After 25 Years The Famous Kuryakyn Hypercharger Got A Successor. The Hypercharger ES.

When you hear Hypercharger™, you think Kuryakyn®. After the hot rod-inspired intake was introduced to V-twin enthusiasts more than 25 years ago, it arguably became the industry’s best-selling aftermarket air cleaner with hundreds of thousands of units sold to-date worldwide. Now, the journey has come full circle with the official introduction of the revolutionary Hypercharger ES.

Representing the evolution of one of the industry’s most iconic products, the Hypercharger ES showcases modern updates in both style and performance. The radical new design features state-of-the-art electronic butterfly engagement, delivering precise butterfly movement compared to vacuum-operated fluttering. An integrated servo motor that connects to the coil actuates and opens the butterflies with every twist of the throttle, creating an interactive experience between rider, air cleaner and motorcycle unlike anything available.

Air delivery is maximized through an all-new Kuryakyn-designed high-flow K&N® filter element. The larger surface area combined with an internal stinger design on the filter’s end cap results in approximately 10-percent more airflow, improved CFM rating, and increased horsepower and torque versus previous Hypercharger models. Third-party dyno tuning performed on a stock Harley-Davidson® 107-cubic-inch Milwaukee-Eight® Touring model produced an 8.5-percent horsepower increase and 3 percent more torque.* Continue reading ‘After 25 Years The Famous Kuryakyn Hypercharger Got A Successor. Urban Harley Street 750 In “Bad Luck” Green

Positioned as an ideal entry to the Harley-Davidson brand with minimalist Dark Custom styling and built for the urban environment, you don’t expect a custom Street painted in “bad luck” green. For Austrian builder NCT Motorcycles, the legend of the “green” Harley being bad luck doesn’t matter. If you want to be noticed in any urban jungle, it’s the way to go…

Harley-Davidson dealer Motodrom Sintschnig commissioned NCT Motorcycles to customize this Street 750 to become one of the raffle prizes for the upcoming 20th annual European Bike Week in Faaker See, Austria (September 5-10). And of course, from pro to pro and for a bike giveaway, customization budget was very tight. It implied an immediate choice. Going for tech improvement or looks, but not both. NCT made the evident choice for a prize: to aesthetically reinforce the pure rebellion, aggressive attitude of the bike without compromising the bike main Harley features, agility and maneuverability, instant throttle response of the 750 cc Revolution X™ liquid-cooled powertrain.

Focusing only on one thing, bodywork, and not tech modifications, NCT cut and looped the frame and fabricated a new seat cowl with a “frenched” LED taillight. Front end was slighly lowered for a better angle of attack. The gas tank has been noticeably narrowed and is described by the shop as one of the most difficult tasks to make it look tight from all angles. Headlight is stock but no more fitted inside the factory speed screen. Continue reading ‘Urban Harley Street 750 In “Bad Luck” Green’

The Short List To Buy Ducati Would Include Polaris And Benetton

(Milan, source Reuters) Italy’s Benetton family is among five bidders shortlisted to buy Italian motorcycle brand Ducati, which is being sold by Germany’s Volkswagen, a source close to the matter said yesterday Saturday July 29.

The finalists will be given access to the company’s books after the summer, the source said, adding that the offers received valued Ducati at 1.3 billion-1.5 billion euros ($1.5 billion-$1.8 billion). Volkswagen’s luxury brand Audi, which is the owner of Ducati, declined to comment.

Earlier on Saturday, two Italian newspapers said that besides the Benetton family’s investment vehicle, Edizione Holding, the shortlist included U.S. automotive firm Polaris Industries and private equity funds such as Ducati’s previous owner Investindustrial, France’s PAI and Bain Capital. Joke Of The Week

How Is Noreen?

A sweet grandmother telephoned St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She timidly asked, “Is it possible to speak to someone who can tell me how a patient is doing?”
The operator said, “I’ll be glad to help, dear. What’s the name and room number?”
The grandmother in her weak, tremulous voice said “Noreen, Room 302”
The operator replied, “Let me place you on hold while I check with her nurse.”

After a few minutes, the operator returned to the phone and said, “Oh, I have good news. Her nurse just told me that Noreen is doing very well. Her blood pressure is fine; her blood work just came back as normal, and her physician, Dr. Cohen, has scheduled her to be discharged on Tuesday.”

The grandmother said, “Thank you. That’s wonderful! I was so worried God bless you for the good news.” The operator replied, “You’re more than welcome. Is Noreen your daughter?”

The grandmother said, “No, I’m Noreen in 302. No one tells me shit.”

Indian Motorcycle Sets Three Land Speed Records At El Mirage California

According to the Southern California Timing Association (SCTAI) Indian Motorcycle has set three new land speed records,) at El Mirage, California. Indian was out at El Mirage with three machines – a 2015 Chief Classic, a 2015 Indian Scout and the 2017 Spirit of Munro Scout. Two Indian Motorcycle technicians and Burt Munro’s great nephew, Lee Munro, were riding the bikes that entered the record books.

The first of the three Indian riders was Chet Michaelson, an engine calibration technician at Indian Motorcycle. In the M-PG (Modified-Pushrod Gasoline) 2000cc class, riding a 2015 Indian Chief Classic, Chet beat the old record of 151 MPH (243 km/hr) with a speed of 154.132 MPH (248 km/hr).

The second Indian rider was Lee Munro – aboard the Spirit of Munro 50th anniversary 2017 Indian Scout. Competing in the MPS-G (Modified Partial Streamliner) 1350cc class, Lee needed to exceed 167 MPH (268.76 km/hr) for a new record. After completing his rookie runs during the May meet at El Mirage, this was the first chance to let the bike loose and explore its potential. Lee recorded a speed of 186.681 MPH (300.43 km/hr), a new record and the Indian team was two for two.

The third and final Indian rider was Dan Gervais, senior engine calibration technician at Indian Motorcycle. Dan was competing in the M-G (Modified-Gasoline) 1350cc class with a lightly modified 2015 Indian Scout. Like Lee Munro, Dan also completed his rookie runs at the May meet at El Mirage. Dan’s speed of 154.354 MPH (248.40 km/hr) edged out the 153 MPH (246.23 km/hr) record and gave Indian its third record of the day.

Gary Gray, Vice President – Product Development for Indian Motorcycle said: “When you’re breaking records during test runs, you know your machine is on point. Our team of engineers has done an incredible job on the Spirit of Munro commemorative Scout. Running within a different class has allowed Lee to truly honor his great uncle Burt. As Burt’s record still stands, Lee now joins Burt within the record book.” Continue reading ‘Indian Motorcycle Sets Three Land Speed Records At El Mirage California’

The first motorcycle meeting at Lake Faak took place in 1998 and was a Harley-Davidson anniversary event at this time. The next year, the event was renamed European Bike Week. Ninth Annual Brooklyn Invitational September 9. Customized Indian Scout Bobbers Will Be Unveiled By Keino Cycles, Steve Caballero With Roland Sands Design And Kraus Motor Co.

Indian Motorcycle announced yesterday its title sponsorship of The Ninth Annual Brooklyn Invitational Custom Motorcycle Show held September 9, 2017 in Brooklyn, New York. Along with its sponsorship, Indian will unveil three custom versions of the all-new Scout Bobber crafted by Keino Cycles, Kraus Motor Co. and skateboarding icon Steve Caballero, in conjunction with Roland Sands Design. The all-new Scout Bobber was released during X Games weekend in Indian’s hometown of Minneapolis. A low-slung, blacked-out, minimalist motorcycle that proves less is definitely more.

“With its lean and mean, minimalist design, the Scout Bobber provides builders an ideal platform for customization, and we’re excited to see the creative interpretations brought to life by these three unique customizers,” said Reid Wilson, Marketing Director – Indian Motorcycle. “The Brooklyn invitational carefully curates an exhibition of incredible customs and from some of the world’s most renowned builders, providing the ultimate venue for us to showcase these custom Scout Bobbers and demonstrate the bike’s potential.”

Indian specifically chose these three well-known customizers, because each brings a uniquely distinct vision and signature style. The end result being three totally unique custom interpretations of the Scout Bobber. While Keino Sasaki and Satya Kraus carry long-standing reputations forged through years within the customization and aftermarket industry, skateboard icon Steve Caballero has seen his profile increase steadily within the motorcycle community thanks to his love for vintage American v-twins and his participation in festivals such as Wheels & Waves.

The Brooklyn Invitational is a motorcycle, photography and music showcase Builders appear by invitation only. Hosted at Root Studios, doors open on Sept. 9 from 1-11pm ET and tickets run for $15.

Harley-Davidson By The Numbers

On July 18th, during a conference call after announcing Harley-Davidson very disappointing 2nd quarter 2017 results, Harley’s CEO Matt Levatich tried to reassure the financial markets by stating “we are going to build bikers first, add 2 million new Harley-Davidson riders and launch 100 brand mew models during the next 10 years while growing the international business by 50%. Of course, most of financial analysts smiled after hearing such wishful thinking, and personally I don’t know any motorcycle industry expert believing in such an over-optimistic prediction. To form your own point of view, a few numbers to know.

– During 2nd quarter 2017, Harley-Davidson net income dropped 7.7%. Sales in the US were down 9.3 percent inand 6.7 percent worldwide.

– Harley-Davidson now expects to ship 241,000 to 246,000 motorcycles to dealers worldwide in 2017, which is down approximately 6 percent to 8 percent from 2016.

– 180 US based manufacturing jobs will be cut this fall in Menomonee Falls and Kansas City. Temporary furloughs are also expected. Last year Harley-Davidson cut 200 jobs, and in April of this year, another 118 workers were axed at the York plant with those positions to be shifted to Kansas City. Shovelhead In Glamorous Chopper Outfit

With this feature I am not going to re-write the story of the Harley Shovelhead (1966 to 1984), introduced as a successor to the Panhead engine. I am much more interested in making you notice that while the new engine gave an extra 10 horsepower, it had problems all along in its timeline. But that despite running hot (only 10 fins for cooling…), oil leaking and consumption, valves prone to sticking and destroying the top end, the Shovelhead remains one of the few oem motors adding glamour to any motorcycle of any style…

Many fully rebuilt factory engines and trannys don’t end up in oem frames, but in one-off hand-made frames. But the builder behind this creation is well known builder Thunderbike Of Germany, a major official Harley Dealer in Germany with probably one of the very best and equipped custom building department in all Europe. It means that they almost always start from a modified H-D frame (to keep the official Harley title) and work almost exclusively with genuine Harley parts, even if modified to the point of being unrecognizable.

This “Green Shovel” is not only glamorous and appealing because of its naked overall appearance, beauty of lines and details (let’s not forget the rider…), but also because of the pure nostalgia brought back to us by some of the aesthetic codes from the 60’s and 70’s. Among others, an increased steering head rake, a stretched front end, ape hangers, a front drum brake, upswept pipes, a Frisco mounted gas tank, etc… and of course a  flamboyant but not over-glitzy paint job.

Eliminating the unnecessary and the undesirable, Thunderbike focused on machining a few driveline and bracket techno parts. They are so design-pretty in replacement of what are usually very mundane motorcycle parts, that they largely contribute to the glamorization of this green Chop. He’s the first person to tell you that building custom motorcycles for a living isn’t the easy path to riches, but with the right woman behind you anything is possible. By day he works 9-5 helping to pay the bills, at night he wrenches, and on weekends he becomes a superhero. Join Scott at his home shop in SoCal where he builds one-off monsters for the road and track and take a front row seat as he enters the Hooligan fighting pit with his Harley sponsored Noise Cycles racing team.

2nd. Episode. Jeff Cochran builds bobbers. Stripped-down, kick-ass bobbers. Widely known as co-founder of Sucker Punch Sally’s, he now works from a private shop in rural Indiana building his special brand of choppers for the working man. He approaches each build with a jeweler’s eye and has his shop set up like a one-man factory assembly line. In this episode of Bike & Builder take an intimate voyage with Jeff into the shop of your dreams.

3rd Episode. Keino has a vision. One of the last true metal shapers, he creates his visions in his mind and hammers them into existence. But having vision isn’t enough, it takes sacrifice, and work. It takes the passion and drive to leave the land of your birth and head to a country where you don’t speak the language, to take classes in something you know nothing about, to seek out an internship at a shop where you only survive by proving you worth, and finally, maybe you get to study under a master. Keino’s work with Indian Larry is now the stuff of legend. That time is now past. Join him as he takes you inside his mind and shows you what he has in store for the future.
