Iron Butt Association. Did You Know?

ironbutt1In the comments section, on different features I published, some of you have mentioned the Iron Butt riders. But I realize that most of you don’t know what is The Iron Butt Association (IBA). First, let me mention that the Iron Butt Association is a very loose knit group of about 50,000 members around the world without yearly dues or formal meetings. Just irregular email updates with long distance riding tips (To get on the list, e-mail your request to ibanews@ironbutt.com mentioning that you want to subscribe to Iron Butt News.)

Supporters are all endurance-motorcycling enthusiasts riding long distance, a few thousand miles at a time, simply for the challenge of doing it, some wanting to see a lot of the country in a shortest amount of time, and doing it safely…Their slogan is “The World Is Our Playground.” Continue reading ‘Iron Butt Association. Joke Of The week

cyril-huze-joke44A Cowboy sitting in a saloon one Saturday night, he recognized an elderly man standing at the bar, who in his day, had the reputation of being the fastest gun in the West. The young cowboy took a place next to the old-timer, bought him a drink and told him the story of his great ambition. ‘Do you think you could give me some tips?’ he asked.

The old man looked him up and down and said, ‘Well, for one thing, you’re wearing your gun too high. Tie the holster a little lower down on your leg.’ ‘Will that make me a better gunfighter?’ asked the young man. ‘Sure will,’ replied the old-timer.

The young man did as he was told, stood up, whipped out his 44 and shot the bow tie off the piano player. ‘That’s terrific!’ said the hot shot. ‘Got any more tips for me?’ ‘Yep,’ said the old man. ‘Cut a notch out of your holster where the hammer hits it. That’ll give you a smoother draw’ ‘Will that make me a better gunfighter?’ asked the younger man. ‘You bet it will,’ said the old-timer. Continue reading ‘Joke Of The week’

Sport-Windshield-for-RUSHMOREAt 10-inch tall the new Sport Windshield (P/N 57400213, $159.95) for 2014 Harley-Davidson Touring models is lower than Original Equipment to let you easily look over. The light-smoked shield is formed from hard-coated polycarbonate for strength and scratch resistance. It fits 2014 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide®, Street Glide® and Trike models. Parade
magic01
magic00The time of a long weekend, the Germany Ruedesheim Magic Show in the Rhine Valley looks a lot like our Laconia event. In this city, there are memories of Elvis Presley who was stationed not too far away in Frieberg and who shot several scenes of the “GI Blues movie in Ruedeshelm.” A parade, vendors, stunts, rock n’ roll, lots of beer and of course a bike show to which participated A+ custom builders, organized and photographed by friend of the industry Horst Roesler. Proud winners can see their names after the jump.

8 Hours To Turn An Ugly Harley FXR Into A Club Style Bike

A1 Cycles, an independent custom shop in West Palm Palm Beach challenged itself to be able to turn in 8 hours a really ugly (I saw it…) 1989 FXR into a Club style bike. The guys at the shop ride FXR’s and just wanted to prove themselves they could do it. To be truthful, it took an extra hour to complete the full assembly and electrical job due to a bottom fork tube hardened bolt that had to be drilled out. These cats had the time to lunch, except the boss Mike Beland who had to drill out the hardened bolt…8 hours of hard work summarized in 1′ 58″. Enjoy.

These 1.25” OD, center width 11.5” chrome or black (Fly By Wire available) Burly Bagger Bars are perfect for full fairing touring motorcycles. Slotted and drilled for easy internal wiring. Bonneville Salt Flats Getting New Salt

bonneville1bonnevillebisThe site where land-speed records have been set over the past 100 years received an estimated 2,000 tons of salt at the end of the access road. It is the first step to a much longer project to help preserve a national treasure.

There has been a significant loss of salt in the area since the ’40s. While millions of tons of salt brine have been pumped back in recent years, a supplemental dry salt program will focus on targeted areas of the race tracks. Continue reading ‘Bonneville Salt Flats Getting New Salt’

Harley-Davidson Reinventing Itself With The LiveWire Project.

Livewire1June 24 in New York, Harley-Davidson started its 30 cities tour to solicit your reactions to its environmentally friendly LiveWire electric concept motorcycle. Depending on the feedback, Harley said that its R&D will improve it with mass production on the horizon or simply trash it. Whatever you think of automotive electric technology, Harley-Davidson, like all other vehicle manufacturers, knows very well that electric cars and motorcycles are in your future, and consequently in theirs. The question is not if, but when the company will be able to offer a product you accept and demand enough to create a profitable mass market to address. For now most studies show that the e-motorcycles market in North America should grow by about 30% a year during the next decade.  A market disruption to be prepared to if you are a major motorcycle manufacturer… Nobody can deny that customers are increasingly open to the idea of electric cars and motorcycles. So, I am convinced that even if the LiveWire Project would be temporarily stalled or renamed, just the time necessary for improvements and integration of new technologies, it will never be abandoned. Harley is interested in the long-term potential of e-motorcycles, regardless of immediate demand. livewire3It’s at reinvention that America has always been the best country in the world. And I think it’s still true. No company can survive, last and remain successful without reinventing itself. With the LiveWire Project, Harley-Davidson is not the first manufacturer exploring the e-bike route. Contrary to others, Harley-Davidson doesn’t ask you if you want their e-bike by trying to sell you one. The company tries to find out which one you would buy in terms of design, performance, range and practicality (plug-in charging stations that can be Harley dealers? Your home or office when a charging standard will eventually be agreed on?) Continue reading ‘Harley-Davidson Reinventing Itself With The LiveWire Project.’
