Riderless Motorcycle On Paris Highway

French drivers got scared seeing a “ghost” motorcycle steadily traveling along a French highway. But there is an explanation behind the video of this riderless bike. The owner had been knocked off his motorcycle in a crash just before this video was shot. The rider, who suffered an arm injury, was told by police that his motorcycle was recovered very far away from the crash site… (the comment is just about a French driver describing what he saw)

New Ignition Wires From Twin Power

“These new Twin Power Ignition Wires won’t cure cancer, but they will deliver good, reliable spark at a fair price,” says James Simonelli, Brand Manager for Twin Power. “V-Twin motorcycles are the heart and soul of America’s motorcycle industry. There’s no better way of showing the pride you put into your motorcycle than by using American made parts!”

The ignition leads are 8.65 mm. thick with 500 OHMs/Ft. of resistance. The Kevlar® core has been reinforced with fiberglass strands for additional strength, then covered with a layer of EPDM and a layer of braided tape for flexibility. Mag wire ensures conductivity and eliminates  RFI (radio frequency interference) and noise with an outer jacket of high-quality silicone that also provides heat resistance and extends the longevity of the wire set.

The ignition wires feature a silicone distributor and spark plug boots that are used to help dissipate the heat. The terminals are stainless steel which reduces potential corrosion. Each ignition lead is built with SAE J2031 class E rated cable for heat protection of 450º F. Each set includes a packet of dielectric grease to prevent arcing, keep moisture out and prevent corrosion. Also included are two miniature cable ties.

The new Ignition Wires (P/N 110112 to 110119) are available exclusively from Twin Power and retail for $20.95. This includes direct fit sets for most popular Harley-Davidson® models and universal sets for custom applications. They can be ordered through your local Tucker Rocky | Biker’s Choice dealer. NUVIZ. A New Technology To improve Your Riding Experience,

NUVIZ is the first all-in-one motorcycle Head-Up Display (HUD) with integrated navigation, communication, camera and music in a single device. A New technology to improve your riding experience and frees you of all devices. It’s a compact and intuitive Head-Up Display (HUD) that incorporates all the device functionality you need on your daily ride. It includes navigation, photo and video capture, communication and access to your music. All of this is easily controlled with a wireless controller mounted to your handlebars, allowing you to keep your eyes on the road. Bringing several devices together allows motorcyclist to maintain control without distraction.

The fully-integrated Head-Up Display (HUD) is designed to be added onto a motorcyclist’s full-face helmet and displays customizable information near the rider’s natural line of sight. NUVIZ seamlessly brings together all of the important functions of motorcyclist’s navigation, communication and media players into a single device, allowing riders to stay connected, but not distracted. NUVIZ includes a built-in HD action camera and a wireless handlebar controller that ensures intuitive control of all functions.

The NUVIZ device is compatible with most existing traditional full-face helmets, allowing riders to choose which helmet brand best serves their style, needs and fit. The device attaches to a low-profile baseplate and adjusts to the user’s right eye in a manner that still allows for small tweaks after installation for the ultimate view. The baseplate is designed to allow the device to detach in the case of an accident or fall. NUVIZ will focus on their unique technology without the redundant development of designing market-specific helmets. The HUD combiner optic is fully replaceable in case of damage. Additional accessory mounting kits allow for one NUVIZ device to transfer to different helmets and controllers to different motorcycles.

Once mounted to the helmet and aligned to the user’s eye, the advanced NUVIZ optics create a virtual image that “floats” just in the periphery of the eyesight, reducing eye movements and the need to re-focus inside the motorcycle’s cockpit. This integrated all-in-one system removes the cockpit clutter of multiple devices, and allows a rider to move from motorcycle to motorcycle with a single helmet-mounted solution. Adventure motorcycle riders, who often stand while riding, will enjoy consistent access to all their important information without having to look down into the cockpit. Powered by NUVIZ, riders can take charge of their riding experience and interact seamlessly with all of these different technologies in one easy-to-use device.

NUVIZ pairs with a dedicated smartphone app available via the App Store and Google Play, allowing riders to plan routes and save favorite rides, instantly access photos captured with NUVIZ, or view riding stats tracked with NUVIZ’s comprehensive set of sensors. The NUVIZ app will also allow users to share their rides, discover new routes, record ride data, and edit and upload photos instantly via social media. The NUVIZ app allows for easy updates and the addition of new features as they are added, further improving the rider experience. Continue reading ‘NUVIZ. Harley-Davidson Planning 115th Anniversary Celebration For Labor Day Weekend 2018

“Mark your calendars for Labor Day weekend in Milwaukee,” Levatich said. “We’ll have a big celebration.” Additional details will likely be announced in August, he said.

Previous Harley-Davidson anniversary celebrations in Milwaukee have been huge, multi-day events attracting thousands of Harley riders from all over the world for numerous activities around town. The event provides a significant boost in business for area hotels, bars, restaurants and attractions. Harley typically books big-name performers for the celebration at Maier Festival Park. In 2013 for the 110th anniversary, the headliners included Aerosmith, ZZ Top and Kid Rock.

Meanwhile, much of the company’s annual meeting focused on the company’s 10-year strategy announced earlier this year. The plan includes attracting 2 million new riders in the United States, launching 100 new “high-impact” motorcycles, growing the international business to 50 percent of the company, providing return on invested capital in the top quartile of the S&P 500 and not growing the company’s environmental impact. “As a clear market leader, we have both the obligation and the opportunity to invest to secure the long-term vitality of motorcycling,” Levatich said.

The Blacktrack BT-02 Thruxman. Inspired By The Iconic Manx Norton.

I have always been convinced that the best custom motorcycle builders would be as talented at designing very different types of products belonging to different industries. Sacha Lakic is a designer pursuing simultaneously, with international success, different projects in the area of transportation, architecture, contemporary furniture, photography, etc. But his lifelong personal obsession with motorcycles pushed him to launch Blacktrack Motors to create motorcycles “built with passion and fueled by emotion”… More specifically stripping down classic motorcycles to the bare essentials and bringing them up to date with contemporary components. Practically, engineering machines designed for riders that are dissatisfied with modern motorcycle design , but who are seeking for modern day safety.

For this contemporary Cafe Racer project, Blacktrack Motors tapped into the DNA of one of the most famous racing motorcycles, the Manx Norton. So, what is a Manxy? Built in Birmingham, UK from 1950 to 1962 in 350 to 500 cc sizes, this was Norton’s GP-spec race bike. Its unmistakable advantages were the innovative Featherbed frame giving the Manx a significant competitive advantage through a low centre of gravity and short wheelbase, the swingarm rear suspension, the robust DOHC engine, and extremely high quality components,. all making this motorcycle perfectly suited for the extremely challenging island TT course, Continue reading ‘The Blacktrack BT-02 Thruxman. RSD Concept Board Tracker Build. Illegal. Inconvenient. But It’s A BMW And Will Fire Up Every Time And Run Forever…

A huge fan of everything BMW Mottorad wants a top of the line bike for display in one of his business stores. He ordered it to Roland Sands, mentioning that it doesn’t matter if the bike is not completely legal or practical. Most importantly, gorgeous, with a boardtracker inspiration design and firing up and running at first try, like a BMW motorcycle…

The donor bike is the R Nine T conceived by BMW as a modular concept bike for the highest degree of customization possibilities. But difficult, when you are a great custom builder and former racer like Roland Sands, to build a bike only for show. Let’s say that on this special project he could relax on some legal matters regarding safety a legality.

This concept build required much more than a beautiful redesign of the factory bodywork and the addition of cool custom accessories. The RSD crew had to cho the frame neck, raking out the front end for the 21” front wheel to be accepted inside the stock forks. As always when adding the bpardtracker look to any bike, a brand new rear section had to be fabricated with GP suspension package. In the front, no brake. An upgraded one in the rear.

Remaining tasks were to clean the R NINE T from what Roland Sands would never keep installed on any of his own riding bikes. Lots of factory BMW parts ditched, some replaced, but not all with new RSD custom parts conceived specifically for this model and to be released in a new “Machined Line” series catalog

Joke Of The Week

Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it’s important to keep mentally alert. So, it’s time again for Baby-Boomers to take our annual senior test. Here is a very private way to gauge how your memory compares to your last test. Some may think it is too easy, but the ones with memory problems may have difficulty. Take this test to determine if you’re losing it or not.

Don’t look at the answers until you finish this text. The correct answers after the jump.

1Q. What do you put in a toaster ?

2Q. Say ‘silk’ ten times. Now spell ‘silk.’ What do cows drink?

3Q. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a greenhouse made from?

4Q. Please do not use a calculator for this for it would be cheating. You are driving a bus from New York City to Philadelphia. In Staten Island, 17 people got on the bus. In New Brunswick, 6 people get off the bus and 9 people get on. In Windsor, 2 people get off and 4 get on. In Trenton, 11 people get off and 16 people get on. Autotalks. A New Bike-To-Vehicle (B2V) Technology to Prevent Motorcycle Accidents.

A considerable proportion of the drivers involved in an accident with a motorcycle claimed that they did not even see the motorcycle approaching. Motorcycles are characterized by their relatively small size, high speed and maneuverability, which make it difficult to identify them and predict their movements. Autotalks, the world leader in V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) communication solutions, is launching its bike-to-vehicle (B2V) solution, a technology for the prevention of motorcycle accidents. The solution is based on the B2X (Bike-to-Everything) chipset developed by the Israeli company.

Bosch, as a leading global supplier of technology and services, announced on May 23 that it is carrying out a development B2V study that incorporates Autotalks’ B2V technology alongside Ducati’s motorcycles and Cohda Wireless’ software stack.
The company also said that according to Bosch accident research, the B2V technology could prevent nearly a third of all powered two-wheeler accidents with casualties in Germany. Continue reading ‘Autotalks. A New Bike-To-Vehicle (B2V) Technology to Prevent Motorcycle Accidents.’

Flat Track Racing. Indian Motorcycle Racing And The Scout FTR750 Remain Undefeated After 7 Races.

Jared Mees’ first place finish now ties him with fellow Indian rider Bryan Smith at the top of the points pole with 152 apiece, and continues Indian’s streak of securing at least two podium placements in each race this season. The Scout FTR750 and Indian Wrecking Crew proved resilient during the first race in which Indian was nearly knocked off the top position. Mees employed the strategy of mile expert Smith by drafting from second position only to pull a last second outside pass on the final lap to inch out Sammy Halbert by 0.013 of a second for the checkered flag. Indian’s Brad Baker and Smith duked it out throughout the race to finish third and fourth respectively.

Mees is now the only rider in the series with a perfect podium record intact on the season. Although tied atop the points standings, Smith holds the tie-breaker with four wins to Mees’ three. Baker, who took third at Red Mile, sits in fourth with 92 points, 17 points off third place. Continue reading ‘Flat Track Racing. 2017 Super Rally In The Czech Republic. May 31-June 4.

Something to know for those who like the story behind all major rallies. The official name ]is the FH-DCE Super Rally®, is a trademark owned by 35,000 members and 120 totally independent Harley clubs from all over Europe. The rally/organization is even the only one in the world allowed to use the name and logo of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Each year, a different European country is in charge of organizing the rally.

Last weekend rally (May 31-June 4) in the Czech Republic city of Pasohlavky,  looked like a huge campground (12,000 registered campers) around a lake, with only Harley-Davidson, Buell and Indian motorcycles (including the new ons) authorized to enter it….Most participants are long distance riders traveling in small groups from their native countries. At the same time the country became the most stable and prosperous of the post-Communist states, the Czech Republic saw a rapid growth of the motorcycle industry and consequently, of the custom scene. An industry still in its infancy versus other West European countries, but already a major manufacturer of custom motorcycle parts for the rest of Europe. A few views of the event. (photos @ H. Riding Into motorcycle History

On Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20, 2017, the 18th Annual Riding Into History event took place at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida. Hundreds of antique, vintage, and custom bikes from all over the country were on display. Faithful reader, master photographer John E. Adams whose work has always involved everything in steel on 2 and 4 wheels, was on location with his point and shoot camera to produce, after some pixels manipulation, the wonderful set of images featured here. He gifted me his work to share with you. Enjoy.
