Vintage-Style Café Racer With A 180 HP Electric Motor

sp7The Saroléa SP7 marks the return of a Belgian motorcycle brand after half a century, If Saroléa doesn’t sound familiar, that’s because the Belgian marque is returning to motorcycles after 50 years. The company was founded in 1850 as an arms and munitions m aker, then moved on to bicycles and eventually motorcycles. It disappeared after merging with another Belgian motorcycle company, Gillet Herstal. It’s a leading-edge machine with a carbon fiber frame and swingarm. Saroléa claims 130 KW good for 180 hp with the bike hitting 60 mph from a standstill in 2.8 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. (photo @ Robert Mitchell/Stillmation)

Harley-Davidson Sidecar Replica For Big Twins 1936-1958

sidecarreplica1sidecarreplica2In the early part of the 20th Century, motorcycling became a family activity. The most comfortable way to share your adventures on wheels with your wife, children and friends was to attach a sidecar to your motorcycle. Then during WWII the military found this setup one of the most convenient ways for ground transportation and reach the enemy lines. Some keep the nostalgia of these vintage sidecars now quite difficult to find and restore. If sidecar frames can be found in fairly repairable condition, gondolas are almost always in very bad shape. A Hard Hitting Street Legal Roadster Bred On American Dirt

LEE1LEE2This headline is not from me. There are the words from Harley-Davidson when the company launched the Sportster XR1200, a model paying homage to the fabled XR-750 flat-track racer. When I featured it in 2009 (it was introduced first in Europe, then in the US), you all seemed to be pleased with the vintage street-tracker styling reminiscent of the machine Calvin Rayborn (1940-1973) raced in the 60’s, giving Harley-Davidson two consecutive Daytona 200 victories in 1968 and 1969 (he also set two 1970 motorcycle land speed records.) Follow-up road tests proved that the new XR1200 was by far the best performing and handling production Sportster ever produced by Harley. LEE3LEE4So, what a custom builder to do when a client brings his 2010 XR 1200 to make it more unique? Of course, make it run a little bit faster and on this project make it look road race ready while throwing in a touch of racing nostalgia. Shaw Speed & Custom from East Sussex, UK is not a beginner at customizing Sportsters and has already explored many styling directions, from Cafe Racer to Moto Cross to Super Moto.
