Good Custom Bikes Never Get Old.

On top, the famous Gold Yamaha as it was when Custom Builder, and later Custom Chrome Int. Parts Designer, John Reed completed it in 1982. Bottom, the same bike in 2011 competing in Sturgis in the AMD World Championship Of Custom Bike Building. I can tell you that today the bike and the man are as wild as they were in 1982… Almost 30 years later The Gold Yamaha didn’t get one wrinkle. John? Just looking more mature… He kept the bike (most important), but apparently the girl found another custom builder…(wink)

Fuller Hot Rods Honda CB 750 Cafe Racer

Cafe Racers. At least 3 years that I am telling you that you are going to see more and more of them being born or re-born in the best custom shops around the world. The reason? The convergence of an affinity for the retro style with the desire to handle a very maneuverable bike both in the city and on country roads. As a matter of fact, due to the number of creations of this style present in bike shows, a couple of major custom bike competitions just started this year to create a class just for them. So, expect me to feature more and more of them. Like this one named “Rodan”  (Godzilla’s nemesis and sometimes ally) by Bryan Fuller from Fuller Hot Rods that some of you also know as the co-host of the TV Show “2 Guys Garage” on Speed Channel. It’s just a cosmetic variation of the Classic 500 cc with the same 5-speed gearbox and foot shifting. If the beige war dress works well with buyers, you can expect soon the olive green version..

Italian Motorcycling Legend Claudio Castiglioni Passes At Age 64.

Electric Lightning Motorcycle Strikes At 206.079 MPH

Green is in and electric motorcycles are converging to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah to show the world what speed they can reach.

Last Sunday a Lightning Motorcycle averaged 206.079 mph on 2 passes, with one pass at 208.38 mph easily beating last year’s 173.388 mph electric bike land speed record. Lightning Motorcycles is the brainchild of Richard Hatfield and a group of Silicon Valley engineers dedicated to the belief that world class performance is compatible with clean tech transportation.

Race Tech principal Paul Thede rode the bike equipped with a propulsion electric motor from Remy International to Southern California Timing Association record books. The Lightning SuperBike is equally suited to track days, weekend rides, your favorite back roads or… record runs at Bonneville. A build-to-order bike like this will set you back about $40,000. Motorcycle Passenger Legal Rights. Did You Know?

Most people people don’t know the rights passengers have, both as riders in a car and on a motorcycle. Even when you are not the person operating a car or motorcycle you still have protection under the law.

In case of injury as a passenger you may be worried at the idea of filing a claim against a family member or friend. As a matter of fact your own insurance coverage usually covers you if you ride as a passenger (check the extent of the coverage.) And if you have no insurance the claim you make is against the insurance of the operator, not against your friend or family member. You are not obliged to sue a friend or family member to file a claim with his insurance company. His insurance premium may go up, but it will go up anyway if he or she is responsible for the accident.

2011 Sturgis Rally. First Numbers.

From Associated Press.

1- Traffic counts into and out of Sturgis by the State Department of Transportation were down nearly 12 percent through Thursday. Attendance at last year’s rally was estimated at 466,769, up from 442,163 in 2009. The 60th rally in 2000 drew the biggest crowd so far, an estimated 633,0002

2- Young adults are the holy grail for everyone in motorcycling. But rallies continue to attract mainly aging crowds. A recent survey shows that 61 percent of Sturgis Rally attendees are between the ages of 41-65, and 38 percent are ages 41 to 53.

3- Reservations for campgrounds and hotel and motel rooms booked by Black Hills Central Reservations were down about 6 percent for this year’s rally..

4- The city of Sturgis issued 719 vendor licenses in 2011, down 5.5 percent from the 761 issued last year.

Motorcycle. The Best Way To Distance Yourself From The World And To get Closer To Nature.

Always hard to capture the pleasure of riding on film. You climb on your bike just before the sun comes up. Then, it’s magic. A beautiful film for Ducati called “Escaping” by Barry Munsterteiger. Escaping? “The state of having wandering and imaginative thoughts in order to remove one’s self from reality.”

Ed Hardy Limited Edition Motorcycle Leather Jackets

Although some think that there are too many non-bikers wearing Ed Hardy branded clothing, most of them don’t know who was the man. He is a famous, now half retired, American Tattoo Artist who spent many years in Japan studying with Japanese classical tattoo master Horihide to who he was introduced by his mentor Sailor Jerry Collins of Honolulu. His trademark is incorporating Japanese aesthetic in American tattoos. In 2004 Christian Audigier licensed the rights to produce the Ed Hardy clothing line which is based on Hardy’s imagery and that you can find on anything you can wear in any mall in the US and also abroad.

If you don’t like mass production clothing, know also that some pieces are sold in very limited quantity, like these leather motorcycle jackets. These jackets are made with top quality material and have very detailed hardware and graphics depicting some of the most popular tattoos Ed Hardy ever designed. With styles like the men’s “Do or Die” (left) and “Love Kills Slowly” (right) jackets and women’s “True Love/Eternal” (botton) racer jacket. A few available at Rocky Leather

Friends of the motorcycle industry are uniting to help ease the Seeger’s financial burden during their son’s treatment. This is a child who really needs our help. Last week “Aidan Posse Benefit Concert” had an incredible turn out, but it’s not enough. So, if you can, please give a donation for his medical treatment, even if it’s only $5.00.
