Harley-Davidson Drag Racing. The Book To Get A Nitro Fix.
Published by May 12th, 2010 in Books, Builders, Editorial and Events.A Mexican, an Arab, and an Arizona girl are in the same bar.
When the Mexican finishes his beer, he throws his glass in the air, pulls out his pistol and shoots the glass to pieces. He says, ‘In Mexico our glasses are so cheap we don’t need to drink with the same one twice.’
The Arab, obviously impressed by this, drinks a non-alcohol beer (because he is a Muslim), throws it into the air, pulls out his AK-47, and shoot the glass to pieces. He says, ‘In the Arab World we have so much sand to make glasses that we don’t need to drink with the same one twice either.’ Continue reading ‘Joke Of The Week. Drinking with An Arizona Girl…’
Motorcycle Manufacturers Under Brake Pressure
Published by May 11th, 2010 in Brakes, Builders, Editorial and Events.Expect the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to require very soon antilock brakes (ABS) on all new motorcycles, all this under the pressure of insurance companies.
Because some motorcycle manufacturers were reluctant to make the systems standard, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (representing insurance companies) ordered a study whose main conclusion is that motorcycles with antilock brakes were about 38 percent less likely to be involved in fatal crashes. Freaking Motorcycle News. The Teutuls Divorce.
Published by May 11th, 2010 in Builders, Customs, Editorial and Events.Almost live from the Bench, below are the legal details of the OCC divorce between Paul Senior and Paul Junior. As you can see the humorous arguments (for some) of the American Chopper show have turned into a full fledged legal battle.
When OCC was founded in 1999, Senior owned 80% and Junior 20% of the company. In January 2008, OCC and Junior signed an employment agreement with a non compete clause. The agreement also gave Senior the option to acquire Junior’s shares in OCC . Junior had to sell to his father, upon Senior’s request, of his shares for fair market value as determined by a procedure to be agreed later by the parties. In December 2008, Senior fired Junior after they got into a argument. Continue reading ‘Freaking Motorcycle News. The Teutuls Divorce.’

Custom Motorcycle Frame Builder And Beyond.
Published by May 9th, 2010 in Chassis, Driveline, Editorial and Engines. You know that a motorcycle frame is the first critical part on which to never sacrifice quality and integrity. Better work with experts who work on frame tables, use professional jigs, know about tubing bends, cross members and braces, and have the welding know-how to get a straight frame with a safe geometry. After that, the major issue facing both the pro and amateur custom builders is to modify again this “perfect frame” to work with the bike you have in mind, meaning fitting the components you have chosen (engine, transmission, front & rear suspension wheels, etc). Glad That You Asked. What Years Did AMF Own Harley-Davidson?
Published by May 9th, 2010 in Builders and Editorial.
AMF (American Machinery And Foundry) bought Harley-Davidson in 1969, and sold it in 1981 to a group of thirteen investors led by Vaughn Beals and Willie G. Davidson for $80 million.
During the AMF ownership bikes were of so poor quality (versus Japanese motorcycles) that Harleys were nicknamed “Hardly Ableson”, “Hardly Driveable,” and “Hogly Ferguson”
All mothers are working mothers.
God could not be everywhere, so he created mothers.
It’s not easy being a mother. If it were easy, fathers would do it.
A man’s work is from sun to sun, but a mother’s work is never done.
A little girl, asked where her home was, replied, “where mother is.”
A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.
A man loves his sweetheart the most, his wife the best, but his mother the longest.
A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.

If you avoid police traps, you still can have a good time in Myrtle Beach. But reality is that local businesses and vendors already in town setting up for the event are perfectly aware of a possible new slump in business during the 2010 edition. The reason, much more than the economy, is the standoff between bikers and the city of Myrtle Beach. No ruling has yet been issued regarding the lawsuits stating that the Myrtle Beach’s helmet law is unconstitutional because it is stricter than State law, which only requires helmets for riders under 21. Bikers Over 40 Two Times More Likely To Die In An Accident. Bad Reflexes Or Bad Bones?
Published by May 7th, 2010 in Editorial.Between 1996 and 2005 the National Trauma Databank reviewed the records of 61,689 motorcyclists aged 17 to 89 years who had been involved in a motorcycle crash. Their findings reveal the average age of motorcyclists involved in crashes increased by approximately 5 years, from 34 to 39, between 1996 and 2005. (It’s consistent with the statistics of the Motorcycle Industry Council showing that the average age of motorcycle ownership rose from 33 to 40 between 1998 and 2003.)
The National Trauma Data Bank results show that the proportion of injured riders above the age of 40 jumped from about 28 percent to close to 50 percent in that same time period. The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) found that for riders over 40, injury severity, length of stay in the hospital or intensive care unit, and mortality were all higher compared with younger riders. This one will not add much weight to your bike. If you like the look of this aluminum “holed” battery box, what can I tell you that you don’t see? Of course the size.
So, write it down. 5&7/8″X5&1/8″X 3&1/2″. Now, find the small battery fitting inside. Hint: try a small Sportster or ThunderStart one. (yes, you will have to make your own steel frame brackets.)

Ian Barry To Unveil His New Functional Art Motorcycle
Published by May 6th, 2010 in Builders, Customs, Editorial and Videos.Saturday May 8th, 2010 following the smashing success of the “Bullet”, Falcon Motorcycles custom builder Ian Barry is going to reveal its newest custom at the Carmel Quail Lodge. Named the “Kestrel” (after a species of falcon that hunts in the open plains) it is the second of “Falcon’s Series Of Ten”, 10 custom motorcycles designed around the engines of iconic pre- and post-War British motorcycles.” The work of an artisan is always a work of art, especially when you are Ian Barry and spend up to 2,000 hours redesigning old bikes from the ground up and performing all the fabrication in-house, including some tools necessary to work on them.
The heart of the Kestrel is the engine from a 1970 Triumph Bonneville, which Falcon cut in half and completely re-engineered. With the exception of a few critical pieces everything – including the frame, girder front forks, gas and oil tanks, exhausts, handlebars, levers, even the cylinders – was fabricated in-house from blocks, sheets and rods of steel, brass and aluminum. Although Ian Barry doesn’t want any pictures of the Kestrel published before its unveiling on Friday, at least I can show you a video interview shot by the Los Angeles Times where you can catch a few glimpses of this bespoke, one-of-a-kind motorcycle art. The Harley-Davidson Sidecar Used To Chase Revolutionary Leader Pancho Villa
Published by May 5th, 2010 in Builders, Editorial and Events. All Americans know about John Pershing (1860-1948), the only person in the history of the United States who was authorized during his lifetime to wear six stars with the rank of General Of The Armies. From his role in suppressing the last uprisings of the Lakota Sioux Indians in 1890 to his military accomplishments during WWI to being the mentor of US Generals during WWII, his military successes and his memoirs (“My Experience in the World War”, 1932 Pulitzer Prize for History) made him an American legend. In January 1914, Pershing was assigned to command the Army 8th Cavalry Regiment in Fort Bliss, Texas to enforce security along the U.S.-Mexico border. He led his Regiment on the failed 1916–17 Punitive Expedition into Mexico in search of its revolutionary leader Pancho Villa. And the interesting part for us is that during this long expedition, John Pershing was riding a Harley sidecar. Victory Salespeople Top Expectations From Motorcycle Shoppers.
Published by May 4th, 2010 in Builders, Editorial and Events.Independent market research firm Pied Piper just released its Prospect Satisfaction Index (PSI), a study now in its fourth year of how dealerships treat motorcycle shoppers. The study was conducted by sending 2,014 “mystery shoppers” to motorcycle dealerships around the country between July 2009 and April 2010 with for objective to rate dealership salespeople on how they help or hinder potential motorcycle buyers.
14 major motorcycle brands were visited and Victory, a division of Polaris, rated # 1 overall. As a plus, Victory salespeople appeared to be the most interactive, asking for a prospect’s name and contact information and encouraging him to sit on motorcycles in the showroom.
