Long time that S&S Cycle didn’t release a new product. Brand new for the coming riding season, the Viola, WI company is launching their new Stealth air cleaners, a series offering bikers a lot of flexibility at correct prices. An addition to the S&S Super Stock™ line of intake they are called Stealth because they let owners of 1999 and later Harley-Davidson® Big twins to improve flow and horsepower. They will accept the stock outer air cleaner cover so your bike looks stock and nobody will know you have a little something extra going for you, an S&S air cleaner.
Internal design is similar to the traditional S&S teardrop air cleaners, in that the back plate forms a radiused inlet, like a mini air horn, and there is a directional “stinger” cone that direct air towards the center of the radiused inlet. The radiused inlet and the directional cone are designed to let air flow smoothly into the carb or throttle body with less turbulence, hence better flow. David Uhl’s Tribute To Gloria Tramontin Struck

She is 86, has done 69 years of riding in the US and abroad. She doesn’t know the word trailer, still shovel the snow front of her New Jersey house in winter to be able to ride to Daytona Bike Week. She is our female hero, an inspiration for all bikers on and off her bike and a remarkable lady inside. She started riding at age 16, and since then she has always been and is still is a long distance rider who set all standards not only for women riders but for all bikers. She is a member of the Sturgis Hall Of Fame, one of the first in 1946 to have joined “Motor Maids“, the first and oldest continuously operated women’s motorcycling organization, and never stopped paving the way for so many ladies who are all her best friend. Rolling Thunder 25th Anniversary Tribute Bike Build Features Four Legendary Builders (Part 1)

Memorial Day Weekend marks the 25th Anniversary of Rolling Thunder in Washington, D.C., an annual motorcycle Demonstration Run that attracts over 450,000 motorcycles and one million attendees. To commemorate this honorary event, four custom motorcycles will be built by four legendary bike builders. Through a collaborative effort between Rolling Thunder and Jay Allen (creator of the Broken Spoke Saloon) the selection of custom builders is as follows. Brigitte Bourget, Billy Lane, Mike Tomas, Dar Holdsworth. “We selected these fine builders and luckily they snapped up the opportunity to build the 4 bikes that will represent each specific branch of the military,” said Jay.
Brigitte Bourget was the very first person to accept this project. She and the gang at Bourgets are very excited about the tribute build and anxious to get started on the Marine bike. Billy Lane has already fabricated a jig out of scrap aluminum and awaiting delivery of the tubing and sheet metal to begin building the Air Force bike from scratch. Kiwi Mike is so excited that Indian will be represented alongside S&S Cycle and Baker Drivetrain American V-Twin Bikes. He’s building his Coast Guard tribute bike based upon a 1945 Indian Chief and he’s hoping to ride the bike to the Rolling Thunder Anniversary event for the unveiling. And word is that Kiwi Mike is collaborating with Ron Finch on the build. Dar Hodsworth is a military veteran of Desert Storm, is especially dedicated to the build. There is one custom part going onto the Navy bike that requires such intense fabrication that it’s valued at over $8,000. Billy Lane To Start A Custom Motorcycle Project While Still Behind Bars

On August 14, 2009 Billy Lane was sentenced to 6 years in Prison regarding the vehicular homicide case in connection with a September 4, 2006 crash that left Gerald Morelock dead. Upon his release from prison (to happen sooner than 2015 because Billy will be credited 2 days per month against jail time for good behavior), he will be in probation for 3 years, will have his drivers license suspended for life (pending appeal), and will also have to undergo random drug and alcohol testing.
Billy is a talented builder and living around motorcycles is all his life. So, I was not surprised to learn that Billy, with jail direction approval, is starting a motorcycle project while still behind bars. Billy will have no issue sourcing the parts and material he needs via his connections in the custom motorcycle industry. More info about this build coming very soon.
For information, some Choppers Inc. parts are again for sale on eBay and Billy, with the help of his sister, intends to release new parts to be also sold on eBay while still doing time at the Avon Park Work Camp in Avon Park, Florida.

But to the objection that electric motorcycles are not powerful enough to attract a clientele riding gas powered bikes, I am telling you that very soon it will no more be the case. I know, you have many other objections before switching to a green bike. But look at this battery powered bicycle. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds (on a parking lot), faster than a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. A creation made by an employee of Zero Motorcycles, just for fun.

Harley-Davidson Workers Getting Physical Care at Work. More and more companies are offering fitness programs to their workers. Reason is of course the growing number of older plant workers in their baby boomer years getting injured while performing physical work. By 2018, 24 percent of US workers will be 55 or older. Now factory workers can drop by before or after their shifts, or even on their breaks during business hours. All this for the benefit of Harley-Davidson reporting declining numbers of injuries, fewer lost work days and older, more experienced, workers working longer.
2011 BMW Motorcycle Sales Strongest Ever. With a progression of 6.4% over 2010, delivering 104,286 versus 98,047 the former year, BMW reported its record-breaking sales ever. The previous highest year in BMW sales was in 2007 when the German manufacturer delivered 102,467 bikes. Du Pont Family Historic Motorcycle And Parts Collection Sold For US $1 Million

For all those loving, intending to invest in or already collectors of antique motorcycle and parts, the numbers listed below would tend to prove again and again that during recession times historic pieces are even more desirable. During the second annual Las Vegas Bohnams Auction, total sales were 2 million dollars with the entire Du Pont family collection entirely sold for a cool 1 million. L. Paul du Pont was the Indian Motorcycle Company president who guided the company to success through the Great Depression years. For his collection, bids came from the US,
Europe, the southern hemisphere and even India and the Middle East.
Highlights from the historic du Pont Family Collection included:
1906 Indian Camel Back in original condition sold for $72,540
1915 Indian Twin Board Track Racer in unrestored condition went for $67,860
1940 Indian Four in unrestored condition netted $44,460

India Motorcycle Market. The New World’s Fancy

Some updates about our 2 US based brands, Harley-Davidson and Victory, and their strategies in India.
Harley-Davidson. Currently about 36% of Harley-Davidson’s sales come from outside the US. Indian is the main focus to increase this percentage to 40% by 2014. So, Harley is ramping up its operation 1- by assembling more models locally (at this day, 5 out of 15 models and more to come) at its facility at Bawal, in Haryana, which is the bike-maker’s second plant outside the US after Brazil. The objective is to avoid paying stiff tariffs on complete imported bikes. 2- by opening very soon 3 new dealerships in Kolkata, Jaipur and Kochi for a total of 10 dealers in this country. 3- by looking for growth beyond India’s big cities and eyeing new sales in smaller towns where Harley intends to expand its iconic US image and culture.
