The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) reports that Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner from Wisconsin, announced Monday, April 15th that he will file a bill to prohibit the federal funding of motorcycle only roadside checkpoints.
Sensenbrenner had this to say in a “Dear Colleague” that is circulating in the House of Representatives. “In the 112th Congress, I introduced H.R. 904, a bill to prohibit the Department of Transportation (DOT) from providing funds to state and local authorities for the purpose of creating motorcycle only checkpoints. Section 1 of the Stop Motorcycle Checkpoint Funding Act contains the same language as H.R. 904. However, this bill also contains language to force the DOT to focus motorcycle safety efforts on crash prevention programs, not national helmet mandates.”
The bill will officially be introduced on May 6, 2013 and get its official bill number then. It’s important to contact your sitting member of the House of Representatives and ask them to be an original cosponsor of this important legislation. Ask them to contact Congressman James Sensenbrenner and lend their support. An “Original Cosponsor” is someone who supports the bill before it is made public and is a way to strongly support a new bill. The more original cosponsors the better. SU Carburetor History: Back in the early 70’s, Rivera got its start when Mel Magnet (The Founder of Rivera Engineering) took off SU carburetors from some British cars and did some magic to adapt them to Harleys. In 1974, Custom Chopper Magazine sponsored the “Search for King Carb” shoot-out between all the top carburetors back then to find the “King of Carbs”. And guess who won hands down? The Rivera SU. Fast forward forty years and Rivera Primo Inc. is still making the SU to Rivera Primo standards.
Applications: When Rivera started making the SU back in the 70’s, there wasn’t any Evo’s or Twin Cams even on the drawing board yet, so all the kits we made were for Iron XL’s, Knuckles, Pans and Shovels. Rainey won his titles in 1990, 1991 and 1992 while riding for Yamaha in addition to two U.S. Superbike Championships in 1983 and 1987. Rainey will be displaying his world-championship Yamaha YZR500.

Harley-Davidson Has Indicated That More Than 60 Acts Will Perform At Its 110th Anniversary Celebration. The company released a list of 28 of those bands, Harley-Davidson added Toby Keith and Aerosmith with Steven Tyler to headline the Marcus Amphitheater respectively Aug. 29 and 30. Tickets for both shows, as well as Kid Rock’s, go on sale at 8 a.m. May 6 at Harley 110 Tickets . Prices for the individual shows have yet to be disclosed.

The unveiling of Yamaha’s plans comes amid stiff competition and challenges in the motorcycle sector as well as India’s wider motor vehicle industry. India is the second-largest market for motorcycles in the world after China.
BMW To Manufacture Motorcycles With Indian Company. German auto manufacturer BMW which also makes big cruisers, announced an agreement with India’s TVS Motor Co. to produce small-engine motorcycles. “The aim of the cooperation is to join forces to develop and produce motorcycles in the segment below 500 cubic centimeters,” the German group said in a written statement. TVS Motor Co. is one of India’s largest motorcycle manufacturers, producing annually 2 million vehicles and with a turnover of more than $1 billion.

Auction house Bonhams said it plans to sell this 1914 Indian Model F racing motorcycle, once owned by the late actor Steve McQueen, during its April 28 sale at the International Classic MotorCycle Show in Stafford, England. The Model F is an early board-track racer from an era when racing motorcycles on banked wooden tracks was extremely popular. This purpose-built bike and the machines it competed against generally had no clutch, throttle or brakes. They were push-started and ran “wide-open” at speeds up to 100 mph.
