Filling the gap between the saddlebags and the rear fender to hide the exposed rear support brackets is one of the first customization jobs done on Harley Tourers.

The Harry Geer company from St Louis, Missouri specialized in motors and castings for air ships, then diversified into motorcycles in 1902. Last August 20, Indian Motorcycle Of The Twin Cities n St Paul, MN set an official record with the Guinness Book Of World Records for the Longest Parade of Indian Motorcycles in the brand history. At the same time, $171,000 (twice the amount of last year’s event) were raised for school supplies for Children and also for the Shadow Warrior Project helmed by Mark Geist. The event however didn’t go perfect with lots of rain, but determined riders saddled up anyway and completed the course to set the record. Celebrities who participated to the event included Danny Trejo aka “Machate”, Emilio Rivera, Rusty Coones and Max Martinez, all from the “Sons of Anarchy” tv series. The 2017 Indian Motorcycle Of The Twin Cities event will be one week long with more festivities, from August 15 to 21.

Last weekend, German Harley-Davidson Stunt Professional Rainer Schwarz performed his last “official” burnout and pyro show in front of a massive crowd at Rick’s Motorcycles/Harley-Davidson Baden-Baden, closing the annual Rick’s Motorcycle days and a 20-year stunt career. Rainer performed in all major motorcycle events in Europe and Japan. While his stunt performances are still in high demand, Rainer Schwarz claims age as the main reason for his retirement (add large insurance bills…) “I never had any real serious crashes, but at the age of 45, I feel it is time to retire and leave the scene for the “young guns” which sure will come. Owner of custom shop Old Empire Motorcycles Alec sharp will work on all types of bikes, without any particular style, but always pursuing the same objective. Build customs that can’t be associated with the trend of a specific period, that you will love to look at today, in 10, 20 or 30 years, etc., that will always keep their timeless appeal. This custom project was commissioned by a client looking for today’s reliability in an “Old Empire” cosmetic package. So, contrary to most of his other creations built on old donor bikes, the shop decided to work from a brand new SR400, privileging spending time improving the aesthetics and upgrading the components rather than restoring worn or broken parts or looking for period correct ones.
As with all great full blown custom motorcycles, the job started with stripping the bike to the bare frame and getting rid of all non-essentials. Only running gear, wheels, forks and intake system were kept for improvements. Frame modification was limited to carefully removing the rear frame rails at a specific point, then modeling with foam the two frame extensions that integrate the rear high sider led lights within. National Powersport Auctions (NPA) announced that Harley-Davidson Financial Services has agreed to participate in the V-Twin Motorcycle Auction at the American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo). This dealer-only auction will be conducted live on the tradeshow floor in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, October 13th at 3:30 pm EST. More than 100 motorcycles will go under the gavel at AIMExpo. The auction will be broadcast live from the showroom floor in Orlando and is open to dealers in attendance at the tradeshow and online via NPA Simulcast. In addition to bringing the live auction experience to dealers, NPA will also provide transportation assistance and incentives to help move bikes back to their dealerships.

More than 400,000 motorcycle enthusiasts are expected to head to Galveston Island Nov. 3-6th for the 15th Anniversary Celebration of the Lone Star Rally. Since it’s inception in 2001, the Lone Star Rally has grown from a well attended, regional-draw bike event to one of the nation’s biggest and most exciting motorcycle rallies. Hundreds of thousands of riders will cross the causeway to Galveston Island for four days of non-stop entertainment. This year’s rally will feature concerts day and night on two sound stages; a variety of juried bike & car shows; a bike rodeo games event; 100’s of vendors selling all things motorcycle culture; and, new this year. motorcycle beach races presented by Harley-Davidson.
A large part of what makes the Lone Star Rally so unique is its setting. Rally goers take in some of the most spectacular waterfront riding available along the Gulf, coupled with the picturesque architecture and bike-only accessibility of Historic Downtown Galveston. The Lone Star Rally manufacturer displays, vendor shopping areas and entire music schedule are free to the public. Locals are encouraged to come out and enjoy the event’s happenings and help celebrate 15 years of ROAR.
The rally kicks into gear early on Thursday, November 3rd, with a jam packed day of activities planned beginning with the Run Down the Shore ride presented by CycleSource Magazine (Registration noon-1 pm at Beach Central Park.) The motorcycle-racing world is mourning the loss of two promising young stars. Both died separate races this past weekend during the Santa Rosa Mile at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.
Twenty-year-old Charlotte Kainz died Sunday from injuries shortly after colliding with another racer who has only minor injuries. Kainz was a rising star who had just won her first event earlier this year. 17-year old Kyle McGrane of Pennsylvania died Monday from injuries suffered during his crash on Sunday.
AMA Pro Flat Track has set up a memorial fund for and Kainz and McGrane.
