On December 31, 2016, the Electric Motorcycle Federal Tax Credit – a 10% federal tax refund for new and used vehicles – is set to expire. Other “plug-in” State incentives would also disappear. Will they be renewed under the new administration?
Electric vehicle manufacturers, cars and motorcycles, are worried. ZERO Motorcycles, the global leader in electric motorcycle sales and technology is extremely concerned. To the best of my knowledge, Rick’s House Of Custom “Twenty Six” is the first custom Harley-Davidson Tri Glide featuring a 26” front wheel. Why doing such a makeover? Because a client asked, and it looks pretty good. And maybe many others will ask after seeing this feature. Especially after I mention that this Rick’s conversion is fully TUV approved in Europe, making it a very safe customization option in the US where regulations are much less stringent.
Although Harley-Davidson has been involved with 3-wheelers since a very long time – remember the delivery service cars and police trikes – it’s only recently that the Milwaukee manufacturer started to mass produce trikes for the general public. Actually, in 1971, Honda was the first major company to offer a 3-wheeler (The ACT90) for the general public, but it was an off-road vehicle. And it was a failure! During the 70’s, most trikes were garage built and not always reliable, or conversions using all types of motor platforms. Then, companies like Lehman, Roadsmith, Motor Trike and others realized there was a market and started to offer standard trike conversions for several make models. Harley-Davidson observed the evolution of the 3-wheeler market and eventually asked Lehman to produce its first H-D trikes. This 1937 Crocker Small Tank – serial number 36-61-8 – comes from the renowned collection of Dale Walksler’s Wheels Through Time Museum. Called as the “Duesenberg of motorcycles,” Crocker is the definitive American motorcycle – handmade, powerful and fast. What makes Crocker #8 even more special is the fact that this is one of the believed seven surviving Crockers constructed with the famous hemispherical heads. Very much a Hollywood “hot rod” bike, Crocker was created in and shaped by the culture of pre-WWII Los Angeles, California, by former Indian distributor Al Crocker. When it debuted in 1936, the upstart founder brazenly challenged world dominators Harley-Davidson, boasting of superior technology, performance, handling and raw power. As the story goes, Al Crocker famously advertised that if any of his bikes were ever beaten by a stock Harley, he would refund the owner’s money. No refunds were ever requested. As a bespoke machine, each Crocker was made to the specifications of its buyer. This expensive and time-intensive approach meant that quality remained high but production output low. Total Crocker numbers never exceeded more than 125 units before World War II and forced the firm’s closure. Today only around 50 of those units are accounted for, making Crocker motorcycles extremely rare. Just available from S&S Cycle, these proven performance kits don’t need any machining, any rebalancing. Just bolt on in pistons and cylinders (4” bore, 4 3/8” stroke) in place of the stock ones. Installation can be done with engine still in the bike!
Kit works well with stock cylinder heads, or let S&S CNC port those heads for even more power. The factory 1999-2006 Twin Cam engines will roll up to 100” and the 2007-later models (except 2017 touring models) will become 110” monsters.

“As a joke, my brother Jay used to hang a pair of panty hose over his fireplace before Christmas. He said all he wanted was for Santa to fill t hem. What they say about Santa checking the list twice must be true because every Christmas morning, although Jay’s kids’ stockings overflowed, his poor pantyhose hung sadly empty.
One year I decided to make his dream come true. I put on sunglasses and went in search of an inflatable love doll. They don’t sell those things at Wal-Mart. I had to go to an adult bookstore downtown. If you’ve never been in an X-rated store, don’t go, you’ll only confuse yourself. I was there an hour saying things like, ‘What does this do?’ ’ You’re kidding me!’ ‘Who would buy that?’ Finally, I made it to the inflatable doll section. I wanted to buy a standard, uncomplicated doll that could also substitute as a passenger in my truck so I could use the car pool lane during rush hour.
Finding what I wanted was difficult. ‘Love Dolls’ come in many different models. The top of the line, according to the side of the box, could do things I’d only seen in a book on animal husbandry. I settled for ‘Lovable Louise.’ She was at the bottom of the price scale. To call Louise a ‘doll’ took a huge leap of imagination. On Christmas Eve and with the help of an old bicycle pump, Louise came to life. My sister-in-law was in on the plan and let me in during the wee morning hours.
Long after Santa had come and gone, I filled the dangling pantyhose with Louise’s pliant legs and bottom. I also ate some cookies and drank what remained of a glass of milk on a nearby tray. I went home, and giggled for a couple of hours. The next morning my brother called to say that Santa had been to his house and left a present that had made him VERY happy, but had left the dog confused. She would bark, start to walk away, then come back and bark some more. The warranty is valid on any new tire up to the first 1mm of tread wear and covers normal road use only. Incorrect inflation, off-road use, racing and deliberate damage will invalidate the warranty.

For Victory Motorcycles Benelux I customized a Victory Vegas, Street Tracker style. The importer of the Victory motorcycles wanted an American touch, so we took Captain America as a source of inspiration. We did not want to overdo the theme bike thing so we kept it all within good taste (we hope).The wheels have the shape of the C.A. shield and the star on the shield is declined to the ignition cover, the custom made risers and the swingarm axle covers. Pipes, gas tank, race-ass and fairing, front end-stabiliser and handlebars are handmade by me, the owner of BBD chop shop, to create a much more aggressive stance. I kept the frame, motor, the wiring and front end stock. Goal of this built was to show people that giving the Victory a totally different look is not that difficult. All custom aluminum parts of this bike are made by Gator engineering in Holland, the seat upholstery is done by Leather Art, the paint job by Global. Beer from BBDesignz
“In case you didn’t already know, Badlands Motorcycle Products has been producing motorcycle lighting modules in the USA since 1990. The company was born in a small motorcycle shop in Reno Nevada and 27-years later, Badlands is owned and operated by Pennsylvania based company, NAMZ Custom Cycle Products. Since taking over the company back in December 2013, NAMZ has made some significant changes to the Badlands line of lighting modules.
What did the changes mean to you? One of the most noticeable changes was the re-engineering of each module. NAMZ spent about a year changing the platform for each module so they could speed up the manufacturing process. The new designs, now using the same mold and same circuit board helped to reduce machine time while simplifying the bill of materials and increasing our fill rates into the high 90’s. It also made for a near perfect module which already boasted a less than a 1% failure rate per 20,000 units sold!
Why is it important to be Made in the USA? Badlands was founded on the basic principle of being made with pride in the USA so that is what we have continued to do. Being Made in the USA allows us to better control the engineering and manufacturing processes which gives us increased flexibility for new module designs. We continue to grow the company by producing new modules for motorcycles from Indian, Victory and late model CAN/Bus Harley Davidsons. The most interesting custom builders may be those who don’t care at all about the “du jour” designing trends, and you can put Ken Nagai in this category. None of his creations can fit in any specific motorcycle category. This new project is a perfect illustration of his state of mind: “I don’t care what others are building.” Some will see a cruiser, others a bagger or a dressed FXR or…. Ken never follows any typical guideline, just building his ideas as a pure styling exercise, but never forgetting that he belongs to the motorcycle business, turning his one-off 2-wheelers into true road performers.
Ken Nagai owns his style, without any doubt influenced by the Wabi Sabi aesthetics of his native Japan, but re-examined with Western values. The Yugen (the not obvious) and the Datsuzoku (unbounded by convention) Japanese ideals combined with very refined details inspired by European automotive designs. Faithful to his philosophy “Details Create Style” Ken Nagai’s creations mix the old, the new and the unexpected.
