After the shock of knowing that Bruce Rossmeyer was killed on a motorcycle, you all wondered what really happened. It’s too late to blame anyone. The only thing I can report is what says the official police report (From WYDOT, Accident Records, 5300 Bishop Blvd. Cheyenne, Wyoming 82009. (307)777-4450).
“The roadway at the time of the crash was dry with clear weather conditions. Both vehicles were eastbound on WYO 28. Rossmeyer was traveling with a group of five other motorcycles. Rossmeyer was behind the VanValkenburg vehicle which was pulling a 2 axle camper style trailer. VanValkenburg braked and used his vehicles left turn signal to indicate he was going to make a turn from WYO 28 onto a small dirt road. Continue reading ‘Bruce Rossmeyer Accident. What Happened?’

A Wisconsin man will stand out at this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. Steve “Doc” Hopkins is riding his custom-made 10-seat Harley-Davidson 900 miles to the South Dakota Rally. The 24-foot-long very custom bike features seven different engines, some of which date back 100 years. “It’s like a rolling history of Harley Davidson’s engines since 1909 to present” Hopkins said. See him (them) getting started. Only in South Dakota…
George’s Leather Design has a new product for all of you bikers that don’t seem to have enough pockets. George Grieco call them mini cases, and they are a good place to carry all you need to carry because we are in 2009 and everybody, or almost everybody, has a cel. phone, an iPod, Credit Cards in addition to keys and maybe a pack or cigarette and lighter. These cases are made using high quality leather and vinyl. And they come in a variety of styles and colors and can be custom ordered to match your leather jacket or bike seat, for example. Velcro is used in the lid so it can be adjusted to fit what you are carrying. A pocket for credit cards comes in handy, and a belt loop holds it securely to your side. Check them out and also saddlebags, tool rolls, tank panels, etc by jumping to George’s Leather Design geoleather.com

I say it one more time. If you can change only one thing on your motorcycle to give it a completely new look, change your wheels and pulley & rotors. And if you build a bike from the ground up, picking the right wheels is one of the first choices you will have to make and it will greatly affect the entire design of your new custom, whatever the final lines of your fabrication work. As you know the design options are numerous and the name of the game is to pick a design that others don’t use…yet. So, you’re better off knowing the latest releases. And I give you 2 new ones from Pro-One, one of the leaders of billet wheels made in the USA. And yes, they do all sizes up to the 23” in all widths you may need for Harleys, Metrics and Customs, in polish, chromed, black anodizing and black cut contrast. On the left the new “Spitball” and on the right the new “Tight” models. And they sell factory direct. Call 909-445-0900 or visit Pro-One for more wheel designs and other custom accessories

July 30, 09, 3.00 pm EST. It’s with infinite sadness that I inform all of you that Bruce Rossmeyer was killed this morning around 11.15 am, local hour, near Rock Springs, Wyoming while riding his motorcycle with a group of 5 friends. The group was riding from Denver, CO to join this afternoon the yearly Hamster’s ride to Sturgis. Although the details of the accident are still sketchy, his riding friends tell me that Bruce Rossmeyer was the last of the group to pass a Recreational Vehicle when apparently this same RV went left in his lane. I read your comments and of course I disagree with many of them. One being that in a difficult economic situation people are systematically going to go for for a cheaper Harley-Davidson model. I never believed that a biker wishing to ride a new V-Rod or Softail or Electra Glide is going to buy a new Sportster because it’s cheaper. My opinion is that he will not buy anything, keep his current bike and tinker with it until better times. Continue reading ‘Harley-Davidson Management Acknowledges Marketing Mistake’

Do you like the extra shine of a Diamond Cut® on your engine?. In the past, if you were looking for a Diamond Cut motor from Ultima®, you either had to buy an unassembled Ultima motor or dis-assemble their complete motor before sending the parts to be Diamond Cut & then re-assembling. A lot of lost time and money. Not anymore.
Now you can get a Diamond Cut® factory assembled Ultima engine for very little additional cost. These Diamond Cut® engines are available in black, natural, polished in displacements ranging from 100″ to 140″. Performance is good. Looks too. Ultima Products.
Recently I got the question. Where can I find a nice custom rubbermount frame for Sportster? So, I thought that some of you would like to know that Rolling Thunder Frames has a Drop Seat Rubbermounted Sportster frame accepting the latest Sportster motors. Like all Rolling Thunder frames it accepts most stock parts and is available in multiple stretches and rakes. The one shown here is the basic frame with 1 1/2″ OD tubes, dual down tubes with 0″upstretch, no backbone stretch, accepting up to a 250 mm rear tire. But again, Rolling Thunder can make it following your wish list. Rolling Thunder Frames.
Believe it or not, Adjure, the specialist of custom lighting for motorcycles is doing a Christmas Sale during July & August! 50% off on selected items !!! Does it sound like Christmas? I would be you I would not wait Christmas to order new lights- Smog Checks in California. The bill provision requiring mandatory motorcycle smog testing for motorcycles built in 2000 and later has been dropped. Instead, Sen. Fran altered SB 435 to authorize law enforcement officers to fine motorcyclists who remove smog equipment from their motorcycles. The amended bill eventually passed 22-17. The bill now goes to the Assembly and if passed will go to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Continue reading ‘Fast Motorcycle Industry News’

Belgium Custom Builder Fred Krugger asked me not to publish anything until him and his new bike land in Sturgis. Now that both are in Lakota territory, you can admire “Overmile” another racing inspired custom motorcycle (Fred is a former Enduro & Motocross Racer), this one a mix of Ducati Hypermotard and XR 750. The build list includes a 103” S-Series engine, a Baker 6-Speed Powerbox, 2.5 gallon gas tank on the back fairing and under the seat, Pneumatic Pan Cruise from Fournales, an on-board air compressor etc. in a 70’s looking body. Another fine example of the now very popular “retro-volution” style mixing tradition and modern technology. . See it during the Sturgis Rally anywhere there is a road, a track…or a bike show. Of course you want to look good, to sound good and to go faster. You don’t necessarily need to trade your engine, just upgrade it. Of course S&S Cycle would like to sell you one of his engines. But if you got the itch for more performance and a new engine is not right now in your budget, their website lists some tricks to improve your existing motor.
Displacement tricks up to 70 HP. Replacement tricks up to 30 HP. And a line of bolt-on parts adding up to 10 HP. It’s up to you and your budget. See them listed at S&S Cycle.
