Then, this morning, Tim Gueltzow, one of the new partners who is assuming the functions of Director Of Sales And Marketing, wrote to me to officially confirm that Saxon Motorcycles was sold as of Monday August 24. As you all know, both Arlen and Cory Ness collaborate with Victory to design limited editions. Cory did work on the Vegas Jackpot and Cross Country models and Arlen on the touring Vision. Manufacturer’s objectives are always to enhance the brand image, sell a few more customized models to a clientele ready to pay extra bucks for getting the “look at me” factor and incite others to customize their stock bikes. Although salt quality for racing was quite bad during the first 2 days, a lot of new Land Speed Records in Bonneville this year. Too many to mention in my Blog, but one to notice was the 2 reached on a bike last ridden by late Cliff Gullett tragically killed while racing the Salts in 2008. Yesterday I received an advance copy of this new gorgeous book and of course could not resist spending my all evening reading about the 50 Builders featured and look at the superb photography of their custom bikes. Joe Bonnello is a friend of the crew at Saddlemen. With 4 other friends he did a ride that I would really like to do, up to the highest roads in the world in the northwestern Himalaya mountains. The bikes used were India-made Royal Enfields Motorcycles and when Joe and group reached the highest road peak he wrote to Saddlemen “The shocks on those Enfields are simply non-existent. Without the seat gel we would have not survived.Thank you from the bottom of my ass..…”.
The installed front brake caliper bracket bolts may be too short, reducing thread engagement of the bolts into the caliper bracket. The brake caliper could become loose or separating, resulting in reduced brake effectiveness, loss of control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of crash. Triumph will replace these bolts. Erik Buell, Founder and CTO of Buell Motorcycles says it himself in his website. His Blast model was initially conceived as a first bike for somebody who has never been on a motorcycle. Something cute, light, low and easy to handle. But he admits that it has never been an innovative, breakthrough sport bike and that it has somewhat pulled away people from what is really a true Buell bike.
Because the Blast doesn’t fit with the brand, Erik has imagined a very creative way to announce its extinction. With a great sense of humor, by a process that he calls “ruthless engineering”, Erik Buell is shown turning Buell Blasts into colorful metal cubes (pick your color), each numbered and signed by Erik himself. A series of photographs by Tom Zimberoff and display panels featuring background information on the bike’s builder are included in the exhibition. Last weekend during the Super Swap Meet in Davenport, Iowa the AMCA (Antique Motorcycle Club of America) Ryan Mackey was picked by 30 judges as the winner of the “Free Harley Give Away Contest”. He was one of the ninety 18 to 25 year olds that wrote an essay for the contest which ran for October 1st 2008 through August 15th 2009. The prize for the contest is a 1942 Harley Davidson WLA bobber in pieces, and 2 months shop time at Carl’s Cycle Supply in Aberdeen, SD. As soon as Ryan finishes building the bike and rides it, he will get the title for the bike and get to keep it. Congrats to him for writing a beautiful essay that I reproduce below.
