Watch Out For Motorcycles Before Changing Lane

On a four-lane LA freeway a Toyota pulls across into the lane reserved to carpool vehicles and motorcycles. A Harley biker has no time to stop and smashes straight into the back of the car. As he hits the car he moans: “Oh f**k” and is thrown on to the moving vehicle. He posted this amazing video in the hope of promoting driver awareness.

The American Flat Track  community is mourning following the tragic passing of American motorcycle racing legend Nicky Hayden and sends heartfelt condolences to the Hayden family.

That same year, as a privateer, he won the AMA Supersport championship and was subsequently named the AMA’s Athlete of the Year.

Over the next three seasons, Nicky perfected his craft on American dirt tracks and road courses, grabbing five more GNC victories and winning the DAYTONA 200 en route to capturing the 2002 AMA Superbike championship. The Adventures Of Sparky And Clutch. Episode 9. The First Breakdown (Part 3)

Electric Motorcycles. How Should They Sound?

All major brands have spent the last decade focused on bridging the generation gap between loyal boomer customers and new millennial fans by offering customized bikes like the Harley “Dark Customs” line up. More or less successful at it, at least they have proved that they can grow simultaneously in multiple generational directions . And because the motorcycle industry expects a heightened competitive environment to continue for the foreseeable future, these same brands are rushing to offer an even more diverse line-up in which electric motorcycles are expected to be a new and very fast growing “sub-range”

In 2014, Harley-Davidson presented “Project LiveWire, its first-ever electric bike, and received an overwhelmingly positive feedback for design, acceleration (claimed 0-60 mph in 4 seconds) and handling, although negative reactions remained for riding range and regenerative braking system. For sure, motorcycle market disruption is coming. The electric vehicle manufacturing technological revolution is going on at full speed and new more compact and efficient batteries point to the possibility of all major brands launching their new affordable /performance electric models around summer of 2021.

Agreeing that obviously electric motorcycles do need to make noise to make their presence known, at least for security reason, one of the main points of discussion is how they should sound? Until now, all currently produced or concept electric motorcycles make jet turbine engine sounds. Harley gas powered bikes create that unique “potato-potato-potato” chugging growl and the Milwaukee manufacturer would like its electric LiveWire bike to produce its own very unique recognizable jet fighter sound. So, do you think that each electric motorcycle brand should have his own unique signature sound? To the point that it could be marketed by some as a status symbol of the brand you ride? A la Tesla? Imagine all possibilities from the sounds of this F-22 Raptor.

In Memory Of Client And Friend Paul Gren 1964-2017

“About 10 years ago, Cyril created the bike you see here for a man who became a great friend to me. We met after the bike was delivered to Paul Gren, here in Longwood, Florida. There were some teething pains, and Cyril asked if we could sort them out for Paul, which we did. The bike is typical Cyril Huze art! A bobber based on a Chica frame, with cool touches everywhere, a great TP engine, a hand tooled seat and an amazing paint job by Chris Cruz (long before Fairless could spell Graffiti!).

Paul and I became fast friends and put many miles on our customs together. We went many times to Easyrider bike shows on the east coast, to custom shows in South Florida and local bike nights many. These are memories I will never forget. I lost track of Paul for a number of years as time and life changes often do to people, until about 2 months ago. Paul showed up with this bike and his wife’s Softail. Both covered in dust having been ignored for over 5 years. Needless to say, we got them both running and shined up nicely, and I got some time with my old friend.

Two days ago, at Paul’s Tow Company yard, someone who parked illegally and could not afford his tow bill, shot Paul at point blank range! To think that my friend, a husband and father of three at only 53 years old was killed by an a**hole over a car is unfathomable!

Our hearts go out to Kim, his lovely wife, Eva, Jake, Alex his children and everyone who will never get to share another smile with this gentle man. The motorcycling community has lost a great friend! Godspeed Paul.”

Harley-Davidson And Wounded Warrior Project Surprise Veteran With New Bike To Launch Mission “Thank you”

Harley-Davidson has teamed up with Adam Sandoval – the founder of ScootinAmerica, an initiative that focuses on giving back to our military members – to launch MISSION: “THANK YOU”. MISSION” “THANK YOU” launched at San Diego Harley-Davidson yesterday morning. Harley-Davidson and Sandoval worked with Wounded Warrior Project to honor a WWP alumnus and veteran from San Diego with a new Harley-Davidson powered by the  Milwaukee-Eight engine. Shane Kruchten, the surprised recipient and U.S. military veteran, was in shock and full of gratitude learning about his new Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Kruchten is the first of eight honorees that will get bikes this year. Sandoval is asking every American to nominate a military member – past or present – who has dedicated their life to protecting our freedom by submitting their story of sacrifice, strength and courage of service. His cross-country MISSION: “THANK YOU” aims to thank those who have served, and are serving, to protect our freedom by giving away eight Harley-Davidson motorcycles powered by new Milwaukee-Eight engines. A panel consisting of Sandoval, Wounded Warrior Project representatives and Harley-Davidson leadership will select which seven other deserving military members will be honored with new motorcycles. The honorees will also receive a lifetime membership to the Harley Owners Group and they can give a free Harley-Davidson Riding Academy class to a loved one.

Based on America’s nominations, Sandoval will make seven special stops along his cross-country journey to give away the new Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Follow the mission on Adam Sandoval Rides  or follow Adam’s journey on Facebook or Twitter.

Precision Accents And Covers All Over Your Harley Milwaukee-Eight Engine

Kuryakyn introduces the first complete line of bolt-on engine covers designed exclusively for Milwaukee-Eight models. The Precision line of accents and covers showcases modern and muscular designs to emulate internal movements of the engine and transmission. “Historically we designed our engine chrome components to be used together,” said Kenny Ladoucer, Kuryakyn category manager. “If you didn’t buy a certain piece, it looked like something was missing. The Precision System is different in that each part can be integrated independently, pieced together over time, or used to target specific areas of the motor to create a visual impact.”

The collection includes groupings of unique covers and accents that bring the same powerful appearance to often-overlooked areas of the engine block. Focus areas include the cylinder base, inner primary, tappet block, transmission and starter, as well as the voltage regulator, coolant pump for liquid-cooled models, and oil cooler, among others. Previous iterations of Kuryakyn engine covers have incorporated the use of VHB adhesive for installation. Everything in the Precision line is bolt on, creating a more uniform aesthetic with the motor while also reducing the hassle of removing and re-installing parts for service maintenance.

“Kuryakyn has established a reputation for developing engine covers,” said Industrial Design Manager Michael Bates. “When we got our hands on the new Milwaukee-Eight, we knew this was going to be an incredible opportunity and journey for our team. We paid close attention to the original inspiration behind the design, and then pinpointed opportunities to make the look more complete. What we added incorporates the same muscular styling cues found throughout the engine. There aren’t many projects that consume our whole team, and the entire Kuryakyn Product Development group played a role in all phases of creating the Precision collection. We’re incredibly proud to see this line of parts hit the market.”

The Precision Collection is now available through Kuryakyn and its worldwide dealer and distributor network. The majority of components are currently offered in premium chrome finish, with a handful of select pieces also available in black. KTM Reveals World’s First Fuel-Injected Two-Stroke Motorcycles

KTM has unveiled two new two-stroke Enduro bikes. Both bikes use transfer port injection technology and are the world’s first (not road legal) fuel-injected two-stroke motorcycles. The new Transfer Port Injection is a system which essentially uses two injectors to feed fuel into the transfer ports of the cylinder, mixing it with the flow of air and oil supplied through a throttle body. This new system is said to make the engine smoother to ride, with a drastic reduction in fuel consumption and removing the need to pre-mix fuel or changing the carb jetting for different environments. The new ECU uses a number of sensor readings to determine perfect ignition timing and fuel injection.

Both bikes have hi-end equipment, including fully adjustable WP suspension, Brembo brakes and a lightweight steel alloy double cradle chassis. The new models meet the latest emission norms and are Euro 4 compliant. Pricing for the new bikes haven’t been announced yet and are expected to be available by June. More importantly, it underlines the fact that two-stroke engines can be environmentally friendly. What remains to be seen is whether KTM will be rolling out road-oriented two-stroke powered models in the near future. 2016 National Motorcycle Thefts Up 2%. California Leading For Stolen Motorcycles.

The Annual Theft Report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau )NICB) shows the number of bike stolen rose 2% nationally in 2016. A total of 46,467 motorcycles were reported stolen, up from 45,555 in 2015.The largest number per State disappeared in California, where 7,506 motorcycles were reported stolen compared with 4,482 stolen in Florida and 3,692 in Texas. New York, San Diego, Las Vegas and Los Angeles are the most-plagues cities. , while Los Angeles County is the top county.

Logically, the NICB report confirms that the bulk of motorcycle thefts occur during the summer months, when more bikes are on the street and when more people enjoy riding. August is the top month, when almost twice as many motorcycles were reported stolen than in December or January. Some bikes are more popular targets than others or are simply easier to steal. A disproportionate number are Japanese models.

The Watercolors Of David Uhl. Exhibition “American Realism. A Survey” In New York City.

I am lucky enough to know most of the best motorcycle artists around this world and I must say that very few have such artistic ability and sincerity as David Uhl when he expresses his love for vintage motorcycles through oil on canvas paintings. But as well known as he can be among his fellow artists and in the motorcycle world, very few know that the “Harley-Davidson Norman Rockwell” is also a very fine watercolorist portraying those who illustrate and re-define today’s old school motorcycling scene. And I am happy to report that David will join his world’s best fellow watercolorists in an exhibition “American Realism. A Survey” in New York City from May 18 to June 16, 2017 at the Gerald Peters Gallery, 4 East 78th Street New York, NY 10075. Tel 212.628.9760. The Royal Enfield Continental GT 750 has the chassis from the Royal Enfield Continental GT, but it gets an extended sub-frame which means that some design changes are likely for the more potent model.

The 750 cc variant gets clubman handlebars unlike the 535 cc variant, which features clip-on handlebars. The rev count in single digits suggests this model is probably an international-spec test mule, as in the Indian-spec 535 cc varian the tachometer with rev counts in tens digits.

Industrial Design Harley Softail By One Way Machine

Mechanical engineer, innovative thinker, designer and owner Julian Of Oheimb at One Way Machine is quite obsessed at the idea of climbing each year the podium of the AMD World Championship of Bike Building, and this as long as this show competition exists… Starting in 2013, it happened to him 3 years in a row, quite a feat in the custom world, always in the same “Modified Harley-Davidson” class where he excels at turning factory H-D’s models into rideable, usually elegant and nostalgic sleds.

As all riders and customizers know, rebuilding a genuine Harley from the ground up is a very costly proposition due to the parts already paid at purchase, but rarely re-used for the final project. For cost, better find a Harley as old as possible and for reliability with the lowest engine miles if you don’t want to spend money for a full re-built.

So, Julian activated his friends in the the US Harley dealers network, asking them to find the perfect as cheap as possible Harley donor bike. Just after 3 months of wait, he hit the perfect professional customizer jackpot: a 2001 Softail Standard in an almost perfect condition with only 1,400 original miles that he immediately had shipped to his shop in Germany.

Julian turned it into a perfectly organized pile of factory parts either to be discarded or modified, and devoted the first days of this project to clean the frame and swingarm from all its unuseful brackets and smoothing them out of all the unappealing factory welds. Second most important step was of course to mechanically boost and cosmetically improve the carburated H-D engine and tranny. Continue reading ‘Industrial Design Harley Softail By One Way Machine’
