Saxon Motorcycles is currently moving its operation into new premises in the Phoenix area. They hope they can be up and running in December and make Europe their main target in the semi-custom production market. The company expects to launch 2 new models for 2010. The new owners are Mark Borodkin (CEO), Tim Gueltzow (Director of Sales & Marketing), Robert Martino (Chief Financial Officer) – Hollywood’s consummate anti-hero Dennis Hopper famous for his role in the seminal movie Easy Rider revealed that he learned to ride on a motor scooter and that he and fellow actor Steve McQueen had lost their driver’s licenses and were getting around Hollywood on Vespas before he directed and starred in the 1969 ground breaking movie. Monster Italian Design. American Powered With S&S X-Wedge Engine
Published by November 20th, 2009 in Builders, Customs and Editorial. It’s not every day that you see an Italian Custom Builder specializing in sport bikes and high tech Cafe Racers using as powerplant an American S&S X-Wedge engine (pronounce Ex-Wedge or Cross-Edge) and I love it! We are in Milan and you better off running a performance engine with emissions compliance if you don’t want your bike immediately confiscated by the Carabinieris (Italian police). This new model is called “Duu” (Milanese slang for “Two”), is supposed to be produced in limited edition for model 2011, and features the goodies we like to see in this type of bike like single sided swingarm, inverted fork, Brembo brakes, dragster style fuel tank in a very “show me” Italian design package. Price should be around 20,000 euros or the equivalent of US$30,000. The builder is a company called CRS Motorcycles and unfortunately their website is still in construction with no further information. To follow…

When you are making out your card list this year, please include the following: A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center, 6900 Georgia Avenue, NW Washington,D.C. 20307-5001. If you approve, please pass it on” Harlan Schillinger (Hamsters USA)
Performance Machine Open Belt Black Beauty
Published by November 20th, 2009 in Builders, Customs, Driveline and Editorial. The “Contrast Cut” look is very big in the industry and this PM Contour Belt Drive Primary is an awesome piece on any stock Harley or wild custom. In addition it features key features making it superior to some other belt drives. The motor plate and lock up clutch are designed to tolerate the power of big motors. At the same time the clutch action at the lever is eased by use of lower rate springs (how many of you complain of a painful/hard clutch?), while the inertia activated lock up feature keeps things from slipping when you throttle hard. It utilizes a narrow belt for lightweight, better cornering clearance and does not interfere with access to forward controls. Will fit all 1991 through 2009 HD Softails, Dynas and most custom bikes. Does not fit FLH or FXR models. Dyna models must use forward controls or the integrated PM mid mounts. Also sold in polish or chrome. Performance Machine.
Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson Trying Again This Weekend To Liquidate All Its Used Bikes And More…
Published by November 19th, 2009 in Builders and Editorial. After what sounds to me as a fiasco online auction 2 weeks ago, Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson, the largest Harley Dealer in the world, is at it again starting tomorrow November 20 until Sunday 22 trying to liquidate over $2 million of pre-owned bikes. And not only motorcycles, but also clothing, parts, accessories & chrome sold at 25% to 80% discount! Even a stock of Buell parts at slashed prices. As an observer, how does it sound to you? Do you have the same feeling than me? Like most Harley Dealers, Rossmeyer’s dealerships are overwhelmed with repo bikes (coming back to the dealer from the generation of “6-year loan, no credit check, everybody approved”) and trades taken in to try to reach new 2009 and 2010 bike sales objectives. Custom Chrome La Muerte Negra. A Fast, Black And Furious Harley-Davidson Dyna
Published by November 19th, 2009 in Builders, Customs and Editorial.Showcasing the custom parts that you sell on a custom bike is efficient marketing strategy if the bike is extremely cool. Independent Custom Builders do it very well. Few large part distributors do as well, except when one of their in-house collaborators is also a talented builder. Rich Fulk, Custom Chrome’s Product Line Manager, knows quite a few things about mixing and matching the custom parts that he sells to make a factory bike look like a true custom. And since he also got the design and fabrication/assembly abilities he built this very “fast, black and furious” 2009 Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide featuring the “Custom Chrome New Dark products”. For the fast and furious parts of the equation ‘La Muerta Negra’ was modified with an S&S 106″ kit, some Zippers Cams and Thundermax ECM. For the dark part, Rich used the complete line of the ‘King Knurl’ accessories from Revolution and made this FXD-I rolls on RevTech® Midnight Series. Looks to me like the Milwaukee factory should sell it! Inspired and ready to do your own? All these parts and more are available in the CCI Catalog Update that you can see by jumping to Custom Chrome.
Aluminum Finned Oil tank For sale. The Patent.
Published by November 19th, 2009 in Chassis, Customs and Editorial.
“Cyril. You don’t know me, I talked to you several times at shows but never really introduced my self. I am the guy who was building the finned aluminum oil bags for Softail bikes. I would like to sell the patents and patterns and was hoping you could direct me in the right direction to get exposure on this product.
Attached is a pic of it. Thanks” Greg Shickle gregs@tech-alloy.com
Netherlands Big Twin Bike Show Winner
Published by November 19th, 2009 in Builders, Customs, Editorial and Events.Just a quick post about this new custom bike elected Best Of Show by other show competitors during last weekend Netherlands Big Twin And Zodiac Expo. Worth introducing it to you because its Builder also won a trip to the 2010 Sturgis AMD World Championship Of Bike Building. Before you get a chance to detail this machine in magazines then up-close in South Dakota, just notice that this very radical lowrider uses an engine whose heads are integrated inside the gas tank (will fuel be pulverized by heat? Hmmm. Or maybe the gas reservoir is hidden somewhere else?). Exhaust is quite interesting, too. Built in Belgium by a guy named Kris and I don’t know more…

Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson Relying More And More On Internet With Monthly Auctions
Published by November 18th, 2009 in Builders, Editorial and Events. We all know that more brick & mortar businesses can advantageously replace part of their showroom square feet by a bigger and better internet presence. If clients don’t walk in, go to them where they are, wherever they are. Logically, Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson, overwhelmed by the number of used bikes they took in trade- in and repos on unpaid loans (at any time they state that they have 500 used bikes in stock), is moving its sales force front of the computer screen. Mike Watts, internet sales manager at Rossmeyer’s state that the company will host 24-hour live vide auction on a monthly basis (the 1st one happened 2 weeks ago). Who Is Trying To Burn Down The Famous Boot Hill Saloon?
Published by November 17th, 2009 in Editorial and Events. The first fire at the Boot Hill North (not the one on Daytona Main Street but the one located on North U.S. Highway 1 in Ormond Beach, FL) destroyed half the bar last Thursday night. Crews of firefighters from Ormond Beach and Volusia County were dispatched to the motorcycle bar and put the fire out and ruled it arson. The bar is open only during special Daytona biker events . Recently the building was put for sale for $1.65 million. Last Saturday night for the second time in two days, the Boot Hill Saloon caught fire. Upon firefighters arrival 10-foot flames were visible coming from the bar’s roof. At 9pm the fire was extinguished and this time, a person left a gas can behind and remnants of an accelerant were found at the scene. An off duty Volusia County deputy saw someone leaving the property just before firefighters were called, then crossed U.S. 1 to leave in a white car parked across the street. Evidence was sent to the Arson Bureau Lab in Tallahassee.
One More Time, Rambler By Cook Custom Choppers.
Published by November 17th, 2009 in Builders, Customs and Editorial.I already featured Dave Cook’s AMD World Championship winning bike “Rambler”. But why not one more time when I get new pictures? these ones shot by friend of the industry Colleen Swartz. I remind you that this custom bike is powered by what Dave mysteriously refers to as a “550 International” engine, a shorthand description of a on-of-a-kind collection of various metric and Dave Cook one-off fabricated components. The engine is based on a stock Honda CB550 transverse 4-cylinder with radically reworked cases to allow the engine to be used longitudinally instead of transversely. In addition to reworking the cases themselves, an auxiliary oil tank and oil regulator was fabricated. The timing assembly is a one-off as is the bell housing and clutch assembly. The transmission housing is an old 3-speed BMW gear case which Dave managed to fit with a BMW R75 four-speed gear set. The shaft drive is adapted from a Yamaha Virago. Cook Custom Choppers .

3 years that I tell you that the European market may be the new Eldorado for many US bike and part manufacturers. At the condition that you get all TUV approvals… Not only because Europe is in a much better economic shape but also because beause the US dollar lost 50% of its value against the euro. Mods And Rockers. Are We Seeing A Revival Of Both Subcultures?
Published by November 16th, 2009 in Customs, Editorial and Events.Shades of the ’60s are everywhere in our motorcycle industry. From Scooters making a huge come back in big cities to Old British Iron being renovated or used as the basis of new customs, from Scooter Clubs to Cafe Racers meetings, it looks like the Mods and Rockers subcultures may be back. Not only in their birthplace of England but all over Europe and somewhat in the US. In the mid-sixties you had to be a Mod or a Rocker to be anything. For those who were one or the other (it means that like me you are baby boomer…) and for those who are now inheriting or imitating their lifestyle, below is a short history of these important 2-wheeler movements. Roland Sands Design Sport V-TWin
Published by November 16th, 2009 in Builders, Customs and Editorial. Not new, but worth publishing because this style of motorcycle is built more and more in US custom shops. And of course, Roland Sands having built a few of these custom V-twin sport bikes, he carries some responsibility for such interest. This one uses a hand built frame (including a one-off swingarm working via an under seat mono shock) and is powered by a Road Star 110″ engine using Patrick Racing heads/cylinders ad breathing via a Mikuni carburetor. For a pure sport look the front end comes from Ohlins and Roland Sands built a high flying rear fender and a custom exhaust system following the same lines. No surprisingly Roland chose his wheels next door at Performance Machine, the Judge model in contrast cut, 21 x 3.5″ in front and 18 x 8.5″ in rear both dressed with Dunlop Elite 3 tires (respectively 120/70 and 240/40). Trust me. It’s difficult to conceive a good tee-shirt. I like this one because 1- it’s hand drawn, not a computer manipulated image downloaded from Photoshop. 2- it’s a new way to show the American flag (yes, you see correctly, different drinking glasses replace the 50 stars and there is no reason anyone get offended. Ok? And no, I don’t drink)) 3- For those who care or who are allergic to the 50% polyester contained in most tee-shirt fabrics, this one is screen printed on recycled organic and vintage material. It’s a little bit expensive at $30 (shipping included) because like for custom bikes…you have to pay the artist. Christmas gift? Available in size: XXS, XS, Small, Medium, Large, XL, XXL. Order online at J. Newbury Tee-Shirts.
