Queen Of California Digger Sportster
Published by November 24th, 2014 in Builders, Customs and Editorial.Arnaud Mary from Motorsports Garage is a big fan of Arlen Ness and of his typically Californian 70’s Digger motorcycles. After thinking of building one during no less than 8 years, Mary took the plunge and asked his good friend Tony of New school Garage to help him work the metal for a faithful-to-the-style San Francisco Bay Area Digger. One rule in mind. No interpretation, no distortion, no corruption of the original lines and of the typical parts making a Digger a true Digger. At minimum, it implied a long and low rigid gooseneck 7/8” tubes frame, a Springer front end, a “prism” gas tank, a “diamond” oil tank and a Weber carburetor. Breaking News. S&S Cycle About To Launch The Biggest, Baddest, Bolt-In Engine In Stock Touring Frame. The T143.
Published by November 22nd, 2014 in Customs, Engines and Events.Official launch will be spring 2015, but you see it here and I can give you a few details. First, a few words of caution from S&S Cycle VP of Product Development Scott Sjovall “This T143 engine fits in a stock frame, and starts really well, but it is really not for everybody! Frankly, it may scare the hell out of you if you don’t have experience with high performance engines. With this kind of power, you will definitely need a stronger clutch. I guess it boils down to this: It’s really a thinly disguised race motor. It’s noisier, has more personality, and you’re not going to get 100,000 miles on it…but it sure is fun!” Scott then added, “Be careful where you point it.”
Internally, S&S Cycle nicknamed it the “Big Shorty” But its official name is the T143 Motor, a Long Block engine of, 143 cubic inches. And it’s very bad: 162 horsepower and 151 ft-lb of torque. And it bolts into a stock 2008 and later bagger chassis with absolutely no frame modifications . The B3 heads were designed specifically for this engine, optimally locating the intake and exhaust ports while still providing the correct flow. The contour of the rocker boxes has been addressed to clear the frame. The T143 Long Block does not include a fuel system, but an intake kit is available that includes a special propriatary 70mm Throttle Hog throttle body with the special ports that mate up to the new S&S B3 cylinder heads and an S&S Stealth air cleaner. When The Featherbed Frame Revolutionized Motorcycle Construction.
Published by November 20th, 2014 in Chassis and Customs. There are large variety of motorcycle frames such as single down-tube cradle, half duplex cradle, full duplex cradle, perimeter, beam, trellis etc, each with different handling characteristics for different types of motorcycles. When the Featherbed frame was invented by Mr. Richard McCandless aka Rex, in the year 1949 for UK Norton Motorcycle Company, his intention was primarily to improve performance under the extreme stress of racing. The term Featherbed frame was coined by Mr. Harold Daniell (an Isle of Man TT racer) after trying out the new frame developed by Rex. He declared that it was like, “riding on a featherbed” when compared with riding a “garden gate” frame. Continue reading ‘When The Featherbed Frame Revolutionized Motorcycle Construction.’
Ducati Air Street Inflatable Jacket

But what is new is that a manufacturer like Ducati proposes it as an option when you buy their Multistrada model. Another fine example of a customized job done on a factory Harley Softail without altering the factory engine and driveline to produce a result you would expect from a bike built from the ground up. It’s currently the pride of King’s Road Customs (and of course of his private owner), the custom division of London based Warr’s Harley-Davidson, the oldest Harley dealer in Europe. A custom among many others built by Warr’s to be displayed later this year when the dealershipp celebrates its 90th anniversary with the opening of a new state-of the-art building which will house not only the main dealership and the custom shop but also the Warr’s Museum.
The Warr’s King Road Customs division was created in 2000 around a team of H-D trained technicians led by Charlie Stockwell, a guarantee for clients that their custom Harleys will keep the road reliability of the original production ones on which they are based. Preserving the official Harley-Davidson title associated with the bike is also a very big deal in Europe if you don’t want to take the risk of having your bike confiscated by the local police…
The only way to properly customize a factory bike (in this case a 2003 Softail Deuce) is always to first strip it down to bare frame, just keeping the front end and wheels to re-imagine it from the original chassis. Neck was slightly stretched and raked to give room to the replacement leaf spring front suspension. A standard Fat Boy gas tank was modified, creating symmetric recessed panels on which perforated aluminum plates were attached. Continue reading ‘Charging Bull Softail Deuce’

Erik Buell Racing And Hero MotoCorp Working On Small-Displacement Motorcycle Line-Up. How small can be an EBR bike? Last summer, Indian motorcycle manufacturer Hero MotoCorp bought a minority stake in Erik Buell Racing. A great source of financing for EBR to support its manufacturing and dealers expansion, here and abroad, but also an opportunity for Hero MotoCorp to tap into the expertise of EBR for design and technological innovations to conceive new small displacement models for the Asian market. Everybody in the industry knows that there is a huge potential worldwide for small bikes from 350 to 750 cc’s, And of course, without turning its back to quality sport and street bikes, EBR is also interested by the Hero powerful logistic to enter this market. How a small displacement EBR bike will look? We may know in the next 12 moths or sooner. Now, imagine Harley and EBR competing in this segment. Not only in Asia but maybe also in the US.
Mercedes Will Reportedly Begin Selling MV Agusta Motorcycles At Selected AMG Performance Centers. As I reported, Mercedes purchased a 25% stake in the Italian motorcycle manufacturer MV Agusta. The justification? Cross-marketing opportunities. Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said “Mercedes AMG customers have a lot in common with MV Agusta customers so it makes sense to market to both of them.” Zetsche is now revealing that Mercedes has no interest in becoming a motorcycle manufacturer, won’t decide which engines are used in MV Agusta, but will sell the motorcycles at selected AMG dealers to increase their showroom traffic.
