Twin Power Introduces Rear Chain Conversion Kit For Touring Models

Owners of 2009 and later Cush Drive Harley-Davidson® touring models can easily convert from rear belt to Chain Drive thanks to Twin Power. With the popularity of today’s high horsepower and large cubic inch engines, superchargers, turbochargers and more, the stock rear drive belt can only transmit so much power before it breaks. To eliminate the expensive, labor intensive replacement process, Twin Power comes to the rescue of dresser-riding horsepower junkies with a bolt-on Rear Chain Conversion Kit.

“The chain conversion kit installs easily with no modifications,” says James Simonelli, Brand Manager for Twin Power. “Besides being able to transmit much more power than the belt, the kit allows easy re-gearing for those who want to make better use of their 6-speed transmission. Plus, swapping the rear belt to chain drive is far less work than changing a broken belt. You don’t need to remove the swingarm.” Simonelli adds, “Look for similar high-quality kits for Sportster, FXRs and Dynas soon.” Continue reading ‘Twin Power Introduces Rear Chain Conversion Kit For Touring Models’

11th Pied Piper’s Annual Industry Benchmarking Study Of U.S. Motorcycle Dealerships. BMW Ranked First. Harley Second. Indian And Ducati Third.

Helping brand dealers understand how motorcycle shoppers become buyers is the objective of this annual Pied Piper’s Study. BMW ranks first in Satisfaction Index of shoppers. The study measured treatment of motorcycle shoppers who visited a dealership, with rankings by brand determined by the Pied Piper PSI process, which ties “mystery shopping” measurement and scoring to industry sales success.

Harley-Davidson dealers were ranked second, while Polaris Industries’ Indian brand and Audi AG’s Ducati brand finished tied for third. Five years ago, BMW dealerships performed below the industry average, with a PSI score of 98, but since then the BMW average PSI score has improved every year as sales behaviors have changed. For example, compared to their performance five years ago, BMW dealers in 2017 were 50% more likely to mention test rides, were 60% more likely to encourage going through the numbers or writing up a deal, and were 30% more likely to ask for contact information to allow follow-up. Twist Chopper 650XS

When you build custom motorcycles and get your size and first name written all over the bike press written in a solid word as a Brand, it must means that you are getting recognition, appreciation and respect… I met Jacques Masson, known as GrandJack, during the latest Daytona Bike Week, like me strolling the Boardwalk Show for the best new bike creations. Yes, he is very tall (more than me…), and promised t let me know about his new creative creation in his native country of France,

It’s already 3 decades ago that GrandJack got the Harley riding bug, giving it to his wife, each modifying his own bike at home in a condo space, then progressively making new friends at improving what they rode. Working on all types of 2 wheelers, learning the tricks of the trade and discovering/imagining what he could do if he would own and master the right fabrication tools. And as all builders I know around the world who did it one way or the other, GrandJack ended up with his own fully equipped dream custom motorcycle shop. Interesting to mention, Grandjack is also specialized in the conception and fabrication of custom handlebars, and it’s frequent in Europe to see him exhibit 100’s of them in the big bike rallies.

This Twist Project 650XS is a job started 2 1/2 years ago on the challenge he gave to himself to build a bike not looking like any you could see in catalogues and magazines. Starting point had to be a great looking motor with an old school flair that he would rebuild to mechanical and aesthetic perfection. When the Yamaha XS 650 was launched in 1968 it had one of the most advanced engines in its class of large parallel twin motorcycles. The engine and gearbox are unit construction with the crankcase split horizontally for ease of assembly whereas almost all contemporaries in its class in 1968 are either unit construction with a vertically split crankcase or pre-unit construction with separate engine and gearbox. Wheels Designed And Built To Run With Beringer Inboard Brake System.

Beringer has adapted aircraft braking technology for motorcycles. Per Beringer’s calculations the system delivers three times less gyroscopic inertia, a 20% stopping power increase (over a single disc setup) and about 1 lb total weight reduction. All the above is being complimented by a very unique look.

So, Andrei Rybkin at HD Wheels designed special hubs allowing from a 40 to 120 a 40 to 120 spoke configuration which you can use either with single or dual brake rotors.

These wheels feature steel or aluminum rims, billet aluminum hubs, and stainless steel spokes with almost infinite configuration options of style and finish.

The Cobra Powerflow Intake System

In its fourth decade, Cobra Engineering continues a tradition of offering high quality accessories and exhausts to personalize your bike, all made by them right here in Southern California, not off-shore, made in some far-away country products from us.

For a modern cruiser, I always liked their classic and stylish Powerflow Intake System offered in 2 different versions. One featured here with an aluminum cover with a v-shaped opening with a formed stainless steel mesh.

The other one more elemental in a formed steel mesh. The internal workings are the same for both styles.

False And Misleading Claim Again. Harley-Davidson Pays 10% Tax In India. Not 100% As Alleged.

The scope of false and misleading facts and statements incite many politicians to continue to push :Alternative Facts” for their own benefitts. And this on all sides of the spectrum…. My job being to inform and entertain you around our motorcycling passion, from time to time it requires my intervention to push away the dubious claims, In this case, as most know, US President Trump indicated Harley-Davidson pays 100% duty on its importations in India. That these import duties must be cut…With authorization, I publish below the tax liability and sources of info for tax liability facing all motorcycle manufacturers with no exception. I think you will find this very informative and more…

“Harley-Davidson pays as little as 10% duty in India on much of its supplies. As a commerce ministry note suggests, Harley — which has a plant in this country since 2011 —imports a lot of its components like engines, gear box, transmission mechanism etc in a pre-assembled form that are liable for just a 10% duty. So, the argument that India has been imposing a 100% duty on Harley is “incorrect”, it stresses.

Harley sold 4,080 units in India in 2014 and 4,445 units in 2015, much higher than its imports of 1,445 and 2,742 units in 2014 and 2015, respectively. This means a large number of Harley bikes are manufactured in India at its plant in Haryana where imposing a 100% tax “doesn’t come into picture”, according to the note. In fact, Harley has an over 50% share of the Indian market in the bike segments ranging from 800cc to over 1,600cc. FE was the first to report on March 10 that India was providing its embassy in Washington DC with these facts on the Harley issue to clear any ‘misconceptions’ there, if required. Custom 1936 WL. Extending Harley-Davidson Bloodline.

Motorcycle advertising campaigns with a great consistent theme have produced great sales to consumers. Having a deep education and professional background in marketing and advertising to which was mixed my love for motorcycles, with a few others in the current custom industry  I am over appreciative of what Harley-Davidson has accomplished in terms of popularity, culture and respect all over the world.

And when Customs Builders volunteer their know how to enrich and extend this H-D branding without betraying it, it makes me happy…To be simple, where marketing is to sell a motorcycle, pushusing it to consumers, branding aims to establish a significant and differentiated presence in the market that attracts and retains loyal customers.

What a better example than the desirable characteristics bred or rebred into the Harley WL. Like others, I am convinced that this H-D model owns an indestructible/forever immortal bloodline.

I don’t mind that some will not find this WL period-correct, or too Bobber or too Bling or whatever of your choice. Branding is the expression of the essential truth of an organization like Harley-Davidson .

The WL characteristics, values, and attributes continue to activates new buyers of new models, advocates, even evangelists, out of all those who buy and customize…

Flash back to 1931. All of Harley-Davidson’s remaining American competition is now gone except Indian (Hendee Manufacturing) and Harley-Davidson, the only two American motorcycle manufacturers until 1953. At that time, the scene was mainly a game of choosing between Miles or Speed. Joe Petrali begins a five-year consecutive streak of winning the AMA Grand National Championship. Petrali also wins the National Hill-Climb Championships for 1932 to 1935. Joe Petrali and his Harley-Davidson peashooter win all thirteen of the American Motorcycle Association National Championship dirt track races. In 1936, Harley-Davidson introduces the EL, an overhead valve, 61 cubic inch powered bike. With increased horsepower and bold styling changes, the motorcycle quickly earns the nickname of “Knucklehead,” due to the shape of its rocker boxes. Continue reading ‘Custom 1936 WL. Revealed Today. The Custom MV Agusta Brutale 800 Charity Bike From 2 Sisters From Another Mister.

The full custom MV Agusta Brutale 800 build Sofi Tsingos gt-moto.com and Alicia Elfving have been building since April 2016 will be revealed and on display at The Handbuilt Motorcycle Show in Austin, Texas this weekend from April 21-23. The raffle ticket Sale deadline has been pushed back to allow sales through the show and for approximately two weeks after.

Sofi Tsignos  Build Background by Alicia Mariah Elfving

“Some years ago I posted a short feature about a motorcycling woman and her custom 1977 Honda CB550 cafe racer built with her dad George. That lady was Sofi Tsingos. At the time, Sofi was working at Ducati Dallas managing their parts counter, and I was working at MotoCorsa, the Ducati dealership in Portland, heading up the internet marketing and social side of things. In the four years since, she and I both have gone solo, diving head first into two very different careers in the motorcycle industry. While I photograph, catalogue, and review all things related to women in motorcycling, Sofi builds beautiful custom motorcycles under the name GT-Moto while also giving back to the community.

Last year, the custom Honda CB cafe racer project she and George built was raffled off to people across the United States for a total of $33,000. After paying back the cost of parts and base bike (no labor included) they were able to donate over $16,500 to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. This is, to me, one of the most noble causes to donate to, and shows an admirable level of dedication to her craft as well as bettering the world in which we all live.

While she, nor I, are rolling in money from our self employed hustles, we both see a big opportunity to work together and do something for the greater good at the same time. What’s the point in having all this social media “presence” if I’m not using it to make a positive impact? Continue reading ‘Revealed Today. 04-22-17 Industry Mourns the Death of J&P Cycles Founder John Parham

Team members at Motorcycle Aftermarket Group and J&P Cycles mourn the death of J&P Cycles founder John Parham, who lost his battle with pulmonary fibrosis on Thursday, April 20, 2017.

John was a biker’s biker, a successful business owner and passionate promoter of motorcycling. He left a legacy that benefits every rider in America and around the world.

“John was a very special person,” said Andy Graves, President and CEO at MAG. “So many people knew John as a retailer, an event promoter, a custom bike aficionado, a vintage bike fan or the driving force behind the National Motorcycle Museum. Few people have accomplished so much for so many riders in their lifetime.”

John founded the company that became J&P Cycles in 1979. He grew both his retail stores and his mail order business while expanding his efforts to promoting races and vintage motorcycle events throughout the country. He led the industry by adding the J&P Cycles catalog of over 100,000 parts and accessories onto the internet resulting in DealerNews magazine naming J&P Cycles the “World’s Largest Aftermarket Retailer.” With over 300 team members, the success and growth of J&P Cycles also strengthened communities including: Anamosa, Iowa, Ormond Beach, Florida and Sturgis, South Dakota.

John’s passion for motorcycling and motorcyclists led to amassing one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive collections of motorcycles, in excess of 300 machines. Moving the National Motorcycle Museum to Anamosa, Iowa enabled John to share his passion with riders from all over the world. John was inducted into both the AMA Hall of Fame (2015) and the Sturgis Museum’s Hall of Fame (2009).

“John built J&P Cycles out of his passion, and that passion has spurred so many others to love motorcycling just like he did,” said Kevin Strawbridge, President of MAG Retail Group. “We’ll work hard to continue his legacy by making motorcycling a special experience for generations to come.”

He is survived by his wife Jill, son Zach, daughter-in-law Bree and two grandchildren. Zach is the General Manager and Vice-President of Merchandising at J&P Cycles.

A celebration of John’s life and legacy is being planned. Anticipating what would be John’s choice, friends are encouraged to sign up for and support the organ donation program in their community and continue their support of the National Motorcycle Museum.
