3 Custom Motorcycle Builders. One Passion Or Addiction. The Road To Mama Tried.

Three builders, three styles, one passion. Bike & Builder: the Road to Mama Tried is a new series from the creators of Choppertown. Far from the standard reality TV format, this show takes viewers into the minds and hearts of three very different custom motorcycle builders from across the USA as they prepare their newest creations for the Mama Tried Motorcycle Show in Milwaukee, WI. Running time: 3 episodes, 27 minutes each Format: 1080p HD

1st Episode. Scott Jones loves going fast. He loves building bikes that go fast. His obsession almost ruined him. He’s the first person to tell you that building custom motorcycles for a living isn’t the easy path to riches, but with the right woman behind you anything is possible. By day he works 9-5 helping to pay the bills, at night he wrenches, and on weekends he becomes a superhero. Join Scott at his home shop in SoCal where he builds one-off monsters for the road and track and take a front row seat as he enters the Hooligan fighting pit with his Harley sponsored Noise Cycles racing team.

2nd. Episode. Jeff Cochran builds bobbers. Stripped-down, kick-ass bobbers. Widely known as co-founder of Sucker Punch Sally’s, he now works from a private shop in rural Indiana building his special brand of choppers for the working man. He approaches each build with a jeweler’s eye and has his shop set up like a one-man factory assembly line. In this episode of Bike & Builder take an intimate voyage with Jeff into the shop of your dreams.

3rd Episode. Keino has a vision. One of the last true metal shapers, he creates his visions in his mind and hammers them into existence. But having vision isn’t enough, it takes sacrifice, and work. It takes the passion and drive to leave the land of your birth and head to a country where you don’t speak the language, to take classes in something you know nothing about, to seek out an internship at a shop where you only survive by proving you worth, and finally, maybe you get to study under a master. Keino’s work with Indian Larry is now the stuff of legend. That time is now past. Join him as he takes you inside his mind and shows you what he has in store for the future.

Duration: 1 hour 23 minutes. Subtitles: English, English (United States) Availability: Worldwide. Buy all for $9.99. Order here at Bike And Builder. The Road To Mama Tried.

Robbie Knievel Next Jump Slated Nov. 11 in Florida

Daredevil Edward “Robbie” Knievel, son of late stunt performer Even Knievel, will attempt his next jump in Palm Bay, Florida, November 11, 2017. It is reported that he will try to jump over a line of Harley-Davidson motorcycles at a length of about 30 cars… Robbie Knievel successfully jumped 30 golf carts in Palm Springs, California, on Oct. 24, 2015. Knievel, 55, says the Palm Bay event will be the longest jump he’s completed. The event is being organized in collaboration with Space Coast Harley-Davidson.

The event will help raise money for Operation 300, adventure camp for children who have lost a parent serving in the military, and K9s For Warriors, a non-profit that provides canines to service members living with post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injuries or are the survivors of trauma post 9-11. Space Coast Harley-Davidson, 1440 Sportsman Lane NE, Palm Bay 32905, Tel 321-259-1311.

Harley-Davidson And Its Compliance With The EPA Clean Air Act

The US Justice Department is expected to drop $3 million Harley-Davidson emissions penalty. The U.S. Justice Department is expected to announce this week it is dropping a requirement that Harley-Davidson Inc spend $3 million to reduce air pollution as part of a settlement the Obama administration announced in August, sources briefed on the matter said.

Last year, the Milwaukee-based motorcycle maker agreed to pay a $12 million civil fine and stop selling illegal after-market devices that cause its vehicles to emit too much pollution as part of a federal court consent decree. It also agreed to spend about $3 million and enter into an agreement with the American Lung Association of the Northeast to retrofit or replace wood-burning appliances with cleaner stoves. The settlement resolved allegations that Harley sold roughly 340,000 “super tuners” enabling motorcycles since 2008 to pollute the air at levels greater than what the company certified. Harley did not admit liability, and said previously it disagreed with the government, arguing that the tuners were designed and sold to be used in “competition only.”

Polaris Industries Second Quarter 2017 Results. Indian Motorcycle Retail Sales Increased 17% For Quarter.

Overall Polaris Industries sales for the second quarter of 2017 increased 21% to $1,364.9 million. Second quarter 2017 reported net income was $0.97 per diluted share; adjusted net income for the same period was $1.16 per diluted share, slightly ahead of expectations

Polaris North American ORV unit retail sales were down low-single digits percent, a sequential improvement from the first quarter, with increasing side-by-side retail sales somewhat offsetting lower ATV retail sales. Indian Motorcycle® continued to deliver strong retail sales increasing 17% for the quarter. Polaris raising full year sales guidance and narrowing its earnings per share outlook. Adjusted sales for the full year 2017 expected in the range of up 12% to 14%.

“Performance improved in many parts of our business during the quarter, particularly within our international and PG&A businesses. The powersports industry remained very competitive and headwinds persist, but we were encouraged by the return to growth in our Side-by-Side business and continued strength and aggressive share gains for Indian Motorcycles. In a weak motorcycle industry, Indian continues to demonstrate how a complementary combination of exciting new bikes, strong dealer execution and overall brand momentum can prevail. Dealer engagement is a corporate priority and from profitability to delivery and communications, the consistent progress we are making is augmenting our retail results. We still have a lot of work to do, but we are seeing results from the strong and sustainable improvements we are making to the fundamentals of our business, as we establish the foundation of a renewed growth platform,” commented Scott Wine, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Polaris Industries.

Wine continued, “The fruits of this labor will be on display next week, when we unveil our exciting new model year ORVs and Motorcycles. These vehicles will demonstrate our capability to deliver the innovation and quality expected from the leader in Powersports, as well as improved results and enhanced shareholder value.” Continue reading ‘Polaris Industries Second Quarter 2017 Results. Joke Of The Week

The Zipper…

In a crowded city, at a busy bus stop, a woman who was waiting for a bus was wearing a tight leather skirt. As the bus stopped and it was her turn to get on, she became aware that her skirt was too tight to allow her leg to come up to the height of the first step of the bus. Slightly embarrassed and with a quick smile to the bus driver, she reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little, thinking that this would give her enough slack to raise her leg.

Again, she tried to make the step only to discover she still couldn’t. So, a little more embarrassed, she once again reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little more. For the second time, attempted the step, and, once again, much to her chagrin, she could not raise her leg. With little smile to the driver, she again reached behind to unzip a little more and again was unable to
make the step. Continue reading ‘Joke Of The Week’

Harley-Davidson Q2 Sales Down 9.3% In US, 6.7% Worldwide. Profit Down. Cutting Again 2017 Shipping To Dealers Forecast.

This morning Tuesday July 18, Harley-Davidson, Inc. (HOG) announced that during 2nd quarter worldwide retail motorcycle sales were down 6.7 percent. Retail motorcycle sales in the U.S. were down 9.3 percent. Harley-Davidson’s international retail sales decreased 2.3 percent.

New retail motorcycle sales in the U.S. were down primarily driven by weak industry conditions. New retail sales internationally were also down but generally in-line with company expectations for the second quarter of 2017.

In a conference call with analysts, CEO Matt Levatich said workforce cutbacks would be announced today. No further details were immediately available.

Harley-Davidson is lowering full-year 2017 shipment and margin guidance, citing the U.S. industry challenges in the second quarter and the importance of the supply and demand balance for its premium brand. In the second quarter, profit declined, but topped market estimates, while revenues missed their view. In pre-market activity on the NYSE, Harley-Davidson shares were losing 6.5 percent to $48.62, then 11 percent at 10 am US EST.

Harley said its U.S. market share for the quarter was 48.5% in the heavyweight motorcycle category.

Harley-Davidson now expects to ship 241,000 to 246,000 motorcycles to dealers worldwide in 2017, which is down approximately 6 percent to 8 percent from 2016. The company had previously provided full-year shipment guidance of flat to down modestly in comparison to 2016. In the third quarter, the company expects to ship 39,000 to 44,000 motorcycles, which is down approximately 10 percent to 20 percent from 2016.

The company now expects full-year 2017 operating margin to be down approximately 1 percentage point compared to 2016. The company continues to expect 2017 capital expenditures to be $200 million to $220 million.

In its second quarter, Harley-Davidson’s net income was $258.9 million, down from last year’s $280.4 million. Earnings per share decreased 4.5 percent to $1.48 from $1.55 last year. Consolidated revenue was $1.77 billion, lower than $1.86 billion for the same period in 2016. Motorcycles and related products revenue declined to $1.58 billion from $1.67 billion a year ago largely due to lower motorcycle shipments.

The BMW R NineT Customized Japanese Style

Did you noticed? During the last decade more and more major motorcycle manufacturers all over the world have chosen reputable custom builders to reinvent some of their factory models. Objective is always to expand the brand awareness by using builders belonging to the same generation and lifestyle than the potential clients. In this scenario, for the benefit of providing a brand new motorcycle and often some expert technical assistance to the builder, the motorcycle manufacturer is in the position to request a result much more than visually very attractive, a machine still functioning at least as good as it was imagined by its engineers. As a matter of fact, this feature is a good illustration of “how art challenges motorcycle technology while the same technology inspires the art of motorcycling.”

Launched by BMW Motorrad in 2014, the BMW R NineT got a well deserved reputation for being a very nice riding retro styled roadster moderately priced and offering clients a relative easy blank canvas for customization. Mixing German technology with Japanese aesthetics can produce great results. And BMW Motorrad Japan knows well having already collaborated with some of the best Japanese customizers: Shiro Nakajima, Brat Style, Hidemo, Cherry’s Company, Ken’s Factory and Hot Dock.

In September 2016, BMW Motorrad decided that Kengo Kimura from Heiwa Motorcycles in Hiroshima would be the next one to be challenged at creating a very inspiring custom for its legacy clientele. Working for the 1st time for a manufacturer and on a BMW caused Kimura a few weeks of panic until he became familiar with the R nineT by riding it daily in town to his shop also doing some touring. “It turns out that it is much easier to handle than it appears. The engine has a rather flat torque, making it easy to handle, and surprisingly light. Controls are light, and it is simply easy to ride. I have no problem keeping up with friends who ride four cylinder Japanese bikes when touring.”

“The presence of the horizontally opposed two cylinder engine was significant compared to the many two cylinder engines and single cylinder engines on older model British made bikes and Japanese bikes that we had worked on. At first I remember that something felt off about the strong presence of the engine, but after riding the R nineT Scrambler many times, that feeling turned into realizing it was one of the best points.”

Builder Kengo Kimura explains that his focus was on normal everyday street riding, but was careful not to fall in the trap of “as much custom as possible” at the expense of handling and performance. “ What I wanted to express with the R nineT Scrambler was not that this was a completely unique bike, but to create a bike with possibilities, one that new customers would want to ride, and maybe base their bike on with a few modifications. That’s why although we remade the frame from scratch, we didn’t venture into the same area as we did for show bikes. However, we did change two thirds of the rear frame.” Continue reading ‘The BMW R NineT Customized Japanese Style’

Breaking News. Indian Motorcycle 2018 Scout Bobber. Blacked Out. 100 HP. Knobby Tires. Two-Tone Leather Seat.

The Indian Motorcycle’s Industrial Design team has taken the Scout model even further forward, developing a production Bobber that can be bought direct from an Indian dealer. The 3rd and newest member of the Scout family pays homage to the mean, stripped-down builds of America’s post-war past. The Scout Bobber is a minimalist approach to aggressive street style. The emphasis is on the dark side, including blacked-out wheels and exhaust pipes but the Scout Bobber will come in five colors.

Main features include:

– Drop down bar-end mirrors
– Slotted exhaust.
– Rear LED lights have integrated stop, turn and tail signals fir visual simplification.
– New Bobber leather seat adding to the aggressive look.
– Stripped-down and blacked-out, the Scout Bobber is a minimalist approach to aggressive street style.
– Cartridge fork front suspension for a smooth, controlled ride that connects the rider with the road.
– A 100 horsepower liquid-cooled V-Twin makes the Scout Bobber quick off the line.

– Slammed rear end and low-slung profile to deliver unfiltered feedback from every inch of blacktop.
– An aggressive rider position pays homage to the mean, stripped-down builds of America’s post-war past.
– Bobber-style chopped fenders and side-mounted license plate.
– Tracker handlebars and foot pegs have been moved closer to the rider, resulting in a more aggressive riding position,
– An all-new Indian tank badge with bold block letters.

The 3rd model of the Indian Scout line-up will be available at US dealerships in September and before year end 2017 in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, Africa.) The new Scout Bobber will have a US retail price starting at $11,499, about $2500 less than the Harley Street Bob. It is my point of view that among the 18 to 35 yo Millennials who have now surpassed Baby Boomers in numbers to become the largest generation pool in the US may fall in love with this type of “Bobber Riding.” It’s exactly the opposite of the cumbersome, over–accessorized, over-chromed, over-painted touring bikes of their parents…Specs after the jump. Flashback. 1940 Crocker Big Tank.

Because of their quality and rarity (nobody knows for sure how many V-Twin Crocker were produced, about 100 units with 65 still in existence), they are some of the most expensive motorcycles ($276,500+) you can buy. Original buyers had to chose the engine displacement, from 80” to 91” or 1491 cc. Owner Albert Crocker ended motorcycle manufacturing in 1942 when his company received a a contract with Douglas Aircraft to make aircraft parts for the US army during WWII, a business that he realized was much more profitable than building motorcycles. Motorcycle Accident: Everything You Need to Know About Filing a Claim

By John Sherman

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that 88,000 motorcyclists were injured in 2015. Since motorcycles do not have the enclosed protection that cars have, personal injuries and fatalities are unfortunately common. Should a motorcycle accident occur, knowing how to protect yourself is essential. But even if you have not been in an accident, it can be helpful to understand the laws and insurance guidelines as they apply in your state.

What to Do If You Have Just Been in a Motorcycle Accident

1. Call the police
First, you should call 911 or the police directly. The police will gather the necessary information to file a report, which will be required to file an insurance claim. This report can also be helpful in court if you are moving forward with a personal injury lawsuit.

2. Seek medical treatment
Even if your injuries are minor, you should still seek medical treatment. You may have sustained internal injuries or a concussion that is not immediately apparent. Also, when you are evaluated by a medical professional, your injuries will be documented. This documentation can be valuable evidence for any litigation.

3. Do not admit fault
Assigning fault in an accident will differ based on the state where you live. Regardless of your location, you should stay neutral at the scene and never admit fault. This is not to say that you should not be truthful, but you also do not want to jeopardize your case by admitting blame.

4. Document everything
This includes:

ï Recording the contact and insurance information of the other driver
ï Taking pictures of the motorcycle, surroundings and landmarks
ï Making note of any witnesses, their names and contact info

The more information you provide the insurance company and your lawyer, the better.

5. Report the accident to your insurance company

Let your insurance provider know you were in an accident as soon as you can. Be prepared for them to ask you for information related to the accident so they can begin the claims process. Remember not to admit blame, but be truthful to the insurance company. If they find that you misled them, they could potentially deny your claim.

6. Avoid talking with representatives from other drivers’ insurance
It is not uncommon for representatives from the insurance companies for the other drivers to try to contact you to ask questions. They are skilled in what they do, especially when it comes to asking questions in a way that may benefit their company. It is advised that you do not have contact with these representatives until you have discussed the matter with your attorney. Carey Hart Gets Tattooed With Ink Made With Carbon From His Own Indian Motorcycle. You Can Too.

Motorcycles are in your blood. In Carey Hart’s too. A third-generation motocross rider, in 2003, he was the first man to land a back flip on a motorcycle and now is either building or riding bikes or donating his time to a multitude of worthy charities. The bond between Carey and riding has never been stronger. Now, he and Indian Motorcycle have made that connection literal, and everlasting. To prove it in grand fashion, self-described rebel Carey Hart used a unique ink to permanently inscribe his son’s name Jameson on his neck.

Indian Motorcycle Ink is composed of carbon ash collected from Hart’s lIndian Super Hooligan motorcycle on May 22nd, 2017 outside of Los Angeles, California and used it as pigment in sterile and safe tattoo ink to mark him forever. How is this safe? The answer came from Carey’s longtime tattoo artist, Franco Vescovi, co-founder of Nocturnal Ink. Franco brings decades of top-quality ink manufacturing experience to the table, ensuring the tattoo process is sterile and safe. The carbon simply acts as a pigment carried by the alcohol suspension. In fact, many black inks on the market use carbon as pigment.this one just happens to come from a smoldering motorcycle tire and a smoking tailpipe…

As a result, Carey is now the first first known person tattooed with ink made with carbon from his own motorcycle. The Indian Motorcycle Ink will be used exclusively at Vescovi’s Vatican Studios in Lake Forest, CA and at four Hart & Huntington Tattoo shops in Las Vegas, Orlando, Niagara Falls and Nashville beginning July 11th until they run out, and the ink is gone forever.

Joke Of The Week

I was a very happy man. My wonderful girlfriend and I had been dating for over a year. So we decided to get married.

There was only one little thing bothering me.

It was her beautiful younger sister, Sofia.

My prospective sister-in-law was twenty-two, wore very tight mini skirts, and generally was bra-less.

She would regularly bend down when she was near me. I always got more than a nice view.

It had to be deliberate. She never did it around anyone else.

One day she called and asked me to come over. ‘To check my Sister’s wedding- invitations’ she said.

She was alone when I arrived. She whispered to me that she had feelings and desires for me. She couldn’t overcome them anymore.

She told me that she wanted me just once before I got married. She said “Before you commit your life to my sister”.

Well, I was in total shock, and I couldn’t say a word. She said, “I’m going upstairs to my bedroom” she said, “if you want one last wild fling, just come up and have me”.

I was stunned and frozen in shock as I watched her go up the stairs. Continue reading ‘Joke Of The Week’
