Like burgers and ketchup Bikes and Diners mix very well with each other. This motorcycle was created by Garrison as a theme bike for a television show called “DINERS” which will air Sunday, October 5th at 6pm on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV). “DINERS” captures the joy of being on a motorcycle and finding those out-of-the-way classic eateries that invite travelers in for a simple home-cooked meal and friendly conversation while transporting them back in time. In a former Article about “motorcycle noise”, I posted a link to an Essay written on this topic by Jim McCaslin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Tom Zimberoff, “Chief Chopperating Officer” and best selling author of the 2 hard cover books “Art Of The Chopper” I & II, wrote this open letter to answer Jim McCaslin statements.
“Dear Jim. If I may offer a few reasons why, let me ask you to give second thought to your position about “loud” exhaust pipes. I hope you will lend the author of perhaps the best-selling book about motorcycles in publication an open mind. Your Web article begins perceptively and articulately, but the question you ask about what riders can do to appease those who vilify motorcycles is misconceived. Continue reading ‘Loud Pipes. Here the plan. Bring a Buell Thunderbolt (or it will be provided). Guilty Customs will use most of the components of the donor bike, install them on a Twisted Choppers frame, fab in-house all other components, convert the new bike to a chain drive, and as a result you get a very reasonably priced and aggressive custom benefiting from the reliability of HD components. It will only cost you $8000 (raw metal), or $10,000 (pinstriped). Guilty Customs

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Tuesday announced it has charged San Francisco-based Dudley Perkins Co. Harley dealership with sex discrimination for not allowing a qualified woman to work as a mechanic. The EEOC alleges that although Bowen Dean was hired as a mechanic, the company had her work in customer service and bookkeeping. Dean was hired June 23, 2003 as an entry-level lot technician and was repeatedly passed over for mechanical jobs by men with less experience. In February 2006, Dean filed a sex discrimination charge with the EEOC, which said that as a result she was fired two months later. My only comment is that I always wanted to have at least one female mechanic working for me. But never found one to hire. And right now I am not recruiting…

G Squared Motorsports was initially formed in 2003 as a collaboration between Bryce and Smith to field an S&S powered V-Twin NHRA drag bike. As an example of their work, they combined the craftsmanship of S&S Cycle and their own innovation to produce something powerful and fast. Dyno runs have the 126 making over 150 rear wheel horsepower & it delivers the most torque of any engine in class – over 145 ft. lbs. These 4-3/8″ bore engines have similar general specifications to the original S&S “Tribute” 145 engines, but the new 126 is a dual cam design combined with big valve B2 heads for ultimate performance. After the Servi-Car (introduced in 1932) and the launch of the new Tri-Glide Ultra Classic for 2009, rumor is that Harley-Davidson is about to launch a new trike with 2 wheels upfront and pivoting on an independent parallelogram to help the bike lean like a motorcycle. It has to be confirmed (Harley didn’t comment) but the 3-wheeler would be equipped with a V-Rod Engine (could it be called the Tri-Rod?), and could be shown at the Intermot Motorcycle and Scooter Fair in Cologne, Germany (October 8-12). During the recent Dealers Meeting at their Wichita, KS headquarters Big Dog Motorcycles introduced the 2009 Big Dog Bulldog. For any motorcycle manufacturer having a bagger in its line is a must. So no surprise here. The question is how to differentiate your model(s) to conquer a market share dominated by Harley-Davidson. Evidently by proposing cosmetic solutions that one-off bike builders already apply since a long time to factory bikes: always a lowered stance with aerodynamic bags and windshields/fairings, stretched gas tanks and fancy paint jobs. I would bet that this new Big Dog Bagger is going to carry all the line in 2009. For next year Big Dog Motorcycles also announced another model called the Coyote.

The New York Times (thanks Rodent), published an article explaining how EPA intends to remove millions of pounds of lead from the environment. The target is lead weights clipped on the sides of your wheels to balance your tires to avoid vibrations at high speed. And if you didn’t know, EPA tells you that sooner or later your lead weights are going to fly off your wheels, then get ground down, with the toxin finding it’s way into the air, in the water supply and even our farmers’ fields! EPA launched a campaign aimed at phasing out the use of lead wheel weights by the year 2011. National Lead Free Wheel Weight Initiative.

America is struggling trying to manage its debts. But you still want to ride something else than a factory bike. The boys at Savage Cycles have a solution that would be approved by FED Chairman Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Paulson because both of them want you to live and ride within or under your means. The “Goblin” is built using a Buell powerplant with the frame and several components built in house. For 15 K, you even get a custom paint job. Recession proof. Savage Cycles in Maryland.

As you know stiff regulations oblige manufacturers to set their engines with a very lean air/fuel mixture with for consequence some robbed performance and high cylinder head temperatures. All new motorcycles/engines are affected by lean air/fuel mixtures and the problem is even more extreme on fuel injected models. Many among you would like to improve their engine performance and the same time make it run cooler. It’s not easy to alter the signals from the stock Harley electronic control module (ECM) to richen air/fuel mixture and boost performance. Continue reading ‘Cool Down Everybody’

(From Lorena Anderson at Myrtle Beach Online)
All 15 of Myrtle Beach’s proposed bike rally options have become law, though with some modifications.
At this morning’s city council workshop, rally proponents raised objections to some details and some entire proposals, like the one that requires riders to wear helmets and protective eyewear within city limits. Of all the proposals designed to curtail the May motorcycle rallies that draw more than 300,000 to the Grand Strand each year, the helmet law is the least popular among rally supporters.
