Joke Of The Day

cyril-huze-joke44A Guy stuck his head into a barbershop and asked, ‘How long before I can get a haircut? The barber looked around the shop full of customers and said, ‘About 2 hours.’The guy left. A few days later, the same guy stuck his head in the door and asked, ‘How long before I can get a haircut?’ The barber looked around at the shop and said, ‘About 3 hours.’ The guy left. A week later, the same guy stuck his head in the shop and asked, ‘How long before I can get a haircut?’ The barber looked around the shop and said, ‘About an hour and a half’. The guy left.

The barber turned to his friend and said, ‘Hey, Bob, do me a favour , follow him and see where he goes. He keeps asking how long he has to wait for a haircut, but he never comes back’ A little while later, Bob returned to the shop, laughing hysterically. The barber asked, ‘So, where does he go when he leaves?’ Bob looked up, wiped the tears from his eyes and said…. ‘Your house’

Best Custom At 2013 Swiss Performance Show

69-269-369-169-6 69-5Some bike shows reward the most original radical bikes (some will read unrideable.) Others give the gold to the custom project closest to what people want to ride and could possibly build in their garage or request to be done by their local shop. Because your emails always remind me that you want publication of the right mix (which one?) of state-of-the-art motorcycles with those you can realistically dream of, I feature this Springer Softail, a good example of what can be accomplished for both ride and show… and ride again. Harley-Davidson Issues A Recall On 2014 Model Year Trikes

harleytrike2014All the trikes affected were manufactured between July 24, 2013 and September 2, 2013. The recall is due to an incorrectly machined part which may result in allowing the motorcycle to have an “excessive steering angle” allowing the inner fairing to contact the brake fluid reservoir resulting in a loss of brake fluid.” There is also a possibility that the steering damper may be damaged as well. Former Marine Sues Harley-Davidson Dealership For Exploiting His PTSD To Sell Him A New Motorcycle

5678A 25 yo former Marine named Brett Smit is alleging that a Harley-Davidson dealership in Irvine, California took advantage of his PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) to sell him with a brand new motorcycle. In a first case ever of this nature, on October 30th the Marine has filed a lawsuit against the dealership. Smith claims that he entered the dealership in early April and purchased the $17,000 bike. According to court documents his family attempted to return the bike two days later claiming the man had purchased it after being awake for five continuous days due to insomnia and wasn’t thinking straight.

Smith’s attorney, Daniel states that the former Marine was a member of the Special Forces and was deployed to Afghanistan. He was discharged from the service in 2010 due to his PTSD diagnosis and traumatic brain injury. “That day is very much a dream-like recollection to him,” said Gilleon. “He wasn’t completely aware of what he was doing. At one point, the salesperson even gave him water so that he could take his Xanax. He took three while he was there.” Continue reading ‘Former Marine Sues Harley-Davidson Dealership For Exploiting His PTSD To Sell Him A New Motorcycle’

Intrust Bank Takes Control Of All Big Dog Property. BDM Performance Products Ceased Operation.

BDMIn 2011, after Big Dog Motorcycles went bankrupt, founder Sheldon Coleman started a small company in one of Big Dog’s former warehouse called Big Dog Motorcycle Performance Products (BDM), selling parts to Big Dog owners to maintain their bikes.

For his new venture Coleman took new loans from Intrust Bank totaling more than 20 million for a monthly payment of $90,000 secured by Big Dog buildings and several of Coleman’s investment and personal entities. On Oct. 15, 2013 Intrust Bank started a lawsuit to foreclose on the real estate. On November 1st, a Judge transferred all Big Dog Property, all equipment and 7 remaining motorcycles kept in the window of one building, to Intrust Bank.

The parties have agreed that the property transferred represents only a value of $860,000 against the total debt. The judge has still to decide the status of other collateral offered by Sheldon Coleman to secure the loans. BDM Performance Products was never a profitable business and consequently shut down on November 1st.

1000 Biker Tattoos

1000tattoos11000Tattoos21000tattoos3Since I publish this news website – already 7 years – I must have written a dozen of book reviews regarding the art of tattoos. So, why one more? Not because it was released just a few days ago, but because as far as I know, it’s the only one specifically and exclusively dedicated to the tattoos of bikers.

Because they have long been an integral part of the motorcycle culture, biker tattoos are of a variety of themes and graphics that can’t be found in other groups, even among soldiers and sailors, although many are bikers.

It took Sara Liberte years of traveling to motorcycle events to shoot the 1000 + best pieces of art that bikers have inked on their bodies. Images showing how bikers feel about themselves and others, marking their rites of passage, showing symbols of spiritual and religious devotion, inking their successes and failures, making pledges of love, of rebellion, of punishment, showing amulets and talismans, symbolizing their identification to a particular group or club, etc. Continue reading ‘1000 Biker Tattoos’

Carlini Designs Sues Paul Yaffe In Federal Court For Patents Infringement

gangsterapeevilapeCarlini Designs, based in Santa Ana, California, specializes since 1969 in high-quality aftermarket parts for Harley Davidson and custom motorcycles. The company filed a federal lawsuit against Paul Yaffe Designs  (dba Paul Yaffe Originals & Bagger Nation) based in Phoenix, Arizona, also maker of handlebars, alleging patents infringement for the 2 models “Evil Apes” and “Gangster Apes”. According to the lawsuit, filed in federal court on Oct. 24, 2013, Paul Yaffe Designs was notified in April of this year that Carlini’s “Evil Apes” and “Gangster Apes” handlebars were protected by design patents, and the company was asked to discontinue selling and shipping the copied or knockoff products. Harley-Davidson Street 750 And 500 Motorcycles. The Street Is Where I live (Part 4)

Harley-Davidson Street 750 And 500 Reveal In Milan. The Video. (Part 3)

Yesterday evening November 4, 2013 in Milan, the new Harley-Davidson Street 750 and 500 reveal moment with Mark-Hans Richer, Harley-Davidson Chief Marketing Officer and Frank Savage, Styling Manager, brought the motorcycles into the public eye for the first time.

New Harley-Davidson Street 750 And Street 500. First Known Details (Part 2)

street1Street8These 2 models represent an agressive move, but one that many in the industry, including myself, were expecting.

These last years, it became increasingly clear that future motorcycle sales growth will not come from the big, heavy and expensive motorcycles, but from smaller ones to expand the domestic market before the baby boomers are gone, and from tapping the booming emerging markets. Offering a smaller, lighter, lower, more manageable and more affordable motorcycle to please smaller riders, youngsters, women is a logical marketing choice that you should applaud if you believe in the future of Harley-Davidson.

The Street should be assembled in Kansas, MO for the US market (where is already assembled the Dyna and Sportster and  where are built powertrains for the V-Rod) and also in India for this country and as a hub of exportation to Europe and other emerging markets, especially those located in Southeast Asia. When the Street will hit dealers in selected markets in 2014, the MSRP’s should be $6700 for the 500 model, $7500 for the 750 model. Of importance, Harley-Davidson will be able again to supply motorcycles for its own Riders Edge program, a rider training series for first-time riders requiring  a motorcycle not exceeding 500cc. During the Erik Buell association years, Harley was using the 500cc Buell Blast for this purpose.

Custom Harley Blackline By Shaw Speed & Custom

drey1Drey2Drey3Drey4Drey5You already know through my features that South Of England based Shaw Speed & Custom is not your average official Harley-Davidson dealer. Now in its 11th year, the dealership has won the prestigious Bar and Shield 6 times with the Shaw Speed Custom division collecting gold in many important European bike shows and even a 1st place in the AMD World Championship Of Bike Building, something that no other Harley dealer has ever accomplished…

Drey6Drey7Named “Drey”, this new creation was built for a client with too many passions. All passions he would have liked Shaw Speed & Custom to express on his new custom motorcycle. The challenge, as any good custom builder will tell you, is to integrate a client’s DNA without patching together ideas and parts not relating to each other. Expressing the owner’s personality, yes of course. Showing all faces of his personality on one machine, impossible except to produce a monster on 2 wheels full of incoherence, of conflicting lines and of mismatched parts. The first essential quality of a great custom builder is to understand a client, not to build only what he wants but to create what he dreams of, very often without him being able to precisely describe it.
