The 21st Annual World Famous Custom Motorcycles Bike Show is set for Thursday August 6th at a new location, the Sturgis Champions Park on Laxelle Street. As always in addition to the custom bikes competing in 24 different classes for a trophy, bragging rights and a couple of kisses from the Rat Mates, there will be a pinup and tattoo contest (not by the same participants!), music and door prizes. We all know that Harley-Davidson wants to celebrate women riders. Harley-Davidson will host its third annual Women’s Day on Sunday, August 2, 2009, during the 69th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. The Motor Company will also offer a variety of activities for women throughout the rally between August 1-7, 2009, at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, including an interactive women’s area featuring motorcycle and product information, seminars and giveaways (picture “The Enthusiast Girl”, H-D Archives, Copyright Harley-Davidson) .
During Women’s Day, the Motor Company will offer special seminars focused on teaching women how to customize their motorcycle for fit, function and style, healthy eating tips while out on the road and best practices for conducting a pre-ride safety check. Joint Venture Between Leroy Thompson and Darwin Motorcycles

Not surprisingly a wave of small custom motorcycle companies agreements, consolidations, joint ventures just started in the industry. After an agreement between Indian Kiwi and Klock Werks, it’s now the turn of Leroy Thompson and Darwin Motorcycles (Brass Balls Bobbers) to join forces to weather a stormy economy and make their respective businesses more profitable to build a steady future. Scott Webster of Leroy Thompson prefers to design and fabricate intricate motorcycle parts and one-off bikes but considers himself a poor marketer. Dar Holdsworth at Brass Balls Bobbers builds limited edition reasonably priced motorcycles and is more inclined in marketing and promotion. So, under the signed deal Darwin Motorcycles will market wholesale and retail the Leroy Thompson line of parts and of course use them on its builds.

He enters the only hotel in the sleepy town and lays a $100 bill on the desk stating he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night. Karl Lagerfeld, head designer and creative director for the fashion house Chanel knows a few things about the power of image. This Monday, Rue Royale, Paris, France. Fashion Diva Karl Lagerfeld shows up to meet with 2 models for the photo shoot of his press kit for the Chanel’s pre-spring collection called “Starting Point”. Star of the photo shoot (after himself, of course), not the 2 models, but this vintage custom motorcycle apparently built in France (looking for the Builder). It”s a Triton (name given to a motorcycle 1/2 Triumph and 1/2 Norton). Anyway, don’t you love when old motorcycles become fashion icons to the point to eclipse top models? Harley-Davidson Production To Shut Down For 14 Weeks

Harley-Davidson Sportster and V-Rod motorcycle final assembly operations and V-Rod motorcycle powertrain production in Kansas City, and production of Sportster motorcycle powertrains in Wauwatosa will be shut down for approximately 14 weeks in 2009, including the entire fourth quarter. The company anticipates that other production operations will be shut down for a total of approximately five weeks over the rest of 2009. Harley-Davidson plans production shutdowns and line rate adjustments at powertrain operations in Menomonee Falls and Wauwatosa, Wis., and at motorcycle assembly operations in York, Pa., and Kansas City, Mo.
