Published by May 4th, 2010 in Builders and Editorial. This past weekend during Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting , CEO Warren Buffet, one of the most successful investors in the world (he is worth 47 billion and receives only a $100,000 salary from his company), said that the US economy is rebounding quickly and that the recovery is accelerating. The same way it takes 2 or 3 quarters to be sure we entered in a recession, it takes the same time or more to realize that we are out of one. The percentage of unemployed (always a lagging economic indicator) is probably going to remain relatively high during a couple of years, but it is worth listening to the so called “Oracle Of Omaha” when he tells you that things are overall improving at a very fast pace. At the same time I am informed that the used Harley-Davidson market is getting strong, much stronger than last year at the same time, and the warmer weather all over the country can’t be the only reason. Some Geek observed that many of you could not handle the stress of finding a bottle opener when you feel the urgent need to quench your thirst. And he imagined the perfect way to carry one disguised as a jewelry ring. You can slip the “Ring Thing” on the finger of your choice or on all of them if you are the usual private party bartender. Made of stainless steel. and comfortable to wear (remove before you wash your bike…), just hook bottle cap and lift wrist. Biker approved. At Think Geek with Sizing Info. (8 to 15)
Unorthodox final arrangements and unusual graves are common among bikers. David Morales Colón, a 22-year old Puerto Rican, was probably too young to make his own request before he was shot to death last week. But his family didn’t hesitate to ask the chosen funeral directors if it was possible to organize a wake showing David in a very lifelike position riding a Honda CBR600 (not his but one given by his uncle for this special occasion) dressed in casual attire and wearing sunglasses. And if you think it’s a hoax, you can get all the details (if you read Spanish), including a video, in the local Puerto Rico newspaper The Local Primera Newspaper.

Glad That You Asked. What Does CC Mean For A Motorcycle Engine?
Published by April 30th, 2010 in Editorial and Engines.CC or cubic centimeters refers to engine capacity. Specifically it refers to the amount of air/fuel mixture able to fit into the cylinders (where combustion occurs) at full expansion. 1 cc is equivalent to 1 gram of water aka 1 ml.
An example: 1340 cc engine means the cylinders with pistons at full expansion can hold a volume of 1340 ml of air/fuel mixture prior to the combustion stroke
Like most members of the industry, almost on a daily basis I receive emails offering me to have motorcycle parts prototyped and produced in China. Most of you who are not professionals think that these offers come directly from Chinese companies. Yes, for some. But a majority are sent by American or Canadian based companies. I am getting irritated and decided to publish one of these offers I received this morning in my email box. Americans unite!
“ARC United Corp. is a USA based company We have one mission – to bring the cost savings of Asian sourcing to the small and mid-sized manufacturer without the hassle and risk normally associated with international procurement. It’s no secret that the cost savings from Asian sourcing, primarily in China can be drastic. Cost savings of 50% to75% are possible in many cases. However, most small and mid-sized companies have no idea how to source in China and be assured of quality parts. Continue reading ‘Motorcycle Parts. Americans Unite!’

Even Our US Government Can Fake Green To The EPA
Published by April 27th, 2010 in Builders, Customs and Editorial. You know how hard it is for motorcycle engines, air cleaners and exhausts to be approved by the EPA (Environment Protection Agency). You heard about how many have been fined – manufacturers, shops, custom builders – for using/installing the wrong set of motorcycle parts. How hard do you think it is to get an Energy Star label on your eco-friendly washing machine? Not hard at all, says the Government Accountability Office. The federal agency recently conducted a stealth investigation that found it was pretty easy to get certified. The GAO created 4 fake companies and submitted 20 fake products to either the Department of Energy or the Environmental Protection Agency for approval. 15 of those bogus products got a green light.
