From Ace Cafe To Madras Cafe

REContinentalGT1REContinentalGT2REContinentalGT3Royal Enfield, a cult brand in India, has built its reputation around adventure riding and eating up miles on the rough and difficult roads of the Himalaya or of the Rajasthan . During the last 3 years, the subsidiary of Eicher Motors Limited could have sold many more bikes around the world if production had followed. At one time, backlog reached 3 to 6 months. Now with a new 50-acre production facility, in 2014 Royal Enfield expects to sell at least 250,000 of its models. Because of more efficient production (and also probably anticipating the up-coming competition of the Harley Street), the company has decided to slash the price of all its 6 models that will be sold in the US under MSRP $6000 (ranging from $4999 to $5999) New flagship model is the new 535 cc Continental GT positioned as the lightest and fastest Café Racer in its category. Joke Of The Week

cyril-huze-joke44An  80-year-old man was requested by his Doctor for a  sperm count as part of his physical exam. The  doctor gave the man a jar and said “‘Take this jar home  and bring back a semen sample tomorrow.”

The next day the 80-year-old man  reappeared at the  doctor’s office and gave him the jar, which was as  clean and empty as on the previous day.

The doctor asked what happened and the  man explained,  ‘Well, doc, it’s like this — first I tried with my right  hand, but nothing.  Then I triedwith my left  hand, but still nothing.  ‘Then I asked my wife for help. she tried with her right  hand, then with her left, still nothing. She tried  with her mouth, first with the teeth in, then with her  teeth out, still nothing. We even called up Arleen, the  lady next door and she tried  too, first with both hands, then an armpit, and  she even tried squeezin’ it between her knees,  but still nothing…..’

The doctor was  shocked!’ You  asked  your neighbor?’ The  old man replied, ‘Yep, none of us could get the jar open.’

S&S Cycle 1250cc Conversion Kit To Turn A Harley Sportster Into A Smoking Sporty

1250cc

The Harley Sportster being so popular again, you could imagine that S&S Cycle would not take long would to release a conversion kit to add the adjective “smoking” to the Sporty name.

1250 cc is more than double the horsepower of a factory 883 Sportster! The kit is the largest big bore kit S&S offers for 1986-’14 Harley-Davidson® Sportster® models that can be bolted directly into stock crankcases. It includes 3-9/16” bore pistons, cylinders, and gaskets.

Needless to say the new S&S 1250cc conversion kit will appeal to the rider who wants to get the most from his or her bike, so S&S also recommends the S&S 600 cams and S&S CNC ported heads  to complete the package. Make the most of that displacement!

1250ccterThe Dynojet® 250i chassis dynamometer shows what a potent package the S&S® 1250cc kit for Harley-Davidson® Sportster® models can be. This chart compares a stock 2009 883cc engine before and after the 1250cc kit was installed. Over twice the horsepower! In addition to the 1250cc kit with 5.5cc pop-up dome forged pistons, the test bike was equipped S&S slip-on mufflers, stock EFI throttle body with an S&S tuned induction system, S&S 600 cams, and stock cylinder heads CNC ported by S&S. (Note: Not recommended for engines with stock 883 heads, but works great with stock 1200 heads and 883 or 1200 heads CNC ported by S&S) Continue reading ‘S&S Cycle 1250cc Conversion Kit To Turn A Harley Sportster Into A Smoking Sporty’

Brass Balls Cycles “Challenge Coin” Fuel Cap

brassballs1brassballs2brassballs3brassballs4Dar Holdsworth of Brass Balls Cycles tells me that after many years of only building bikes, he has decided to offer a limited edition line of parts. His first new part is a billet aluminum fuel cap that accepts “Challenge Coins” that he has decided to bring to market via Crowdhoster, a crowd funding website. As most among you already now, many members of the military have a “challenge coin” that is very special to them. These challenge coins are normally presented by unit commanders in recognition of special achievement by a member of the unit. They are also exchanged in recognition of visits to an organization.

Holdsworth got the idea to offer a gas cap allowing to proudly display a challenge coin flush mounted in the cap on their bike. The gas cap is machined from  6061 billet aluminum, fitted with a Viton o-ring which is impervious to modern fuels with ethanol, offered in polished, brushed and black anodize and brushed and clear anodize and made in the USA (Oklahoma) The cap fits late model Harley-Davidson gas tanks. New Lotus C-01 Motorcycle Is Ready To Roar

LotusC01-5LotusC01-1LotusC01-13Following two years of careful planning and intense development, the prototype of the world’s first motorcycle to bear the legendary Lotus marque is now road registered and ready for action. But first let me mention that the Lotus C-01 motorcycle is not designed, engineered or produced by Group Lotus plc but is the result of a collaboration between motorsport veterans under the leadership of Kodewa based in Germany, lead by Dr Colin Kolles. The development on the C-01 was carried out with the support of Holzer Group (co-owners of Kalex) and Daniel Simon (Former Volkswagen senior designer.) Drawing on their wealth of motorsport experience, the team of engineers has designed a unique high performance super bike.

The C-01 combines ample power via a 200 hp V-twin engine with a distinctive body designed by Daniel Simon integrating carbon fiber, titanium and aerospace quality steel. The C-01 will be available in a range of liveries some of which pay homage to Lotus’ sporting pedigree. A customization service is also available, limited only by the imagination of the client. With an exclusive production run of just 100 units Will Lotus fans and collectors rush to secure one?

LotusC01-15LotusC01-14The original idea to create the C-01 came from Kodewa’s Dr Colin Kolles. Speaking about the project he said: “We set out to create a bike that isn’t just great to ride but also represents a piece of art in motion. Over the years I have seen my fair share of style over substance, what this bike brings to the market is a unique combination of both: state of the art technology with a truly jaw-dropping aesthetic.”

LotusC01-7Commenting on the C-01 Güther Holzer, CEO of Holzer Group said: “I was one of the first people to ride it and I have to say I was very impressed. Together we have found that delicate balance between raw, aggressive power and breath-taking  handling.  The  team  has  created  something very special, it  looks incredible, it sounds fantastic but above all, the ride is sensational. I’m very happy.” Continue reading ‘New Lotus C-01 Motorcycle Is Ready To Roar’

The “Triple Speed” Concept Bike By Bryan Fuller

triplespeed1In the works at Bryan Fuller’s Hot Rods shop, this three-wheeler uniquely built to handle and lean like a traditional two-wheel sport bike thanks to TreMoto’s patented technology. When Bryan Fuller, owner of first saw TreMoto’s Monstrosity 620 with leaning vehicle suspension he said he immediately thought, “Wow, that’s how a trike should be made.” “The concept takes the perception of a trike to new levels – more nimble and fun to ride than your traditional trike”, says Fuller.

triplespeed2triplespeed3

TreMoto, LLC is a company in Wisconsin devoted to pushing the limits of engineering with innovative ideas like leaning suspension technology. The TreMoto concept was created by Eddie Smith and Rob McIver. The many features of the TreMoto suspension system include the 45 degrees of cornering lean angle, fully adjustable independent suspension, and lean brake. The advantages of the leaning reverse trike are both safety and performance oriented. The leaning suspension gives it the cornering speeds of a motorcycle, with the increased stability, traction, and braking that a third wheel provides. The lean brake can be engaged in order to lock the lean of the trike, to be used to avoid high-side accidents and putting your feet down at stops. The vehicle’s capabilities both on and off road are said to be amazing, doing things you’d never expect out of a 2 wheeler or traditional 3 wheeler. Consumer Reports Reliability Survey. Japanese Motorcycles Score Best. BMW Scores Worst. Harley Riders Don’t Care Too Much…

repair5Reliability is not always the primary criteria in choosing a motorcycle brand and model, but it is always a consideration.

US advocacy magazine “Consumer Reports” made a reliability study of 4680 motorcycles owned by its subscribers (Triumph & Suzuki were not included in the results due to insufficient data.)

Japanese motorcycles are considered the most reliable (1- Yamaha, 2- Kawasaki, 3-Honda) with an average of only 10% of having a problem over a 4-year period. On the same criteria, 25% of Harley-Davidson motorcycles had a problem and surprisingly 33% of the “rugged for adventure” BMW motorcycles had a problem. Essential Tire Maintenance Tips from Harley-Davidson Motor Company Experts

3Check-Tire-Pressure-with-an-Accurate-GaugeBelow is the low down on low pressure and tired tires.

A patch of tire rubber no larger than a credit card is what connects a motorcycle to the road, and maintaining those tires is critical to motorcycle performance and to the safety of your ride. The motorcycle tire experts at Harley-Davidson have put together the following tire-care tips for all riders.

1H-D-Tread-Depth-Indicator1. Dial In Tire Pressure:

A number of factors can influence the rate of motorcycle tire wear. One of the most critical is also frequently overlooked by riders: maintaining proper tire inflation pressure. “Checking tire pressure is one of the most important tire-maintenance functions a rider can perform,” says Steve Bindl, H-D Product Portfolio Manager. “Properly inflated tires wear longer, and correct pressure promotes better braking, better fuel economy, maximizes traction, and reduces the risk of tire damage or failure.”

Tire pressure should be checked before every ride as a part of the pre-riding checklist in the motorcycle owner’s manual. Pressure should be checked when the tires are cold (before riding), and adjusted to the pressure listed in the motorcycle owner’s manual or on the tire information sticker located on the motorcycle. Use a high-quality gauge intended for motorcycle use when checking your tires. The Harley-Davidson Digital Tire Pressure Gauge provides accurate pressure readings in 0.50 psi increments up to 60 psi, and features a 12-inch braided line and 90 degree angle chuck for easy access to valve stems.

SERVICE TIP: Pressure gauges can become inaccurate over time due to wear and tear and should be replaced or checked against a gauge with known accuracy. Continue reading ‘Essential Tire Maintenance Tips from Harley-Davidson Motor Company Experts’

Which State Has The Highest Percentage Of Motorcycle Ownership? Surprise…

rank4Counting the total number of motorcycle registrations in the US is only one way to evaluate ownership (in 2011, DOT stated a total of 8,410,255 registered motorcycles, or about 1 motorcycle for 36 habitants) Ranking each state for its specific number of registrations is also useful for manufacturers and vendors. But if you correlate the state number of registrations to the population of said state, results are even more useful… and are quite surprising.

rank5Instead of looking at the number of motorcycles in each 50 states, let’s look at the number of people per motorcycle. The lowest the number, highest is the density of motorcycles in each state.

Ranked number 1 is South Dakota with 12 people for 1 motorcycle (beating the national average by 66%), although the state represents only 0.82% of the US motorcycle registrations. Ranked number 2 is New Hampshire with 17 people for 1 motorcycle (beating the national average by 50%) although representing only 0.94% of all motorcycles in America). Ranked number 3 is Iowa with with 18 people for every motorcycle registered (beating the national average by 55%) although representing only 2.1% of all motorcycles in America. Complete ranking of all US 50 states after the jump. Continue reading ‘Which State Has The Highest Percentage Of Motorcycle Ownership? Surprise…’
