Streamliner Motorcycle Concept

1bmw2bmw3bmwSome industrial designers work for a corporation for a specific project intended to be produced. Some, use their industrial design skills to promote their skills to an entire industry.

This motorcycle concept rendering belongs to the category of dreamy designs that probably will never be produced. It was created by a designer named Mehmet Doruk Erdem based in Istanbul, Turkey.

The BMW Streamliner is supposed to be a machine that could be raced on the Bonneville Salts and features the appropriate basic design characteristics to offer a minimum of air resistance. It looks very good and can be an inspiration for those racing, or simply for those who want to build an over-extreme show bike…

“I am pleased to report record sales and earnings for our 2015 first quarter, with sales up 16 percent, operating income up 19 percent and net income up nine percent, our 22nd consecutive quarter of record earnings performance,” commented Scott Wine, Polaris’ chairman and chief executive officer. “We outperformed the market again in most of our businesses in spite of increased competitive promotional pressures, weakening global markets and the corresponding negative effect from currencies. While we are justifiably proud of these accomplishments, we remain focused on seizing the numerous opportunities we missed to perform better. From factory inventory being too high to ongoing production inefficiencies, particularly in motorcycles, we did not perform to our capabilities or our expectations. However, we are making great strides towards addressing these issues, and I am confident those efforts will allow us to continue outperforming our markets.”

PolarisLogo1Motorcycle Sales increased 74 percent in the 2015 first quarter to $137.4 million. All three brands, Victory, Indian Motorcycle® and Slingshot, increased sales in the first quarter. Consumer retail demand for Victory and Indian Motorcycles during the 2015 first quarter, was up nearly 40 percent over last year’s first quarter, driven primarily by strong Indian Motorcycle retail sales, while first quarter North American industry heavyweight cruiser and touring motorcycle retail sales were up low-single digits percent from 2014. Only Long-Legged Riders Need To Read

ricks1ricks2If you have long legs and ride one of the new Dyna models, either the FX “Street Bob”, Fat Bob or Wide Glide you probably have some issues with finding a comfortable and relaxed riding position. Reason is of course the forward controls. No mass manufacturer can produce a motorcycle perfect for all biker morphologies. So, you have to turn to aftermarket custom part vendors.

These new Forward Control mounts are conceived to let you extend your legs on the Dyna Fat Bob, Wide Glide and also on the Street Bob with its mid-mount controls. They let you move your controls a solid 2.5” forward (more on Street Bob) without interference with the stock exhaust pipes. It’s the biggest move forward available among all other available extension systems. These brackets work with both stock of aftermarket controls. Harley-Davidson Reports First-Quarter Earnings. Profit Rises. Lower Sales Outlook Due To Competition.

HD0This morning April 21, before Wall Street opening, Harley-Davidson Inc posted a higher quarterly net profit, but lowered its sales forecast for 2015 citing aggressive price discounting by its competitors. After the results were announced, at 8.45 a.m. ET shares of Harley-Davidson (HOG) fell 7.80% in pre-market trading

HD11The company’s results were aided by cost controls and a lower tax rate, which helped offset lower sales and the impact of a strong U.S. dollar on its overseas revenue. Harley-Davidson reported net income of $269.9 million or $1.27 per share in the first quarter, up 1.5 percent from $265.9 million or $1.21 per share a year earlier. Analysts had expected earnings per share for the quarter of $1.25. Revenue for the quarter dipped to $1.67 billion from $1.73 billion a year earlier. That came in above analyst expectations of $1.58 billion.

HD22In the first quarter 1015, Harley-Davidson’s worldwide retail sales fell 1.1 to 56,661 motorcycles from 57,415 in the first quarter of 2014. Sales in its key U.S. market fell 0.7 percent to 35,488 from 35,730 motorcycles.

In a statement chief executive office Keith Wandell said that given the company’s retail results, and “ongoing, increased levels of aggressive competitive discounting” in the U.S. market “we are taking the precautionary step of lowering our estimated growth rate for full-year motorcycle shipments.” Harley-Davidson said it now expects motorcycle shipments to grow approximately 2 percent to 4 percent in 2015, down from its previous forecast of approximately 4 percent to 6 percent growth. In the second quarter, the company expects to ship between 83,000 to 88,000 motorcycles, down from 92,217 shipped in the same quarter in 2014. IndianScout1IndianScout2IndianScout44IndianScout5IndianScout6IndianScout77You can expect custom Indian Scouts to be built in all styles, from Cafe Racers to Bobbers to Board Trackers to … Off-Roaders… I am not convinced that this one has any true off-road abilities, but it rolls on military Jeep Willy tires. making it at least very different from what I have seen until now. Add a racing spirit coming from a shortened rear fender and lettered tempered glass plates. Factory headlight was replaced by a tiny powerful Heretic LED light., with original exhaust tossed and replaced by a skinnier diameter Arlen Ness system. Continue reading ‘Custom Indian Scout. X-Rays Reveals Inner Beauty Of Classic Motorcycles

Beauty is more than skin deep. The inner beauty of classic motorcycles is revealed in this series of x-rays by photographer Nick Veasy. How did it do it? Borrowing vintage motorcycles from a local bike club. Bringing them to his studio to be x-rayed via a powerful machine requiring for protection from intense radiation, to have his walls 30” thick and a lead door weighting 2700 lbs!
Each bike was shot in portions, from 35 to 50 x-rays for a full motorcycle, each shot being assembled to the others using Photoshop.

Nick Veasy is not a beginner at x-rays. He has done the same type of work with machine guns and airplanes (he shot 1000 pieces to get the x-ray of a full Boeing 777) He is currently building a mobile x-ray truck to travel to his x-ray subjects. Looking at these images, it’s the first time that x-rays bring a smile to my face.

Motorcycle Wheels. Is Royal Blue The New Black?

RenegadeNewtonWheelAlthough blue wheels have been used since a long time by many custom builders, blue production wheels were almost nowhere to be found until recently. After years of black wheels with “contrast cut” polishing, it looks like blue is the new color of the day for several wheel manufacturers.

Of course it will never be the dominant color of the custom motorcycle industry, but it’s a nice new offering now ready out of the box. Just hitting the market, the Renegade’s Newton Wheel is shown here in an intoxicating custom Royal Blue Phantom-Cut Finish. Continue reading ‘Motorcycle Wheels. Is Royal Blue The New Black?’

JIMS Creates The Lift Wheel Guide

jims1Jims2Today’s larger and heavier motorcycles, especially those with fairings, can be difficult to safely load onto a bike lift by only one person.  To solve this problem, JIMS now offers a guide to help the front wheel track into the correct position.

For use with Handy lift or equivalent, this device becomes the “buddy” that is needed to safely lead the motorcycle into the lift’s front wheel vice.  It may also work with wheel chocks in trucks or trailers used to transport motorcycles.  For more information visit JIMS USA or email at sales@jimsusa.com or call (805) 482-6913.

Triumph Motorcycles Claiming To Be Now Number One European Brand In North America

triumph1A record setting first quarter by Triumph Motorcycles America, which included the highest single day retail sales ever on March 31st, resulted in the company stating as being the top selling European brand in North America. The ranking is based upon motorcycle unit sales in the 500cc-plus on-road and dual-sport categories for the U.S. and Canada. The first quarter of 2015 ended with a more than 16% growth in retail sales over last year. This continues the steady increase Triumph Motorcycles America has been experiencing, as 13 of the last 16 quarters have seen year over year growth. Triumph didn’t provide the number of units sold in North America. The Company sold 54,432 units globally in 2014.

triumph2“The positive sales trend is only possible through the commitment of our retailer network,” said Matt Sheahan, COO of Triumph Motorcycles America. “The most recent quarter nearly doubles the units sold compared to just four years ago for the same quarter.” As a result of the recent achievements, the top performing North American dealers from 2014 are being rewarded by Triumph with an all-inclusive trip to the factory in Hinckley, UK. These dealers will then make their way to the Isle of Man for the TT races on June 6th. Continue reading ‘Triumph Motorcycles Claiming To Be Now Number One European Brand In North America’
