Charlie was installing a new door and found that one of the hinges was missing. He asked his wife Mary if she would go to HOME DEPOT and pick up a hinge.Mary agreed to go. While she was waiting for the nice young man to finish serving a customer, her eye caught a beautiful bathroom vanity tap set….When the man was finished, Mary asked him. “How much is that vanity set? The young assistant manager replied, “That’s a gold plated set and the price is $5000.00.
Mary exclaimed, “My goodness, that is very expensive. It’s certainly out of my price bracket.” She then proceeded to describe the hinge
that Charlie had sent her to buy. The manager said that he had them in stock and went into the storeroom to get one.
From the storeroom the manager yelled. “Lady, do you wanna screw for the hinge?” Mary paused for a moment and then shouted back, “No, but I will for the vanity set.”

If you have been to the Laconia, New Hampshire event, you may have been pulled over by police because of your motorcycle high bars.
Senator Andrew Hosmer, a Democrat from Laconia, has introduced legislation to repeal the statute restricting the height of handlebars on motorcycles.
Since 1967 the Granite State is among more than 30 states that limit the height of handlebars, prohibiting motorcycles on the road fitted with grips higher than than the shoulder level of the driver when in the seat or saddle.” It also prohibits riding a motorcycle with “improvised, defective, or repaired handlebars.” Continue reading ‘New Hampshire May Repeal Law Limiting Handlebars Height’

In the last feature I published about the Ken’s Factory I was mentioning that builder Ken Nagai, after years of globe-trotting, is probably one of the most well known/respected builder on 3 continents at the same time: Asia, Europe and North America. Since then, he didn’t slow down his traveling, crisscrossing the world to show his custom motorcycles, marketing his new parts and also expanding his California location now managed by Nelson Kanno.

Faithful to his philosophy “Details Create Style”, all of Ken Nagai’s creations mix old and new in world-class styling with an exceptional attention to awesome detailing. Olde Dogge, a fully rebuilt Harley Softail, is a new example showing his ability at redesigning a factory bike, at improving its anatomy, at grooming the unnecessary, at creating beautiful physical attributes for machines owning a new powerful stance

Photography will not do justice to all the work involved to achieve such results. New aluminum bodywork flows flawlessly from the high tech Ken’s Factory Billet Girder front end to the gas tank featuring a gorgeous dash to the rear fender adorned with contour rods and now attached to and moving in sync with a dual tube swingarm. Olde Dogge rolls on a 23” front and 20”/220 rear wheels, both wrapped in Avon rubber. Continue reading ‘Ken’s Factory Olde Dogge Softail’

In this 1921 photo, a group of riders poses with their Indian Motorcycles at Keegan, Mattern & Gaffney in Watertown, NY. The store was dealing in motor supplies and sporting goods with no motorcycles to look at on display. So, riders ordered their Indian motorcycles through this store but had to travel to the Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company in Springfield, Massachusetts to pick them up, then had to ride them back home. The “dealer” opened in 1919 and went into bankruptcy in 1921.

Jurors Deem Plaintiffs Negligent In Lawsuit Over Defective Motorcycle Helmets. The lawsuit was originally filed by Wendall Lynn Hulse and Frances Kay Hulse June 21, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court and named Harley Davidson, Hongjin Crown Corp. and Cowboy Motorsports as defendants. The plaintiffs alleged their motorcycle helmets were not equipped with critical injury prevention technology. Because they fail to plead facts to support a design defect claim, the jurors found there was no defect in the helmet when it left the possession of HJC and that the plaintiff was 100 percent negligent in causing the injury.

The Laughlin River Run is the largest motorcycle event on the west coast and will take place in Laughlin, Nevada April 27th through April 30th, 2016. The term ‘River Run’ finds its origin from the tradition of motorcycle riders riding out to the Colorado River, and then along to Laughlin. The XL1000 was built by Bud Ekins for the movie “Viva Knievel” It is one of the most famous motorcycles for one of the greatest showmen of the 20th century. Estimated price is $80,000 to $100,000. High school dropout Robert Craig Knievel left Butte, Montana with not much more than a petty criminal record and an insatiable hunger for fame and money. Stints at rodeo riding, ski-jumping and semi-pro hockey had failed to deliver the desired notoriety, but the man could ride a motorcycle…
He became a genuine cultural phenomenon to a nation reeling from the 1970s morass of the Vietnam War, Watergate and the Oil Crisis. “I came along at the right time in the right place,” Knievel told writer Davey Combs. “America was down on its ass when I came along and needed somebody who was truthful and honest, someone who would spill blood and break bones and suffer brain concussions, somebody who wasn’t a phony.” Continue reading ‘Movie Used 1976 Harley-Davidson XL1000 Evel Knievel To Be Sold Jan. 7 At Bonhams Las Vegas Auction’

It’s the question asked by a company called Tilting Motor Works to all aging riders tempted to go from a 2 to a 3-wheeler. The argument is that a conventional trike isn’t that much fun compared to a motorcycle. The company developed a leaning 3-wheel conversion (2 wheels upfront) to fit all models in Harley-Davidson’s Touring line including the Road King, Road Glide, Street Glide and Electra Glide models and also Softails, Dynas, Sportsters and V-Rods. New old school. Neo retro style. Whatever the appellation, new fabricated parts mimicking those found on classic oem motorcycles is the new rage.
For those looking to add some soul to their modern Harley Twin Cam, this Xzotic Generator Style Cam Cover offered exclusively by Custom Chrome Europe is a very easy bolt-on.
The one-piece part mounts exactly as the stock Harley Cam Cover. Only an Allen head wrench is required to access the screws inside the “Generator Housing”. That’s it! The slotted screws are for aesthetic purpose, never touched nor stressed. You just re-use the factory screws to mount the new cam cover. Of course, you need to use a brand new gasket. (some custom exhaust systems can interfere with the cover) Fits all Twin Cam engines 00-15. At Custom Chrome Europe.

High powered engines (100+ mph) in sparse frames. No brakes. Just a kill switch. At the beginning of the 20th century, the daredevils riding these machines on wooden planks with up to 60-degree corners, protected only by leather helmets, attracted each weekend huge crowds all over the country.
Harley-Davidson and Indian were reigning supreme in most races. As severe injuries, deaths of riders and even of spectators grew in numbers, the plug was pulled on that form of racing. But the gorgeous machines remained to be admired by the next generations.

Highlights from a PR from PPIHC.
Motorsports in general are inherently dangerous and the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the most dangerous in the word. As the organizers of the PPIHC, an event that was founded in 1916 and will celebrate its 100th anniversary next summer, it is our responsibility to minimize risk while preserving the rich legacy of the Race to the Clouds. One way of minimizing these risks is by not allowing vehicles to compete in our race that we are not comfortable with.
The PPIHC’s decision to revert to a rule last used in 2012 that eliminates motorcycles manufactured with two-piece handlebars from competing in the 2016 race has captured the attention of readers, but with a few misconceptions. We wrote this release to eliminate any confusion. We appreciate everyone’s interest in the PPIHC and wanted to explain the history of motorcycle racing at Pikes Peak and reasoning behind why we decided to reestablish this rule for motorcycles participating in the Race to the Clouds.
In the picture below, the difference in riding position offered on motorcycles equipped with a one-piece handlebar (left) and motorcycles with clip-on handlebars (right)

The PPIHC is 100 percent committed to maintaining the Race to the Clouds as a premier two and four-wheeled racing event by honoring our rich history while developing and working to secure a sustainable and prosperous future. The PPIHC is one of, if not the most, unique motorsports events in the world with everything from sidecars, quads/ATVs, motorcycles, production vehicles, semi-trucks, and 1,400+ horsepower Unlimited and electric racers being able to compete in the same event on the same day.
If you look at the history of motorcycle racing at the PPIHC, the motorcycle program has been banned once due to an incident that injured three and once again after a fatality. There is no way for us to let everyone know how committed we are to preserving motorcycle racing at the PPIHC than through our actions to only acquire an insurance provider, in today’s litigious society, that would permit two-wheeled competition after two consecutive years of motorcycle competitor fatalities.
