The story of the collaboration between actor Keanu Reeves and builder Gard Hollinger is much more than the one of a motorcycle enthusiast lending his famous name to a limited edition custom project built by a pro. As a matter of fact, in his life, Reeves has only owned 2 cars and always made motorcycles his main mode of transportation. To the point of buying a motorcycle wherever he is on a movie set and reselling it after the shoot ends. A true passion for motorcycling that led him to ride many brands and models. Well, a variety of riding experience and a number of traveled miles to know what he prefers and an enhanced appreciation for what makes a motorcycle great. A type of bike that he imagined and that one day he had the opportunity to discuss with very reputable custom builder and ex-racer Gard Hollinger. A versatile machine offering the modern – but retro influenced look – and the modern-day performance of a bike you could enjoy as much while cruising or attacking some twists. National Cycle just released this fender-mounted luggage rack, somewhat reminiscent of the one found on a 1942 Indian Sport Scout.

Simple to install. Just remove the passenger pillion and use the supplied hardware to mount the rack to the stock passenger seat mount points.

It’s a quick job that pays back big style points, as well as added luggage carrying capacity.

Sturgis. Baker’s 2nd Annual “All In To Go All-Out” Drag Days. 1st Annual Drag School.

Do you want to get arrested in Sturgis? For street racing? Sure, spending the night in jail makes for a hell of a story back home but the BAKER jailhouse spies tell us the food is not that good. You can bypass a face-to-face meeting with the local judge by joining BAKER at the legendary Sturgis Dragway on Tuesday August 9th from 6:30-10pm. The rules are simple: 1 Free admission for racers and spectators; no tricks or gimmicks. 2Two-wheeled vehicles only. 3 Grudge, get your best ET or put the spank on your loudmouthed riding buddy.

Bert Baker, co-founder of BAKER Drivetrain and 2016 Sturgis Hall Of Fame inductee, throws this event for fellow racers and performance-nuts to commit “all-in” so they can go “all-out” and to encourage those who have never been on a drag strip to take the plunge. Like last year, the atmosphere will cater to 8 second drag bikes and 5hp mini bikes alike. This year, even more “fuckery” is expected as Bert has teamed up with Verl ‘Smitty’ Smith to offer a motorcycle drag racing school the morning of the event. At The Sturgis Dragway, Tuesday August 9 from 6.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

To take it to the next level, Bert Baker and his BAKER crew are teaming up with the famous drag racer Verl “Smitty” Smith (A.K.A., “Mr. Excitement”), an all-out, competitive drag racer with a personal best of 8.88 seconds @155.68ET ¼ mile. Whether it’s your first time on the drag strip or you’ve been racing for years, this is your opportunity to learn from the expert. If you’re new to the sport Mr. Excitement will teach you what you need to know to make your own ¼ mile passes with confidence. If you’re a seasoned racer you can hone your skills.

This special drag racing school will be held Tuesday, August 9 from 9am until noon. Participants in the school can be poised to break personal records, win grudge match-ups or wow spectators at the All-in to go All-out races later that evening at the same location. Harley-Davidson 2nd Quarter Results. Worldwide Sales Down 1.9%. US Sales Down 5.2%. EMEA Region + 8.2%.

This Thursday morning Harley-Davidson Inc. (HOG) reported second-quarter earnings of $280.4 million. On a per-share basis, the Milwaukee-based company said it had net income of $1.55 per share. Harley-Davidson shares have increased 11 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index has increased 6 percent. The stock has decreased 12 percent in the last 12 months. Harley-Davidson worldwide retail motorcycle sales in the second quarter were down 1.9 percent on weak U.S. industry results. Harley-Davidson retail motorcycle sales in the U.S. were down 5.2 percent compared to the year-ago quarter, with the overall U.S. industry down 8.6 percent for the same period. Harley-Davidson U.S. market share for the quarter was 49.5 percent, an increase of 2.0 points over the same period in 2015. International retail sales increased by 4.3 percent over the prior year quarter

Given market softness in the U.S., the continued competitive environment and global economic uncertainty, the company is taking the precautionary step of lowering its full-year shipment guidance. The company now expects to ship 264,000 to 269,000 motorcycles to dealers worldwide in 2016. This action is consistent with the company’s long-standing commitment to manage supply in line with demand.

“While our investments to grow product awareness and ridership globally are beginning to take hold in a number of markets, current conditions in the U.S. and economic headwinds in other parts of the world combine to raise caution for us as we continue to focus our strategy to drive demand and deliver strong returns to shareholders,” said Levatich.

Harley-Davidson Recalls 27,000 Motorcycles For Clutch Issue

Harley-Davidson Inc. is recalling 14 different 2016 models, a total of 27,232 motorycles, for a clutch issue hat could result in a crash. If a bike has been parked for an extended period of time, the clutch could malfunction with bike unexpectedly moving forward. As a warning sign, riders may notice a large amount of free play in the clutch lever when they first squeeze it. According to the recall notice of the Traffic Safety Administration the issue is partially related to another recall that included 2014 and 2015 models. Land speed racer Sam Wheeler Killed While Racing At Utah’s Salt Flats

Sam Wheeler, was testing his streamliner racing motorcycle at Utah’s famed Bonneville Salt Flats when his bike fish-tailed, went airborne and crashed at 200 mph falling on the cage section where he was seated. Wheeler was alive when emergency crews extracted him from the car but died from traumatic injuries at the hospital about four hours later. He was 72.

He was an engineer from Arcadia, California who spent decades building and improving the performance of his racing motorcycles, and who became a legend of the sport. His next challenge was to set a new land speed record surpassing 400 mph. He was a regular reader of this website and many among you noticed his sharp and full of wisdom comments. Sam Wheeler is survived by a wife and two children.

2016 Sturgis Commemorative Painting By David Uhl

Since 2005, artist David Uhl has created each year a special piece to commemorate the Sturgis rally. This year’s piece, titled “Badlands”, displays David’s mastery in painting a bike’s patina. The composition and style is reminiscent of his earlier Sturgis piece called ”Once Upon a Time”. As always David’s pieces look so much nicer in person than on email or website. This piece is no exception.

Uhf’s studio is now taking orders for David’s hand-signed, numbered, canvas giclee prints. Beautifully framed with a commemorative plaque of Sturgis. Each print comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Matching numbers are available for those who want to add this to their existing Sturgis Commemorative Collection. Motus Motorcycle Brand Featured On Jay Leno’s Garage

Alabama made Motus Motorcycles, America’s only premium brand of sport-touring motorcycles with proprietary V4 engines, is announcing that their 2 models (the MST and more premium MSTR) are now featured on the Emmy-winning series “Jay Leno’s Garage” hosted by Jay Leno (watch episode below this feature)

Motus founders Lee Conn and Brian Case were invited to Jay Leno’s Big Dog Garage earlier this month to tell Jay the story of how a small group of entrepreneurs set out in 2008 to make a motorcycle unlike any other.

Born out of a recession and developed with some of America’s most sophisticated engineering partners, Motus began shipping the world’s fastest production pushrod motorcycles to its network of US dealers in 2015. Motus also supplies its turn-key American V4® Baby Block® powertrain to other builders and OEMs around the world for marine, off-road, and other powersports applications.

“Jay is without a doubt a very knowledgeable and down-to-earth gearhead. He applauded our effort, particularly with developing our own engine,” said Brian Case, design director for Motus. “He’s a huge fan of our V4 engine and has known about Motus for a while.”

“Jay has a deep understanding of the rich history of American motorcycles and he helped us take a step back and appreciate where Motus fits into that lineage,” said Lee Conn, president of Motus. “This type of exposure is really important as we expand our dealer network and continue to spread our name and message out into the public eye”.

The episode featuring Motus gives viewers the chance to see what Jay thinks about the engine and motorcycle, including on-board commentary during his ride. “It was pretty surreal to be chasing Jay Leno through the LA canyons, all on motorcycles that we developed from scratch,” said Case.

Faster, Faster, Until The Thrill Of Speed Overcomes The Fear Of Death.

These words are from author, founder of the Gonzo journalism movement, counter culture icon and avid biker Hunter S. Thompson (1937-2005) They are in evidence on this awesome custom Triumph with which, no doubt, he would have fell in love for its mean look. Thompson even defined love as the feeling you get when you like someone or something as much of your motorcycle….

Built by Death Machines Of London (no, they don’t build motorcycles designed to cause death) and named “Up Yours, Copper”, this Triumph beauty was resurrected from the remains of a 2007 Thruxton 900i. In the words of shop owner James: “it was a bastard to create, one bloody thing after another. Newly finished tank got dropped, drill bits snapped, lathe broke, blood got spilt” and many other episodes to be forgotten.

First, the original frame got cleaned from all the factory tabs with all welds smoothed out and a brand new rear section being grafted. The Thruxton parallel-twin engine – the sportier version of the Bonneville powerplant, was fully rebuilt with hallmark Café Racer modifications including heads work and a remapping to suit a very interesting and unusual custom exhaust system. Velocity stacks are a thing of beauty with mirror polished interior surface, etched brass grills and DMOL logo inlays. For aesthetics, engine covers are powder coated and cam cover copper plated. At the Sturgis Dragway 3.7 miles East of Sturgis on Hwy 34 and North on Hwy 79 just short of a mile. Visitors will be able to watch Nitro Drag qualifying races for the finals on Monday. Shortly after 4pm on Sunday the track will open up to the FXR Show participants and there will be “Heads Up Grudge Match” drag races for anyone who wants to come out and play.

Held in Kent, United Kingdom, it’s the largest and greatest celebration of military vehicles and vintage lifestyle on the planet. Displays and rides on war tanks, cars, motorcycles, planes and helicopters. Demonstrations and training on the use of WW1 and WW@ weapons. A village with shops and displays to demonstrate the important roles that women played during war through voluntary organisations and work. A market where you can buy and trade vintage models. Professional re-enactors showing you how battles were fought, shooting and explosions included. Camping during 5 days to to soak up the full war atmosphere and not miss any of the events of this 5-day action packed show.

The only place where you can see GI’s having tea with Vietcongs, where British soldiers fraternize with SS-Troops to discuss the incidence of “Brexit”, where BMW motorcycles roam a prairie among Russian tanks etc. Harley WLA’s outnumber the German Zündapp’s and BMW’s, not to forget the Kettenkrad, once dubbed by Easyriders as the Nazi Chopper…You guessed it, the main objective of The War And Peace Revival is to keep war history alive in the collective memory especially now that a whole generation of those who fought these wars is fading away. Motographer Horst Roesler, a war history buff, is on location currently aboard a Spitfire fighting some imaginary ennemies. During a cease fire he was able to sent me these very cool pictures.
