VG 750 record back in 2011. “It feels great to set a goal and then accomplish it, especially when that goal is difficult to achieve, such as a land speed record,” said Malinky.

The new record is 124.593 mph on his 1955 Triumph, which was originally only 33 horsepower at the crankshaft. Malinky’s custom-built race bike ‘Poison Ivy’ touts almost double the power and torque of the original. “Going fast is fun no matter what, but taking something slow and making it go faster than it should is what I enjoy,” said Malinky, “especially when I built it in my home garage out of swap meet junk, tubing and sheet metal.” Continue reading ‘Tyler Malinky From Lowbrow Customs Recaptures Land Speed Record’

Her Name Is Betty And She’s A Classic

The Harley Shovelhead from the AMF era (model years 1970-1981) had a bad reputation. Yes, it has been mocked with nicknames like “Hardly Ableson”, “Hardly Driveable,” and “Hogly Ferguson”. It was partly unjustified because many Shovel didn’t have more issues that many irons of that time. Yes, Shovels will probably weep or seep and sometimes even leak.

But today the Shovel is acknowledged as one of the best engines ever produced by the mother factory, even under the AMF ownership. To the point that the Shovelhead, as a bike or as a motor, has never been so desirable and expensive since the Evo replaced it. Continue reading ‘Her Name Is Betty And She’s A Classic’
