Joke Of The Week

A hooded robber burst into a North Dakota bank and forced the tellers to load a sack full of cash.  On his way out the door, a brave North Dakota customer grabbed the hood and pulled it off, revealing the robbers face. The robber shot the customer without a moment’s hesitation.

He then looked around the bank and noticed one of the tellers looking straight at him. The robber instantly shot him also. Everyone in the bank, by now very scared, looked intently down at the floor in silence.

The robber yelled, “Well, did anyone else see my face?” There are a few moments of utter silence in which everyone was plainly too afraid to speak. Then, one of the customers tentatively raised his hand and said “My wife got a pretty good look at you.”

Should Motorcycles Be Allowed Between Lanes of Traffic in Arizona? Bill Says Yes. Under a new proposed law, the practice could become legal in Arizona, making Arizona more like its neighboring state and many European countries. In 2015, a study by the University of California, Berkeley, found that lane-splitting is “relatively safe” when performed at speeds under 50 mph. Arizona Senator David Farnsworth, R-Mesa, recently introduced the bill for the coming legislative session, which begins in January. The bill, SB 1007, strikes out the clauses in statute that make lane-splitting, also known as filtering, illegal.

Joke Of The week

A young woman had been taking golf lessons.  She had just started playing her first round of golf when she suffered a bee sting.

Her pain was so intense that she decided to return to the clubhouse for help and to complain.

Her golf pro saw her come into the clubhouse and asked, ‘Why are you back in so early? What’s wrong?’

‘I was stung by a bee,’ she said. ‘Where,’ he asked. ‘Between the first and second hole,’ she replied. He nodded knowingly and said, ‘Your stance is too wide.’

Brough Superior. The New “Boutique” Motorcycle Manufacturer.

Boutique: the word is French for “shop”. The word boutique is associated with hotel since the 80’s to describe a small hotel which typically has between 10 and 100 rooms in a unique setting with upscale accommodations. And now we assist to the birth of what I coin “Boutique Manufacturers” producing a very limited number of expensive, high performance and superior quality motorcycles. Most are personalized to the customer’s need and tested on the road before delivery to make sure they meet model specification. Both, Arch Motorcycles in the US and the new Brough Superior in the UK/France already deserve to be called Boutique Manufacturers. With the rebirth of old brands in the pipeline in both the US, Europe & Asia, I bet that during the coming years quite a few other companies are going to follow this concept: offering a very personalized service to customers looking for a very individualized experience with a high end limited quantity model most often owning an iconic past or at least historic details. For a motorcycle lover, to be treated and respected as a friend of the brand, not just as a customer…

In 2008, vintage motorcycle enthusiast Mark Upham acquired the rights to the Brough Superior name. In 2013 he met in Toulouse, France, motorcycle designer Thierry Henriette who right away re-designed the famous Brough SS100 unveiled the same year in Milan. In 21 years of production (1919 to 1940), 3048 motorcycles covering a total of 19 different models have been produced by Brough. At this teat November EICMA show in Milan Brough CEO Mark Upham said “So far, we have delivered 90 S100 models to customers, but we have orders for several hundred more. We’ve held back on deliveries while we homologate the bike for Euro 4 compliance, but we’re nearly there. We have only the ABS feature to complete in partnership with Continental.” Retail price is announced at $59,900 euros (&69,999) + 20% VAT tax.

2 new Brough models were introduced during the same show in Milan. As a matter of fact, two versions with subtle differences of the iconic SS100. Called the Pendine S and the Pendine D, production will begins in April 2018 and surprisingly they will cost less than (TBA) the SS100. The original Pendine was introduced in 1927 by George Brough and had a manufacturer guaranteed top speed of 110 mph (180 km/h). They were SS100 based models but with higher performance modifications to the engine. Pendine Sands is the name of the Welsh beach that was Britain’s Daytona Beach in the 1920s, hosting many Land Speed Record attempts. George Brough gave the Pendine name to all his racing models from 1928 onwards. Continue reading ‘Brough Superior. The New “Boutique” Motorcycle Manufacturer.’

Performance Machine APEX Foot Levers For Harley Dyna And Sportster

Performance Machine offers several nice replacement choices when you are ready to replace your stock levers. The company took their successful APEX family design cues and engineered a set of foot levers for a true custom touch.

They are a direct replacement and quick install. Tacky pedal rubber for positive connection between rider and machine. Choose between three standard finishes of Quality Chrome™, Contrast Cut™ and Black Ops™. Fits 2006-2017 FXD and 2004-2017 XL

The APEX design family consists of a handful of custom, bolt-on parts to help bring a consistent aesthetic theme to your machine. This design was inspired by the old Hot Rod tradition of lightening parts by drilling holes for top speed results – but in this case PM modernized that theory to a slotted series of holes within a bevel in-cut. All Motorcycles To Be Connected?

During the latest EICMA show in Milan, the Vodafone Group, a British multinational telecommunication company with networks in 26 countries, was displaying this concept bike with the intention to attract attention to their mobile communication black box.

Next to the bike, a lettering panel explains that this Vodafone black box is a high-performance platform designed for the insurance and motorcycle industries to monitor driving behavior for driving score, safety pack, stolen vehicle recovery, diagnostics, etc…

Of course we are all on the side of improving riding safety. Our modern cars are already manufacturers equipped with this type of “spy” boxes. But I am somewhat skeptical when Vodafone’s slogan is “Once all vehicles are connected (to us) they can travel safely all the time”

I always considered cars and motorcycles as very different types of transportation with “freedom of the road” and its meaning being an almost exclusive attribute attached to 2-wheelers. Your next new bike may be delivered with an hidden black box of this type. To not lose your sense of freedom when you ride it, what information should be transmitted or not to the outside world? What is acceptable or not? What do you think?

Indian Army World Record

The Indian Army set a world record by carrying 58 men on a single bike. Members rode a 500 cc Royal Enfield motorcycle for a distance of 1,200 meters to make this new world record. The ‘Tornadoes’ broke the previous record of 56 men set in 2010 by the Army Signal Corps (Daredevils) from the Indian Army.

Flying Diamond. A Period-Incorrect Antique Born From A 2017 Harley Twin-Cam Model .

I know very well the 2 camps. Those who can only stand period correct antique bikes maintained with the purest restoration skills. And those for who designs and parts from the past are only a starting point for their interpretation of what should be a cool motorcycle. For a classic ride on a “Distinguished Gentlemen” type bike,  can both sides agree on a Harley of this type? A factory 2017 Softail Slim Twin Cam model combining 1930’s art-deco bodywork with the latest in Harley’s performance technology. Even if you are not a Harley-Davidson connoisseur, and for example are not able to identify the old bikes by their tank designs, it is fascinating to observe that the latest and most modern Harley-Davidson models can be “backdated” 80 years into the past by just changing a few parts and adding a period correct paint job…

Discounting a few minor details, this “antique styled” cruiser by bike official dealer Harley-Heaven Of Switzerland (Baeschli Customs) has been retro-styled with the use of only two or three major parts: front and rear fenders and solo leather saddlebag! What may have looked to you at first glance as a oldie is in fact Harley’s current 110 Cubic-Inch Slim model in a retro dress, the perfect roller for a Sunday gentleman ride.  This project is the fifth “one-off” in a series of seven “50th Anniversary Baechli” customs, and an outstanding example of what is possible with a modest number of custom parts bolted or adapted to a stock Harley.

“We wanted at least one classic or antique looking bike in the 50th Anniversary line-up of 2017-built custom bikes, because that’s what my father was famous for when he started the business in 1967. The rich history of Harley-Davidson has created some extraordinary and almost timeless designs on which you can create great custom bikes” states Rainer Baechli who is running today’s Harley-Heaven operation, a 4-floor dealership and customizing factory that is the biggest and most successful in Switzerland. “The inspiration for the project came from a picture of one of my fathers’ bikes, taken probably in 1980”, says Rainer. “The picture of a better-than-new restored 1947/48 UL Flathead was taken in front of the garages that acted as the first shop location in 1967. Indian Thunder Stroke 116″ Stage 3 Big Bore Kit

15% more torque and 20% more horsepower when compared to the stock Thunder Stroke 111″ engine. Outperform the competition at every stop light. Interested? It’s great performance upgrade for Indian’s Heavyweight Lineup. Priced in the U.S. at $1,999 plus installation, the new 116 Stage 3 Performance Kit will be available for order from dealers in December.

“The bagger landscape is seeing more and more emphasis on performance, with more riders looking to get on the throttle and carve corners as they would on smaller bikes, and that’s exactly what the Stage 3 Kit is about,” said Derek Meyer, Sr. Category Manager – Indian Motorcycle Accessories. “Indian’s roots are in performance, innovation and pushing boundaries, and this 116-kit is but one of a variety of new products riders will see from us moving forward, grounded in and driven by Indian’s performance DNA.” For more information visit Indian Motorcycle.

Additionally, the Stage 2 Performance Cams enhances throttle response and increases greater power across the powerband.

Norton Motorcycles Working On A 650cc Urban Tracker To Compete In Surging Midsize Market

In July 2017, Norton entered into a 20-year Design and Licence agreement with Zongshen Manufacturing of China for a new, 650cc twin-cylinder engine. The midsize market is surging all over the world and the twin-cylinder 650 cc segment is the most promising in the US, Europe and Asia.

Norton just revealed a 650 cc, a Scrambler that Stuart Garner told personally MotoFire they call an ‘Urban Tracker’ concept that may hit production towards the end of 2018. Quite appealing. But it doesn’t mean that Norton will be price competitive versus Royal Enfield, Triumph, Ducati and even Harley  in emerging markets. For example, Norton production is estimated at 1000 units against close to 1,000,000 for Royal Enfield….But Norton’s presence in the same category could define the premium reference for its rival in traditional global and emerging markets

New 1903 Collection From Harley-Davidson

Inspired from the simple, humble beginnings of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company in 1903 this new collection is born from the spirit of the H-D legacy infused with modern day technology and custom features. The 1903 Collection will continue to expand in the changing seasons. A few examples:

Constructed of lightweight cowhide, each of the Men’s Master Distressed Slim Fit Leather Jacket (P/N 98003-18VM, $395*) and the Women’s Wild Distressed Leather Biker Jacket (P/N 98017-18VW, $375*) are one-of-a-kind with a wax finish that is tumble dried and hand-sanded for a rough-and-tumble, vintage look.

Motorcycle jackets are as important to H-D as the road itself, so each jacket has unique treatments, precise laser-etched graphics and natural variations that add character to the jacket with every use. The natural variations and hand-finishing add to the truly authentic look and softer feel of the jacket. Its polyester taffeta lining, zippered cuffs and underarm grommet vents are matched with one horizontal interior pocket, a snap-down biker collar and studded snap epaulets.

The rare vintage “Oak Leaf” graphic makes an appearance on the Men’s Oak Leaf Plaid Slim Fit Shirt (P/N 99010-18VM, $85*). From the soft French terry hoodie to the pre-washed, hand-scuffed edges on the flannel shirt, great textures, authentic style and details cut across generations. Pre-loaded with worn and faded touches, both are available in S – 3XL sizes with a Slim Fit that is narrower throughout.

The new 1903 Collection is available in most Harley-Davidson dealerships and also available online at H-D.COM/1903
