Carberry Reveals India-Made Twin-Cylinder Royal Enfield Engine

Australia’s custom Royal Enfield bike builder, Carberry Motorcycles opened shop in India earlier this year and has now officially released details on its first made-in-India 1000 cc V-Twin Royal Enfield engine.

It is basically two Royal Enfield engines fused into one. Started by Paul Carberry, the first India-made Carberry 1000 cc V-Twin cruiser will be revealed later this year. The engine will be separately sold to custom builders and for exports

The motor is now ready for sale and includes the primary drive and the transmission. There’s a seven-plate clutch with strengthened primary chain, 5-speed transmission, hydraulic lifters and a heavy crankshaft. Carberry has added a heavy-duty starter motor and the clutch designed is that for a 2-liter car engine.

Carberry further reveals that the oil capacity stands at 3.7 liters, whereas the lifters and oil pump run in their own housings, protecting the engine cases from wear and tear. The custom builder says that the motor will provide linear power delivery throughout the rev range and the old school design is appropriate for custom builds. The exhaust system is not a part of the engine setup as it is frame dependent.

Things You Didn’t Know About Polaris Industries

1. Polaris is founded in 1954 in Roseau, Minn.
Edgar Hetteen, David Johnson, and Edgar’s brother Allan were the original partners in Polaris that originally produced farm equipment. Two years after the company’s founding it produced the first forerunner of today’s snowmobile, which was sold to a Roseau lumberyard owner. Polaris made five sleds the first year, 75 the second, and 300 in the third. Today it is one of the largest manufacturers of snowmobiles in the world.
2. One of the original partners ends up founding rival Arctic Cat
After a controversial promotional tour across Alaska, Ed Heteen left Polaris in 1960 and founded Arctic Enterprises, which would eventually become one of Polaris’ major rivals, Arctic Cat.
3. Textron acquires Polaris in 1968
At the height of the snowmobile craze in the 1960s, diversified manufacturer Textron (NYSE:TXT) acquired the company, which joined it with the E-Z Go golf cart company it had acquired. (Coincidentally, Textron acquired Arctic Cat in March of this year.)
4. Polaris management leads a leveraged buyout in 1981
Choosing to focus on defense contracts, Textron tried to sell Polaris to rival Bombardier, but the deal fell apart because of U.S. antitrust resistance, and management instead led a leveraged buyout of the company.
5. Polaris begins making ATVs in 1985
The ATV market was dominated by Honda, which virtually created the industry, but it was Polaris that introduced the first American-made ATV.
6. Polaris Industries had its IPO Sept. 25, 1987
The company’s stock has appreciated more than 5,500% from its split-adjusted value of its $1.67 initial public offering price.
7. Polaris introduces its first personal watercraft in 1992
Entering the marine market, Polaris brought innovation to the sport, and its Genesis personal watercraft device was the first to seat up to four people. It would exit the market 12 years later.
8. Sales pass $1 billion for the first time in 1995
As Polaris enjoyed growing sales across all of its product lines, it exceeded $1 billion in revenues for the first time in 1995, which also marked at the time the seventh consecutive year of record growth. It wouldn’t make its next billion dollars until 2011, but it would exceed $3 billion in 2012.
9. It introduces Victory Motorcycles in 1998
Watching Harley-Davidson’s astronomical sales rise in motorcycles, which saw it hit record sales and profits yet again, Polaris Industries sought to steal some of that thunder with the introduction of a new American-made motorcycle, Victory. Sales would be somewhat respectable but never record setting.
10. Polaris enters the military
While the U.S. military has been using Polaris ATVs since the 1980s, Polaris Industries was awarded its first contract in 2004, a five-year $10.3 million agreement to produce 700 ATVs for the U.S. Army’s Special Operations Command (SOCOM). It is the first ATV OEM to produce militarized vehicles for SOCOM and the Army. Today it makes seven models for the military, including its latest the MRZR-D, a diesel-powered RZR.
Polaris was awarded its first contract with an allied forces military in 2013 when Germany selected it to produce its MV850 ultra-light tactical vehicles for its army.
11. The RZR side-by-side comes out in 2007
The vehicle that would really change everything for Polaris, the trail-width-compliant RZR side-by-side would catapult the powersports-vehicle maker to the industry forefront, and it would never look back.
12. It buys Indian Motorcycle in 2011
Indian Motorcycle is the oldest American-made manufacturer of motorcycles, having beaten Harley-Davidson to market by a few years in 1901. However, Indian would go through bankruptcy several times during its existence.
13. It becomes the North American ATV market-share leader in 2012
On the strength of its Ranger and RZR models, Polaris would take over first place in ATVs as well as side-by-side sales.
14. It introduces the first new Indian motorcycles in 2014
Going back to Indian’s classic styling, Polaris rebirths the brand with four bikes under its new banner: the Indian Chief Classic, the Indian Chief Vintage, the Indian Chieftain.
15. The 3-wheeled Slingshot motorcycle rolls out in 2014
Taking motorcycling in a different direction, Polaris launched the three-wheeled Slingshot. But unlike other models on the road, such as the Can-Am Spyder, Polaris has two wheels up front and the single wheel in the back, which gives it a more car-like experience.
16-Polaris enters electric motorcycle market in 2015 with Brammo purchase. While Harley-Davidson got a lot of mileage from its LiveWire Project electric bike, Polaris sought to jump-start its position in the e-bike market with the purchase of the entire Brammo electric bike business. Drivetrains may have been uppermost in Polaris’ mind though, and e-bikes seem to ever be on the horizon as concerns about distance. Continue reading ‘Things You Didn’t Know About Polaris Industries’

1989 Street Tracker Sportster

The V-Twin industry is in racing mode and bikers are in a racing mood. From custom made motorcycles built in the spirit of the first wheel demons of the 1920’s and later to the current Factory Flat Track Machines, the highly competitive, adreline-fueled American Flat Track sport is attracting new fans every day. Building for display or for race is the new trend in shops all over the country.

The 1989 Sportster featured here is evidently much more than a custom dirt track themed motorcycle. Although its design would bring many gold trophies in many major bike show competitions, it was not the primary objective of its fabricator, Curtis Fisk, owner and operator of Maryland custom shop Full Circle V-Twin. Ural Coffee Shop

Ural will give you thousand of reasons to explore beyond the trail using one of their sidecars. For all motorcycle and coffee lovers looking for a side gig during rallies there is another reason to buy one… Build a Coffee Shop inside one of their sidecars. Ride to an event. Pop the umbrella. Start slinging expressos in about 10 minute and make good money…

The idea comes from Dallas, Texas-based Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters. The company shows up at local events on a converted Ural sidecar motorcycle coffee shop. Oak Cliff has also a fresh-roasted coffee home delivery subscription program.

How much will it cost you to build your own outdoor coffee business? Not sure, but you will need to start from the plainest, least expensive and least equipped Ural sidecar motorcycle model, the model M70, with a $16,500 starting price. Strength of the stock sidecar frame is good enough to install a 450lbs coffee machine unit without needing to modify the bike’s frame, while still enabling it to travel up to 50mph.

Vanderhall Venice

Are three wheels better than four? Are 3-wheeler trikes, motorcycles or auto-cycles (it legally depends of the state where you live.) For the purpose of this short feature I don’t care. I acknowledge that I didn’t know Vanderhall Motor Works, a company based in Provo, Utah and currently exhibiting on Lazalle Street in Sturgis, offering test rides to bikers who like retro styling with 2 wheels in the front and side by side sitting. The new lubricants come in heavy gauge, wide mouth bottles that feature foil sealed caps and color-coded labels and caps for easy product identification. Each lubricant has been manufactured from superior base stock that provides more consistent viscosity, extreme wear resistance and increased stability at high temperatures. Jared Mees On Indian Motorcycle Unbeatable At The Harley-Davidson Black Hills Half-Mile

AFT Twins. Jared Mees took another important step toward the 2017 American Flat Track championship with a victorious performance in Tuesday night’s Harley-Davidson Black Hills Half-Mile in Rapid City, S.D.The AFT Twins presented by Vance & Hines points leader saw a two-plus second advantage wiped clean when a red flag momentarily halted the action just after the race’s halfway point. Undaunted, Mees simply reenacted his earlier escape, quickly assembling just enough of a gap to break free of the scrap for second. He would eventually sail past the checkered flag without any real fear of coming under assault from behind.

Thirteen races into the 19-race season, Mees boasts seven wins, 11 top-twos, and 12 podium results. Not surprisingly, that sort of consistent excellence has allowed the three-time Grand National Champion to pile up a 36-point championship advantage with just five races left to be run. Factoring in his Sunday second at the Buffalo Chip TT, Mees racked up a crucial 45 points over two fruitful days at the 77th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Joke Of The Week

A Charlotte, NC   lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against fire among other things.   Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet having made even his first premium payment on the policy, the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost ‘in a series of small fires.’ The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason: that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.

The lawyer sued….  and won! In delivering the ruling the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The Judge stated nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be “unacceptable fire,” and was obligated to pay the claim.

Rather than endure a lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000.00 to the lawyer for his loss of the rare cigars lost in the  fires.

NOW FOR THE BEST PART… After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!!   With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to a $24,000.00 fine. (1st place winner in the recent Criminal Lawyers Award Contest.)

Fast Motorcycle News From The 77th Annual Sturgis Rally (Part 2)

Anti-Sex Trafficking Message Blankets Sturgis During The Rally. A gathering of hundreds of thousands of people from around the country is the perfect ground for an increased demand for buying sex. At the 2016 Sturgis rally, eight arrests were made during a sex trafficking sting by law enforcement. Each person faced charges of attempted enticement of a minor using the internet and other charges. Volunteers are on the ground at the event, connecting with rally-goers and handing out booklets with information about missing children and giving away lip balms wrapped in paper and listing trafficking hotline numbers.

Sturgis Rally Vendor Statistics – As of 8:00 a.m. August 7, the City of Sturgis has received 654 applications for Temporary Vending Permits and 649 have been issued. This number compares to 712 in 2016. This will likely be the final number. however applications have yet to be audited for missing and duplicated numbers.

Each Year The Rally Brings An Important Infusion Of Cash And…Of Counterfeit Money into the region’s economy. It’s not just the 50 and 100 bills, like everyone thinks it would be. There are a lot of fake 10s and 20s out there. For individuals receiving cash and not equipped like merchants and banks to check money, a strange texture feel is still very often the sign you have been passed a fake bill.

Sturgis Main Street Makeover Is Confusing Bikers About How To Park Their Bikes. But it’s considered by all a big cosmetic improvement for the city. The 3.5 million renovation between middle and 4th street began in 2016 and just got completed. The renovation was modeled after the Harley-Davidson Rally Point in downtown Sturgis, using the same color combinations, stone, decorative railings and so forth.

Inaugural Sturgis Buffalo Chip TT Presented by Indian Motorcycle

Sunday evening, front of of a massive crowd of Sturgis rally goers it was am electric atmosphere at the new Buffalo Chip track for Round 13 of the 2017 American Flat Track Championship. The AFT Twins presented by Vance & Hines Main event was a most unpredictable affair, featuring three red flags, an all-but certain winner who didn’t win, and a crasher who did. Ultimately, the checkered flag went to Briar Bauman (No. 14 Zanotti Racing Kawasaki Ninja 650), who secured his second victory of the season in most impressive – albeit unusual – fashion.

But even Bauman was forced to admit that the evening seemed destined to fall in the favor of American Flat Track’s all-time TT king, Henry Wiles (No. 17 DPC Racing Kawasaki Ninja 650). Wiles started the Main from pole and looked to be well on his way to a record-extending 18th career TT win, even through a pair of red flags that twice reset rapidly expanding advantages to nil.

However, on the race’s third start, it was Wiles himself who forced the next appearance of the red flag. The TT-specialist’s steed started leaking oil and second-placed Bauman was the first to fall in Wiles’ wake, bringing about an immediate stoppage to the action. Wiles’ bike was too extensively damaged to repair in time to make the subsequent restart. Meanwhile, Bauman was promoted to the front of the field despite his crash as a result of not having caused the incident. Bauman took full advantage of this final twist, breaking away from the pack to back up his Lima Half-Mile victory in style. Jake Johnson raced the team’s Harley-Davidson XG750R competition motorcycle to a third-place finish. Custom Triumph Bonnie

After 3 generations over 3 separate production runs the parallel-twin four-stroke engine Triumph Bonneville remains extremely popular. Looking for a donor bike to build a performance Cafe Racer or a Cool Roadster, each Bonneville generation (1959-1983, 1085-1988 and 2001 to today) has a different design, but still strongly resembles the original series. So many custom parts are available and so many one-off mods have been made on this English Classic that it’s quite difficult to create very unusual custom Bonnies. But some succeed in getting this little bit “je ne sais quoi”, making you spending more time looking at it and wanting to jump on it for a spin.

This one is the work of a young team, duo Sébastien Guillemot and Mathieu Ménard at French FCR Original.  A small shop whose philosophy is to build from old machines new creations that you can take to the road without any worries. So nothing excessive on their custom bikes. For this Bonneville T-100, keeping its original speed-oriented personality, but with functional characteristics for some fun adventures.

Nickel plating the frame and swingarm. then mixing chrome and paint on the gas tank has a lot to do with the overall high class appearance. Polishing the front end in contrast of new spoke wheels, and brushing all engine covers preserves the vintage vibe. Of course a rear shocks upgrade to today’s standard was a priority. A 2-up leather custom seat and a one-off shotgun exhaust were also a necessity,

In the front, a 60’s style cockpit with a LED light through the front number board, MX bars, vintage gear and grips, a Monza gas cap and a the required small speedo. This Bonnie rolls on good looking and multi-terrain ready Continental TKC80s. FCR Original.

They will once again come together for their annual meeting in Spearfish, SD on August 7, 2017, hosting another amazing silent auction to again benefit children with disabilities. Billy Lane’s Sons Of Speed Races are set August 10, 3pm at Full Throttle Saloon’s Pappy Hoel Campground and Resort race track.

Bikers for Trump Or Bikers For Personal Profit? Appropriation of the Trump brand name for profit must have been brisk business during last year’s 76th rally. Many “Trump” vendors are back with unlicensed $20 tee-shirts, caps and buttons. Interesting to notice that there is still no litigation with these vendors who openly will tell you that they work for themselves. Apparently, much easier than selling Sturgis Rally SMRI licensed merchandise.

Speed Limits. Interstate 90 speed limits are lowered from 75 mph to 65 mph from Exit 55 through Exit 30 on the west side of Sturgis. The speed limit on Highway 34 from Sturgis east to Fort Meade Way at the Buffalo Chip Campground was dropped to 35 mph, with temporary signals also regulating traffic flow. North of Highway 34 on Highway 79, the speed limit drops to 45 mph for about 1-1/2 miles north of the intersection.

Fire Risk Remains High. Meade County has enacted a burn ban and most campgrounds don’t allow campfires, but the worry is an unauthorized campfire starting a wildfire. Dry lightning from passing thunderstorms also is a big concern.
