The Musket by Hazan Motorworks is probably the closest you can find to the definition of motorcycle work of art. Brooklyn-based artist Maxwell Hazan
hand-built this machine around a 1000cc v-twin engine created from 2 Royal Enfield 500cc engines.
Aluminum bodywork massaged after creating wood templates is absolutely flawless and is conceived to emphasize the beauty of the one-off motor. The walnut wood seat is also a piece of art and is coated in 15 layers of polyurethane lacquer, then polished to perfection with the finish quality of a Steinway Piano. The Quinn Jacket features a host of hidden features and subtle technical enhancements that take it from the realm of fashion wear to real riding gear. “Women don’t necessarily want to look like a MotoGP racer but they want to be comfortable on the bike and look good” says Roland Sands, the former racer who has worn plenty of road racing leathers in his day. “But make no mistake, this is a performance-fit riding jacket, not a fashion accessory.”
The Quinn jacket combines rotated, pre-curved sleeves and dropped back length with an aggressive riding fit. “You will fall in love with the soft and supple top grain leather,” he adds. Unlike stiff race wear, the Quinn forms to your body and provides an ease in movement like you won’t find in an average riding jacket. “Combine all this with our silky satin poly lining, perforated leather panel sleeve inserts and you have a jacket that is just as comfortable and sexy on or off your bike.”
RSD’s standard attention to detail means power stretch shoulder panels for ease of motion, a relaxed collar opening and zip close cuffs. Zippered panels at the waist enable the Quinn to conform to the curves for a custom-tailored look off the bike, while armor-ready pockets in the shoulders, elbow and back make it ready for action when you are on the bike. Available in Black and Tan, MSRP: $550. Roland Sands Jackets.
John O’Reilly hoisted his beer and said, “Here’s to spending the rest of me Life, between the legs of me wife!” That won him the top prize at the pub for the Best Toast Of The night.
He went home and told his wife, Mary, “I won the prize for the Best Toast of The night.” She said, “And what was your toast?” John said, “Here’s to spending the rest of me life, sitting in church beside me wife.” “Oh, that is very nice indeed, John!” Mary said.
The next day, Mary ran into one of John’s drinking buddies on the street corner. The man chuckled leeringly and said, “John won the prize the other night at the pub with a toast about you, Mary.” She said, “He told me, and I was a bit surprised myself. You know, he’s only been in there twice in the last four years. Once I had to pull him by the ears to make him come, and the other time he fell asleep”
Partners Alan Stulberg and Stefan Hertel at Revival Cycles think that “a motorcycle should be more than a machine, an aesthetic expression that demonstrates the beauty of purposeful form.” The Austin shop has built some remarkable motorcycles and this modern interpretation of the record-breaking 1928 BMW R37 ridden by Ernst Henne is another example of their passion for the craft. There is no light, no battery on this machine because, although rideable (see video below) it will end up being exhibited in shows or kept in a private collection. A rebuilt airhead engine, a custom frame built from flat-cut steel instead of tubing, no brakes, a signature exhaust ready to growl and you thrill just looking at it…

With the Motorcycle Industry Council’s (MIC) acquisition of the American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) last fall, both the industry’s trade association and premier trade show united for the greater benefit of MIC members and for the powersports industry as a whole. Working together as one, the MIC is pleased to announce key new benefits for exhibiting members at AIMExpo 2016, scheduled for October 13-16 at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center (OCCC). In addition, special introductory membership pricing is now available for 2016 AIMExpo exhibitors not yet a part of the MIC’s family of industry companies.
MIC member companies exhibiting at this year’s fourth annual show will be eligible for a show credit of $100 per 10’x10′ booth purchased, with a total maximum credit of up to 50% of annual paid dues. The financial benefit for member exhibitors can either be applied toward booth investment, or to enhanced show branding and promotional opportunities across the AIMExpo platform.
“MIC’s mission to preserve, protect and promote motorcycling, aligns seamlessly with the vision and platform of AIMExpo, offering the industry the most efficient and effective opportunity to conduct face-to-face business with every aspect of the marketplace,” said Tim Buche, MIC President. “The introduction of increased member benefits has been an anticipated synergy of MIC and AIMExpo, and this adds significant tangible value for exhibiting member companies. It’s also important to note that overall proceeds from the show are reinvested directly back into the industry, supporting MIC activities that benefit all members.” Continue reading ‘Motorcycle Industry Council Introduces New Benefits to Members Exhibiting At AIMExpo 2016’
Inspired by factory race bikes of the 1940’s, this cut-down, classic style gas tank will particularly look cool on Knucklehead, Panhead and Shovelhead custom motorcycles.
The WX Gas Tank are directly influenced by the Harley-Davidson WR, but with an innovative design that allows these new gas tanks to fit almost half-century’s worth of motorcycle frames.
In 1946 Harley-Davidson introduced the WR factory racer, a 45 cubic-inch flathead designed to dominate the flat tracks and road courses in America. The narrowed tanks were part of the slim profile of these machines. The WX Gas tank feature an innovative rear mount to bolt right up to your stock Harley-Davidson Big Twin frame from 1936 to 1984.

“Cyril. With Conrad’s passing in 2012 I realized that it was the end of the Nicklus name. He was the only male child in the family. I also realized that my children are ninth generation Texans. I further realized that I had been born and raised in Texas my entire life and I really didn’t know where I came from….I knew I came from Texas but what is Texas? I have been to every major city in the state and most mid-sized cities as well but I had never been into the bowels of the state to see the real Texas. I wanted to see and talk to the people that helped make this state great…..I wanted to talk to the old oil men, cattlemen, farmers, ranchers etc. before they were gone forever. So what I decided to do was to come up with a plan to do just that and do that on the back of a motorcycle.
Unfortunately Lady Luck had something very different in mind for me. As you are aware I was diagnosed with a very serious case of cancer and only given a 20% chance of survival. During my year and a half battle with the Big “C” I continued to think of the “adventure” I needed to take just as soon as I kicked cancer’s ass. Well, I have kicked cancer’s ass and now it is time for the adventure to start.
The plan is as follows: I built a bike to make the ride (see the enclosed pictures) actually I built two bikes for the trip but more on that later. I am going to take 30 days, the entire month of April, to head out to discover Texas. I am going to try and confine the ride as many two lanes roads as possible, of course that will not be possible 100% of the time but you get the idea. I have three friends who are coming in to start the ride with me, my brother from another mother, and owns nine Desperado Motorcycles, from Seattle ( I built bike #2 for him to make the ride on), a good friend from Denver, who has two Desperado’s and a local longtime friend from here in Houston. We leave the morning of April 1st (yes, I know that is April Fool’s day) and head to Washington on the Brazos, the Birthplace of Texas, for our official start of the ride. During 13 frenetic years, custom building shop “Radical Custom” created some of the world’s fastest and best designed custom Ducatis. But because of a too hectic professional life, the fun of custom building was gone for French/Spanish builder Pepo Rosell, After a one year break to rethink his life, he realized that his passion for custom motorcycles was intact and decided to start a new shop with a new philosophy: less business and more fun working on many different brand platforms.
This Dyna is his first work on a Harley. A client dropped it at his Madrid based “Extreme Pepo” new shop with only one specific requirement. Make it a two-up. For the rest Rosell remained in charge, and since he loves the 60’s and 70’s dirt trackers, this particular style of bikes influenced this build. Paying homage to the glory days of flat track racing by emulating the pared down look of a dirt tracker is not easy when you need to provide a road legal custom motorcycle.
One of the most popular platforms for street trackers is definitely the Yamaha XS650, with its reliable vertical twin once used by Kenny Roberts on the track. In the Harley lineup, the Sportster is another hugely popular street tracker platform. In fact, you can just buy the XR1200 which is based on the legendary XR750. So, what to do with a Dyna to be ridden with a passenger? Continue reading ‘Gabrielle. A Harley Dyna Wants To Become A Tracker.’

When Victory teased the unveiling of a Modern American Muscle model inspired by the Pikes Peak Project 156 racer, apparently it meant many different things to my readers. You just need to read again the comments that popped up under my feature during the official launch on February 19th. Some imagined a sport chassis design never seen before, a brand new power plant and a mount featuring mid-controls. Instead, many mentioned right away the engine and chassis design similarities with the Indian Scout, forward controls included, wondering if the Octane was only a marketing coup, a muscled-up version of his Polaris cousin. So, let me first address this topic.
Engineers at Polaris are aware that they created and own a very unique reliable platform that can be declined to satisfy different type of riders with different wish lists. So, yes the Scout and Octane share the same chassis architecture – but not the same frame – and the same engine – but tweaked differently – for 2 models that will attract different categories of bikers with nuanced expectations. An approach similar to all those of successful manufacturers in the automotive industry.
Victory and Indian are separate divisions, working independently, but sharing the same Polaris resources. So, before getting a chance to road test the new Victory in Daytona it was important for me to know how each of them went in a different direction to create 2 different products for different market targets.
Main numbers sound like this. Frame: Octane 29 deg. rake and 5.1” trail compared to Scout 29-deg.rake and 4.7” trail. Wheelbase: Octane 62.1” vs Scout 61.5”. Seat height: Octane 25.9” vs. Scout 25.3”. Engine. The Octane got slightly taller cylinders, gaining 46 cc versus the Scout for a total displacement of 1179 cc. Octane’s heads, cylinders, camshafts, motor covers are unique. Final-drive ratio: Octane 7% shorter gearing for 14% more rear wheel extra torque in all gears. Continue reading ‘Victory Octane. How Many Shots Of Adrenaline Do You Need?’
During these last weeks I was contacted by clients of Darwin Motorcycles (Brass Balls Bobbers) owned by Dar Holdsworth asking me if I could shed some light on the status of the Oklahoma custom shop. These clients, located in the US and abroad, stated to me that they ordered and paid in full for custom motorcycles never delivered. Some orders would be more than 2 years old.
Two weeks ago, I contacted Dar Holdsworth, asking if the allegations were true and his reply was the following:
“Cyril. This is not entirely true. I value our customers and am trying everything possible to take care of them. Yes, we are going through some challenges. However, we are trying to restructure to overcome them, so that we can take care of our customers. I am not at liberty to say much more than that at this time, but should have more for you soon. Unfortunately negative press & rumors make the restructuring more difficult, which in turn negatively affects our ability to take care of our customers. Things are not entirely as they seem. I will let you know more information as I have it in the very near future. Hope all is well for you. Best regards, Dar”
My reply was the following: “Dar. Sorry it’s happening to you. If you intend to complete work (if it’s possible I know you would prefer) or to refund (even with delays), I would strongly suggest that you make an official announcement to say so. Better prevent. If you wish to make it via my news website, let me know. All my best. Cyril.” Dar didn’t reply to me and yesterday again, I renewed my offer to let him express his intention.
