Joke Of The Week

rednecks

Tennessee couple, both bona fide rednecks, had 9 children. They went to the doctor to see about getting the husband ‘fixed’. The doctor gladly started the required procedure and asked them what finally made them make the decision.

Why after nine children would they choose to do this? The husband replied that they had read in a recent article that one out of every ten children being born in the United States was Mexican, and they didn’t want to take a chance on having a Mexican baby because neither one of them speak Spanish (From Troy)

Recall On 2005 Big Dog Ridgeback Motorcycles

ridgebackFirst, I want first to mention that when I publish a Recall it’s never intended to express any negative opinion about any manufacturer. All brands, one day or the other will have to issue recalls. Publication is only about safety concerns regarding my readers.

Big Dog Motorcycles is recalling 1257 model year 2005 Ridgeback motorcycles. The rear wheel may have weak spots in the design, which may make the wheel to crack under certain operating conditions. If undetected, this condition may lead to a crash. Dealers will inspect the wheels for evidence of cracking. If the wheel exhibits evidence, BiG Dog will replace it. And if the wheel shows no signs of cracking, customers will be advised to bring it to their dealer for a free inspection every 2500 miles. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

As you have realized now, the European custom scene is expanding exponentially, reason why the Custom Chrome Europe Dealer Show held in Germany is so big and the absolute place to see and to be be seen if you produce anything custom related to the V-Twin industry. Featured here is another example of what you can see, a simple and affordable bike with a lot of charm in its vintage appearance. Designed by Tobias Guckel at TGS Motorcycles, it got a gooseneck frame, black 88″RevTech engine, , a 3″ open belt, a 240 mm rear tire, a simple industrial machine color with a few pinstripes applied by Pfeil Design (photos HRF).

Harley-Davidson Is Talking To Baby Boomers, Young Adults, Women And Minorities…Via The Internet.

harleydavidsonwebsiteAs always, difficult times provide an opportunity to address excess costs and define new strategies and reevaluate new medias to reach your customers. It’s exactly what Harley-Davidson is doing. Mark-Hans Richer, Harley-Davidson’s CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) stated recently “It’s clear that we enjoy a great bond with boomers, but our strategy is to extend age distribution on both sides of the curve”. So, the factory continues to invest in baby-boomer customers (by improving its touring line and marketing its Tri Glide Trike), but is also courting younger adults with its blacked-out Dark Custom Series, women via social online networking and in broadcasting videos for Hispanic riders or Harlistas. I applaud the fact that to implement this multi-generational, multi-cultural marketing campaign, Harley-Davidson relies heavily on the Internet. Every year I wonder what will be the theme of the next Sturgis “Michael Lichter’s Motorcycles As Art Exhibition”. And last week over the phone Michael told me that it is named “Rebel Rousers”, a celebration of all iconic symbols that have defined our motorcycle culture. And these iconic symbols are many things: of course legendary motorcycles but also movies, actors, songs, a piece of motorcycle art, etc. Anything that has inspired us to ride for the 1st time and fueled our unconditional passion for the culture.  Continue reading ‘Michael Lichter’s 9th Annual Motorcycles Art Exhibition To Feature “Rebel Rousers”’

Harley-Davidson Electric Concept Motorcycle

electricharley1electricharley2You would have to travel to Paris where it is in exhibition to see this prototype, admire or criticize it.  When you are 25 years old, just out of design school, your dreams are very big and very green.  French born Nicolas Petit believes that sooner or later all motorcycle brands, including Harley-Davidson will (be obliged to) propose electric models. He also thinks that the same way Harley riders are federated under the same “freedom banner”, electric motorcycle riders will create a new social/bikers group based on environmentally correct values… Continue reading ‘Harley-Davidson Electric Concept Motorcycle’

A New Kind Of Gaskets From G2 Motorsports

g2motorsports1A new kind of gasket!  Developed to withstand more power per cylinder, higher operating temperatures, and thinner head and block castings.  Ideal for both aluminum heads to cast iron blocks and aluminum heads to aluminum blocks.  Two viton coated outer embossed spring steel layers with a steel inner layer provide support to the gasket allowing multiple thicknesses.  Withstands the shearing forces created by aluminum heads on cast iron blocks.  Retains torque (once the gasket takes a torque set, torquing again is not required).  MLS gaskets are stronger, more forgiving, and capable of sealing despite extreme horizontal and vertical motion between the head and block. Different thicknesses are available. Call for other bore sizes and applications. Derek at 800-841-7827. G2 Motorsports.

Deep South Choppers Shockers

I told you before. All small shops eyeing the “Bobber” or “Chopper” limited edition production market, struggling to list these bikes under $20,000. And the heart of these bikes is almost always the Harley Engine 80”/Baker Transmission Combo. Deep South Choppers in Baton Rouge, LA wants you to know that they just introduced their first model as a manufacture. Called the “DSC Shocker, it’s available in 2 versions, “High Voltage” (left) so named because of its mini ape hanger bars, and the “Low Voltage” with drag bars. DSC mentioned to me that they make their frames, gas tanks, bars, battery box, etc. Both models are fitted with Carrera Racing Shocks (Very Bumpy Louisina roads?). Low Voltage MSRP is $ 19,900. High Voltage MSRP $ 20,500. Both bikes will be presented at the New-Orleans Easyriders Bike Show May 7-9 th. Deep South Choppers

Classic Motorcycles To Debut At The Pebble Beach Concours

1958bsaIs it a last minute opportunity offered by the “Legend Of Motorcycles” cancellation due to lack of sponsors? For sure it’s the fact that everybody tries to capitalize in the growing interest for vintage motorcycle?. For the first time in its 59-year history, classic motorcycles will be featured alongside cars at the Pebble Beach Concours this August 16. Organizers are expecting some of the most valuable motorcycles to take their place alongside the classic Ferraris, Bentleys and Bugattis. This year’s event will focus on British bikes built through 1959. The show will also feature Vincents, Indians, Nortons, BSAs, Triumphs, Ariels, etc.

Sarah Palin To Paul Teutul Sr. Let’s Ride….

paulteutulsarahpalinPaul Teutul Sr. went to Alaska to research building a bike to honor the State 50-year anniversary of being a State. And his work of investigation took him to the bearskin couch of Governor Sarah Palin for an “historic” meeting with her. I hear they talked about Alaskan weather, snowmobiling and fishing. What else to talk about? After inviting the OCC crew back for the summer months, she suggested having fun Alaska style, saying, “We’ll ride the bike to the fishing hole” Quite an offer…Not sure the Governor knows how to ride (a sidecar would work) and Tina Fey is rumored to be jealous (photo TLC).

Source Interlink Files For Bankruptcy

sourceinterlinkFirst, on February 3rd I received by email from one of  my sources alarming information regarding Source Interlink, publisher of 75 magazines (including Hot Bike, Street Chopper, Baggers, Motorcycle Cruiser, Motorcyclist, etc). News that the company would probably cease their distribution, was terminating many  high level positions within their motorcycle titles, and was already contemplating filling for Chapter 11 reorganization.

Since then the economy continued its degradation, the numbers provided by ABC (Audit Bureau Of Circulation) indicating that newsstand print magazine sales were falling at a fast pace with advertisers disappearing, cutting their budget and/or transferring it to new successful Online Magazines & Blogs. On Tuesday, Source Interlink filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and at the same time issued a statement where the group declares that there is an ongoing court proceeding for immediate restructuration to operate its business without interruption. International Female Ride Day Is Tomorrow May 1st

femaleridingdayInternational Female Ride Day was started by Vicki Gray the Motoress, to build awareness of female riders everywhere around the world. All motorcycle brands, individuals, clubs are  welcome. The good thing is that no single motorcycle manufacturer is authorized to sponsor this event. It’s only about getting together, emphasizing the many numbers of females who ride motorcycles, supporting their diversities, ageless/limitless abilities and the enjoyment provided by the sport.

Jim Nasi already offers several Bagger Kits for models 97-08. Now, he is launching a new series for 2009 Harley models.

“Cyril, you know that Harley-Davidson changed the frame and a lot of other things with the 2009 models  (thanks guys!). So, I created a new kit specifically for these models. I had some customers that absolutely had to have the triple shot side exhaust (out the side of the bag) and some customers that wanted pipes out the rear. So now I have made it available both ways. Fusion Style Custom Motorcycles

fusion1fusion2

For one-off custom motorcycles, we are beyond the One trend. Beyond the Chopper & Bobber trends. We entered what I call the “Fusion Style”. It doesn’t matter anymore the engine you use, the modern and vintage influence you get, the type of new or old school you belong to, the width of your rims, the style you pursue. After reproducing and re-interpreting the styles of the past, the new rage is to fuse several styles, to mix engines and components of different times to create your own custom motorcycle recipe for a custom bike looking like nothing else. Creativity has always been in mixing parts and colors that “never met” before. Here are examples of 2 tentatives trying to break away from the usual custom mold. Orange County Ducati

ducati1Not a joke. OCC is opening a Ducati Dealership called Ducati Hudson Valley in Newburgh, NY. And of course, the Teutuls will be giving the OCC treament to a new custom L-twin-powered Monster 1100 that will be featured on an upcoming episode of American Chopper on TLC.  The project will include new elements from Ducati’s visual corporate identity, which include, I quote: “custom-made bike stands incorporating graphics tailored to specific motorcycles such as an 848 on a race track or riding a Monster 1100 through curvy mountain roads” (no sure what it means!). Hope they don’t turn a Ducati into a Chopper…

Lost Knucklehead

lostknuckleheadBack in 1970, a company called “Jammer Cycle Products” was born. Offering a righteous collection of frames, wheels, handlebars, gas tanks, sissy bars, front ends and all the stuff you needed to build a chopper, “Jammer” became known as the place that had the “Cool” stuff.  Carrying on the legacy that started 39 years ago, Custom Chrome re-launched the Jammer brand under the responsibility of “Mr. Lucky”, released a brand new “Jammer’s Handbook” chock full of old school goodies that’ll take you right back to the good ‘ol days.  During the Custom Chrome Europe Dealer Show,  Mr. Lucky gave a 1st place award to this “Lost Knuckle” and I think it’s a good inspiration for your new vintage looking project.
