Breaking News. Lehman Trikes To Close Its Spearfish, South Dakota Operation. Moving To California.

Lehman1Craig Arrojo, CEO of Champion Investments, owner since 2012 of Lehman Trikes, announced that the Spearfish manufacturing facility will close. The operation will progressively be moved during the next couple of months to a new 43,000-square-foot facility in Garden Grove, California.

Arroyo justifies his decision by the fact that the Spearfish location is isolated in the middle of the country, making exportation of its trikes to Asian markets more difficult and expensive. Steve McQueen’s 1915 Cyclone Sells For $775,000

1mcqueencyclone22mcqueencyclone3Last weekend at the Mecum Auction in Las Vegas, a 1915 Cyclone board racer motorcycle once owned by Steve McQueen sold for a cool $775,000. With a production run lasting only three years starting in 1913, the Cyclone has always generated a lot of excitement.

The 1915 Cyclone was part of the E.J. Cole collection and was restored by Stephen Wright, author of the ‘American Racer’ books. Cole purchased this Cyclone at the Steve McQueen Estate Auction at Las Vegas’ Imperial Palace in November 1984, where it was offered as Lot # 636. The combination of Steve McQueen and Cyclone is unique in the world, and it is by far the most interesting motorcycle that McQueen, the King of Cool, has ever known. The price paid of $775,000 eclipses the $551,000 sale in 2008 of a similar Cyclone that didn’t have the McQueen connection. Continue reading ‘Steve McQueen’s 1915 Cyclone Sells For $775,000’

“Running Across The Moon”. The Quest To Go Over 200 mph On A 125 cc Motorcycle.

The “Moon” is of course Bonneville. For the last 3 years, a filming crew follows the efforts of Scott Kolb to get a 200+ mph Land Speed Record on a 125cc motorcycle. It is estimated that it will take one or two more years to complete the project: both to succeed in the LSR attempt and to complete the documentary. The team is currently raising money, looking for tax deductible donations (through their sponsor, the New York Foundation for the Arts Artspire Program) for filming completion and post production. You can help by going to Run Across The Moon Donate. Watch this trailer, admire and respect Scott for his passion and dedication.

Custom Chrome Deluxe Harley Road Glide. Mile Eaters Welcome.

0RoadGlide1RoadGlide2RoadGlide3RoadGlide4RoadGlideThe US decade-long trend of big cruisers and touring bikes for baby boomers with disposable income is not over yet. But it’s only recently that the same trend is really perceptible in Europe. Not that the old continent is younger, but probably because of cost and because the roads and streets infrastructure is less appropriate to riding massive bikes. Exposed to what American builders are creating since several years from stock Harley Baggers, and thanks to some European after-market vendors who created their own custom touring body kits and parts, bikers from the other side of the Atlantic are discovering the joy of touring is style. And when you are a major distributor – in this case of both American & European born custom parts – you want to pre-empt this market as fast as possible. Joke Of The week

cyril-huze-joke44 - CopyThe Deaf Wife Problem.

Bert feared his wife Peggy wasn’t hearing as well as she used to and he thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family Doctor to discuss the problem.

The Doctor told him there is a simple informal test the husband could perform to give the Doctor a better idea about her hearing loss. ‘Here’s what you do,’ said the Doctor, ‘stand about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response.’

That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was In the den.   He says to himself, ‘I’m about 40 feet away, let’s see what happens.’   Then in a normal tone he asks, ‘Honey, what’s for dinner?’ No response. So the husband moves closer to the kitchen, about 30 feet from his wife and repeats, ‘Peg, what’s for dinner?’ Still no response. Sturgis city officials have announced there will be vendors and motorcycle shows and exhibitions in the Sturgis City Park during this year’s rally. Alabama Only State Not To Require Motorcycle License. Lawmakers To Change That. Alabama is the only state that doesn’t require a motorcycle license or motorcycle endorsement. A piece of legislation that would require motorcycle operators to obtain a designated license passed its first hurdle in the Alabama House. If passed this session, the new law would require drivers of motorcycles to pass a motorcycle operating test and obtain a Class M endorsement on their driver’s license or a Class M driver’s license beginning Jan. 1, 2016. The test would cost $5. The bill also authorizes police officers to write a ticket if you are riding a motorcycle without a license.

Although discreet on the show tour, Russell Mitchell at Exile Cycles is extremely busy creating custom bikes built from the ground up in a style that belongs only to him and also designing new bolt-on parts for customers opting for the Harley make-over. Russell tells me that half of his shop work is “scratch-built” bikes using his proprietary frames, the other half being Harley customization using his own catalog parts.

9Racy-Rocker-'11-LF-small6Racy-Rocker-'11-LF-smallYou are looking at his latest shop project, meaning a custom built on his own dime with complete freedom to complete the machine exactly the way he thinks it should be. It is Russell’s personal ride – at least until someone buys it out from under him. A custom he is very proud of because he consider it his best work for design and details. It is based on a 2011 HD Rocker FXCWC which he acquired with only 700 miles, whilst many of the parts used in the build are Exile custom bolt-on components complementing one-off custom metal fabrication work. It includes minimal fenders to look just right, a custom made steel seat-pan. a modified oil tank that has been shaped to perfectly match the lines of Exile 3” primary belt-drive. Handlebar Switch Wiring Harness To Run High Bars On 2014-Up Harley Baggers

namz1namz2After looking at the 2014 Bagger models, custom electric components company NAMZ realized that even with the new smaller sized 4-position handlebar switch connections, there should be an easier way to fish switch wiring through the bars, especially if you equip your Bagger with tall handlebars.

Their brand new, NHCX-CB14 CAN/Bus Handlebar Switch Wiring Harness is a simple and easy harness to fish through your handlebars. It is universal, 100% “Plug-n-Play” and replaces the shorter stock harness, allowing for up to 18” tall handlebars. No cutting, splicing or extensions needed. As far as I know, today it is the only way to put taller bars on a CAN/Bus 2014-Up HD bagger.

NAMZ/Badlands products are available through Drag Specialties, Parts Unlimited, Custom Chrome Europe, Mid USA, J&P Cycles, Bikers Choice, Zodiac, Motorcycle Storehouse, SK Imports, V-Twin, Les Importations Thibault, Rollies Speed Shop or directly from NAMZ Website 1-877-277-NAMZ (Bagger by Rick’s)

35 Custom Builders Bare All At 2015 Sturgis Michael Lichter’s “Naked Truth Exhibition”

Lichter1Feats of mechanical engineering showing the creative design skills of 35 Custom Builders will await you at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip®’s 2015 “Motorcycles as Art” exhibition presented by famed photographer Michael Lichter’s. Named “The Naked Truth” , 35 motorcycles representing 35 years of custom building will be featured in this exhibition laying bare the raw talent of 35 world-renowned bike builders. Some of these creations are specifically created for this exhibition. Each of these rolling metal sculptures will be displayed exposed and naked, unencumbered by paint and graphics, atop elevated pedestals to better give guests an open view from every angle. “Naked Truth” is free to the public and will be open from Saturday, Aug. 1 through Saturday, Aug. 8 in the Buffalo Chip’s Russ Brown Events Center.

Lichter2“Unlike any other exhibition before, nothing will come between the viewer and the bikes’ most basic elements of shape, form and design,” said Michael Lichter. “Each builder’s passion and talent will be revealed through the fine details of craftsmanship evident in every aspect of their work. The builders are exposing themselves, as well as their work, in this show. Without the cloak of paint or graphics, the bikes’ most basic form right down to it’s smallest details are naked and open to examination. There is no hiding behind a slick paint job, enhancing a line or curve with a brilliant graphic; the beauty comes strictly from the hand of the man who fashioned it.”

“Michael is the world’s premier motorcycle photographer,” said Buffalo Chip President Rod Woodruff. “He has been shooting bikes and the biker culture for more than 35 years, and his expertise and knowledge of motorcycle culture makes him the perfect person to curate the Motorcycles as Art exhibits at the Chip. We are honored to host his “Naked Truth” exhibition this year.” Continue reading ’35 Custom Builders Bare All At 2015 Sturgis Michael Lichter’s “Naked Truth Exhibition”’

The Lucky Cat SprintBeemer. The Custom Bike With 9 Lives.

beemerspirit1beemerspirit2beemerspirit3beemerspirit4A custom motorcycle is never finished. And if it’s a custom motorcycle for both show and race, the Lucky Cat Garage will tell you that it may take 9 lives to complete it. A bike to compete both in bike show competitions and on the track? The idea behind the SprintBeemer featured here was to build an impressive looking and very fast sprint bike (to race 1/4 & 1/8 mile sprints) based on a classic 2- valve boxer with a body and a paint scheme to disturb the competitor’ eye on the starting grid …

beemerspirit4bisbeemerspirit4terSo, dream, wrench, weld, machine, ride and repeat as many times you can dream an improvement. A first version was completed in 2013 and successfully raced at Glemseck 101 in Germany where it won the “StaRRwars” class and the best of show award. In 2014 the SprintBeemer was ridden or raced in festivals such as the Cafe Racer Festival, the European Hot Rod & Custom Show and the Wheels & Waves Rally. Then it was fully rebuilt with more muscle to race again at the 2014 Glemseck 101. Continue reading ‘The Lucky Cat SprintBeemer. The Custom Bike With 9 Lives.’

Indian Motorcycle Recalls Some 2015 Model Year Scout For Rear Brake Issue

Scout-black-static5Indian Motorcycle Company (Indian) is recalling certain model year 2015 Scout motorcycles manufactured May 12, 2014, to February 13, 2015. Due to a problem with the rear brake master cylinder, the motorcycles may have a reduction in, or a complete loss of rear brake power. A full or partial loss of rear braking power may lengthen the distance needed to slow or stop the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash. A machining or assembly error made by the component manufacturer may have located the piston retaining groove in an incorrect location. If this was made, the retaining ring would not be fully secured. The potential number of units affected is 806. The Adjustable Holy Shift. Shifting Gear Ergonomics Improved.

Holy-Shift-bisholyshiftThe ways we shift gears on a motorcycle didn’t change much during a century.

A step forward may be the Holy Shift, the world’s first and only shifter that adjusts on the fly to the individual rider …. and the size of his shoes.

Holy Shift addresses the shifting gear ergonomics in a way never done before. An interesting new product from Indie Crew Customs.

And when a video explains clearly, I don’t have much to add in writing.
